Pros: Good location Fast service Fresh sides and lots of options Decent selection of beverages Cons: You can choose either fatty or lean brisket Meats need sauce since they are kind of bland on their own Indoor seats don't have much space between them Pro tip: The corn pudding is yummy Buy 2 sides and get a buck off

WOW I don't believe I have anything to complain about! Yes they get a 5 star, Thursday eve tables available, the restaurant has a friendly atmosphere with a typical barbecue /pub ambiance. Good for a casual date night or a girls/guys night out. I waited to order less than 5 minutes. Cheerfully greeted, helpful staff (I had reviewed the menu in the parking lot but it had been a long day). Patiently waiting while I choose my order. Ordered a brisket sandwich, chicken wings and fries with cheese and bacon. Now for the kicker, I dislike brisket (sorry Texas) to the point of NEVER ordering it, BUT on the recommendation of a friend I gave it a shot. Here is the result, I don't like smoked brisket but the brisket sandwich was fabulous, I ate 1/2 the sandwich without sauce, no added salt or pepper basically in bbq language NAKED. awesome flavor, perfect amount of char, moist and tasty I might start ordering brisket. Now the chicken wings were small in size but not in flavor. Perfectly smoked still moist and in my opinion better without any sauce just a little salt and pepper. On to the fries, now my order was to go, and that's why I'm leaving this for last. The flavor was spot on! But the fries were not cooked long enough not for the moisture in the nacho cheese to destroy the texture. Again I say the flavor was great and if ordering for a table order the fries are good, I just wouldn't order them to go again.

This is the driest meat I've ever been served at a restaurant. I filled up on bread and sides because the meat was not good at all. The service was good and quick. There were no people here at all and it's the 4th of July weekend.

I ordered online & picked up. Got a brisket sandwich, fries, & peach cobbler. With a sweet tea. The cobbler was great The tea was sweet. Good sweet. I'm from the south, was in Ohio on business, this is good sweet tea. The brisket was dry, no flavor. Seriously couldn't eat it with bread because it couldn't handle anything else dry on it. The sauce was okay but it only helped by wetting the brisket. (it took me 4 minutes to get back to my hotel)

I was in town today and came across this place and thought I'd give it a try. The website looked good, Facebook looked good, and it got "ok" Google reviews, so I said, "Why not?" Upon exiting my vehicle, the sweet smell of smoke graced my nose and made my hunger intensify. Having had only eaten a gas station taquito on my 5-hour ride into Newark, to say I was anxious to eat would have been an understatement. As we entered the building, we found it fairly busy for a Saturday, but the line moved rather quickly. Scanning over the menu and being a first timer here, I felt the City Sampler would give me the best opportunity to sample the greatest number of options. Before placing my order, I asked the cashier if the brisket was served chopped or sliced, and she replied, "Well, it's sliced, but sometimes it just falls apart." That sold the deal! The City Sampler it was my choice. I figured at $25, I'd have some to take home to the wifey who loves BBQ, too. This sampler plate comes with brisket, pulled pork, smoked sausage, smoked turkey, and two sides. As i was placing my order, the cashier told me they were out of smoked turkey and asked me if I minded to sub it for pulled chicken or a leg/thigh quarter. I chose the quarter, as the other two in my party chose the pulled, and we could share. For sides, they had mac and cheese, slaw, green beans, corn pudding, collard greens, fries, potato salad, a side salad, and hush puppies (but they were marked as sold out.) I choose the mac & and cheese, corn pudding, & ordered a 3rd side of the collard greens. Walking past the beverage station, an old black toolbox caught my eye. Seeing something I'd seen once before at Misson BBQ, they had repurposed a toolbox as a condiment container holding salt, pepper, ketchup packets, moist towelets, etc. I thought it was just a neat touch. The sauce stand held their four different sauces, Swine wine, a vinegar based sauce for pork, Brush Fire BBQ , spicy sauce, Sweet City, and their Original BBQ. These sauces were all excellent, but I was especially fond of the Swine Wine on the pork and the Brush Fire on the chicken. I never sauce brisket, I feel it should stand alone. After about 5 minutes or so, my name was called, and it was time to sample all the fantastic food. The brisket had an excellent sticky bark that was seasoned perfectly. My (single) slice came from the middle of the brisket, so it had the perfect fat to meat ratio. Everything sounds great up to here, right.. so what's the catch. It was sliced wrong! It was sliced with the grain, not against the grain. What does this mean, you ask? It means instead of pull-apart slices of succulent brisket, you get long stringy pieces of beef so tough you can barely bite through. To say i was disappointed wouldn't even scratch the surface. Not to mention, I only received one slice! The pulled pork portion size was also very small. I would estimate less than a 1/8 Ib. It was "ok" but lacked natural flavor and moisture. This was easily restored with the application of their Swine Wine. The pulled chicken portion was better, probably close to 1/4lb. Unfortunately, it was very lack-luster. It was extremely under-seasoned, dry chicken breast meat that still had large, unpulled chunks in it. I tried to doctor it up by trying it with all the sauces, but nothing I did helped. The sausage resembled a hot dog with an italian sausage texture. The casing was super tough and could not be bitten through. There was no "snap" or even breaking it. I had to peel the casing off just to eat it. The taste and texture of the inside were good, but the casing made it terrible. The mac and cheese was really creamy and cheesy made with cavatappi noodles, but it lacked seasoning. Maybe some salt, pepper, a little ground mustard..something. It just tasted bland. The corn pudding was dry and old, like it had been in the warmer too long. It had the texture of dry crumbled cornbread mixed with overcooked canned corn that was left on the stove top long. Also very bland. Moving to the collards. I'm not sure what happened here. Dry, flavorless, and full of inedible stems. Nothing I did (salt, pepper, vinegar, hot sauce) made them taste to the point I could eat them. I'm sorry, but I just couldn't fix them. However, I was able to wash it all down with a really good glass of sweet tea. Tea like your MeeMaw made. Sweet, but not syrupy sweet; clear, not cloudy, it was just a really good glass of tea. Being in Ohio, I was even more impressed, as this was more like a Carolinas or Tennessee type tea. All in all, I left feeling let down. It's wasn't a bad meal, but not one I'd go out of my way to eat again. Maybe it was someone new on the carving board. Maybe they had a call in, and the usual pitmaster wasn't there, or maybe i just caught them on an off day.

My friend group planned our visit and drove a long distance to dine here. Unfortunately we had to wait an hour and a half for a table. The restaurant did not have an adequate waiting space so we had to stand outside in the cool evening temperatures with our group including pregnant and disabled women. I certainly hope the restaurant will consider reservation options; this would allow us to visit much more frequently! Perhaps reservations could require a credit card hold and a late fee - just anything that keeps groups from having to wait so long would be wonderful! The Pub on Broadway has been a staple since 2005, with good reason. The bar is a work of art, with warm hardwood features and a great selection of options. The menu is diverse, including Brussels sprouts topped with hot honey ($5), a bourbon-bacon burger made with sauteed mushrooms & onions, lettuce, sliced tomatoes, house-made bourbon sauce, and provolone, $19), a Pub-made mac & cheese entrée (house-made five cheese blend sauce, cavatappi pasta, topped with shredded cheddar-jack, served with toasted focaccia bread, $17), a full pizza menu, and a kids' menu with hot dogs, grilled cheese, buttered noodles, and chicken tenders ($7-8). I was moderately hungry, so I ordered a cup of chili ($7) and a side of battered fries ($5), along with a cider and bourbon boilermaker. Service was excellent, there was no waiting for a table around noon, and both selections came out piping hot. The chili was true comfort food, and the sandwich was sized so that I could have the second half the following day. The seating is spacious, sound level permits a conversation at normal levels, and the restroom was well-maintained and clean. It's good to know that the community supports this long-time favorite.
