The cajun fish fry was also very good. The baked beans were on point. Second, the mediocre: The chicken and the brisket were very dry, but flavorful. The coleslaw had the strangest flavor; my wife liked it, I just thought it was okay. It was sort of this weird combination of apple cider vinegar and barbeque sauce. It was very different from the normal, mayo-based coleslaw I'm used to. The wedge fries are really good, but nothing special. They'd benefit from an interesting spice combo or dry rub or something. Third, the less-than-mediocre: Only two choices for BBQ sauces. One tasted like slightly spicy ketchup and the other was a little hotter. Neither is winning any sauce awards. Still, this place is kind of iconic now, isn't it? Been around a long time. The decor is kitschy and fun. The service is friendly and helpful. I don't have major complaints. I'll be back.

The staff were nice however and walked us through the menu. We ended up ordering a 1/3 rack of baby back ribs with fries and a salad as well as a sliced beef sandwich with mac and cheese and corn chowder soup. My favorite thing was the corn chowder soup, it was a great creamy soup. The Mac and cheese was not good at all unfortunately and fries felt super plain. The meats were decent but relatively dry, the beef especially. The ribs were good and had a nice bbq sauce on them but not super special. The interior was really cool inside but we almost wished there had been a tv to watch. We probably won't be back but it was cool to check out once

I was mildly concerned since we had walked by it several times in the proceeding weeks and there was never anyone there. I hope that changes. We arrived around 6:00 pm. There were only diners at two other tables. While eating we did see a handful of other patrons come in and get their food to go. This is counter service although one of the servers did check on us while we were eating and helped clear out plates. I don't know if that is typical. I suspected it was more because they were not busy at all. They were friendly and offered suggestions on the various dishes. The space including the restrooms was clean. There was a tiny stage that looked like it could accommodate a musician. We sat at a long table which might have been tight if the table behind us was populated. What really stood out, was the food. Particularly the brisket. Amongst our group we had the carved brisket platter, the pulled pork platter, the pulled pork sandwich combo, cornbread, coleslaw, mac n' cheese, and wagon rolls. Wagon rolls are eggrolls stuffed with brisket and cheddar. I loved these and would definitely get them again. Portions were decent; brisket was eight ounces. The pork was tender, juicy, and delicious. The brisket was the star and several of us thought it was the best brisket we had ever had. The coleslaw was broccoli based, with a light mayo. Mine did taste like it had just come out of the freezer and was a bit icy, but I really enjoyed the flavor. The cornbread was delicious and our friends enjoyed the mac n' cheese. I'm still concerned that this place might not make it as it just does not seem busy on Friday nights, but I hope it does. I thought it was tasty and worth visiting again.

Overall tasty and comparable to a Culver's double. My wife was a big fan of the pizza. I tried a bit and can concur. It was the better of the two. We were sat and greeted by a wonderful server. She was incredibly friendly and welcoming! She answered all of my questions and steered me towards the best meal choices which was so helpful! I ordered the stuffed grilled cheese. The bread was delicious, but I wanted more from the veggies. I think they could be cooked for longer to make the sandwich texture more cohesive. I also think a bit more sauce was needed as the cheese didn't have as much flavor as I wanted. However, our server did say I should add bacon and I neglected to - so maybe that's on me. The friend ordered the BBQ Ribs which were topped with the best bbq sauce I've ever had. The meat was tender and incredibly delicious! The mashed potatoes were amazing, as was the seasonal vegetable (zucchini). We finished with one of their seasonal desserts, an apple custard streusel with whipped cream. It was the best thing we had all night! The apples were a perfect texture, the whip cream was airy and had the right amount of sweetness and vanilla flavor. But the streusel topping was the best part! It was so salty and complimented the other flavors so well. I will definitely be back but probably order their chicken house boat sandwich or get one of their burgers next time!

It was pretty busy at lunch time on a weekend, but luckily we were able to snag seats at the bar. The staff were very friendly and attentive, kindly offering recommendations. I loved that the menu offered both elevated takes on classic dishes in addition to a rotating seasonal menu. Eventually, we decided on the kimchi reuben and the Vindicator, which was essentially a turkey club. There was a great selection of sides to choose from as well, so we went with the wasabi green beans and seasonal lemon zucchini pasta salad. The turkey club was served on sourdough from an amazing artisan bakery down the street, and was absolutely stacked with delicious, high quality ingredients. A large slab of melted cheddar paired perfectly with a smoky chipotle aioli, which almost tasted like bacon. The reuben was also super unique- all of the flavors came together very well, and I loved the contrast of having refreshing kimchi to cut through the decadent Swiss and pastrami. The pasta salad was dangerously addictive and had the creamiest lemon Parmesan dressing. I thought the green beans were crunchy and well cooked, but didn't really taste any wasabi. We left full with leftovers, and felt that the value was great given the quality and quantity of the dishes. I would absolutely be back given the chance, and highly recommend paying a visit!

I ordered a LARGE Original Cheesesteak loaded with fried onions, mushrooms, hot + sweet peppers, cheese whiz, mayo, lettuce, and tomato--and made it a meal with a Mountain Dew + fries. Let's get into it Cheesesteak: It was... okay. Not bad, but nothing I'm rushing back for. Fries: Supposed to be Cajun fries but they weren't giving Cajun at all and the blue cheese cream sauce wasn't in my bag (which sucks because I was READY for that). The ambiance was cute. What I WILL say: everything was made fresh to order and the service was AMAZING--like top tier. Overall... I wanted to love it, but Madison definitely has some stronger cheesesteak options

Hoagies and Cheesesteaks are a way of life in Philly and it must be done right! The staff at The Original Steaks and Hoagies were very helpful, welcoming, with prompt service. However, the food itself majorly missed the mark and disappointing. I am hoping they can improve! I was hoping the could bring the magic of Philadelphia to Madison! I tried their large WHIZZY MONSTER cheesesteak sandwich with Hot capicola, fried onions, sweet peppers, Whiz, chopped topped with whizzy potato tots and my husband had their original Philly Cheesesteak with mushrooms. My husband liked his Philly cheesesteak but said it could have been better. I was very disappointed in my WHIZZY MONSTER cheesesteak because it didn't have a-lot of meat in it and the meat was not seasoned with very bland taste and very little cheese whiz. When I went to Philadelphia, they love to fill their Philly cheesesteaks with a good amount of meat with absolutely no skimping on the meat, the meat was seasoned super well with salt/pepper, while also having great flavor from the peppers and onions. The Original Steaks and Hoagies missed the mark for me because they need to season their meat better, add more meat to their sandwiches without having to pay extra or double the meat, and try the food before serving to guests. The food was very bland. I am genuinely hoping the Original Steaks and Hoagies can improve the flavor of their sandwiches!

We also got the fried okra & the banana pudding for dessert. My chicken wings were top tier, & I have high standards when it comes to my wings, haha. When looking for good wings I love a dry rub & these had that w a unique flavor & were seasoned really well. At times I'd get a little hit of spice but overall savory & not spicy. It'd be awesome if it was an option to make them hotter for those of us that like that but again, they're delicious as is. They have a perfect crisp, the meat was cooked perfectly & they're good size wings & meaty, not full of cartilage or fat which I hate. The meat came easily off the bone too. My husband begged for some & we both will be going back for wings for sure. The fries it came with were great too. Nice & crisp on the outside, soft on the inside & seasoned well. The fried okra was good & I liked that they weren't too heavily breaded so u could taste the okra. My husband loved the gyro burger & he normally can finish his meal but it was so big he got two meals out of it. It's impossible to bite so eating some meat first is key. Lastly, the banana pudding was great & a large portion so again, we had leftovers of that too. I do recommend ordering pickup as it's a smaller place with a few tables & takes a while to cook certain menu items but again, was cooked perfectly & was hot & fresh.
