What a surprise! I walked into City Bagel on a whim and am glad I did! For 8,90€, I got a bagel sandwich, a side, a drink, and a dessert to go. That's a pretty good deal around here.
For the bagel, I selected the Times Square sandwich on "touts saveurs" (I finally know how to say "everything bagel" in French!), which came with grilled aubergine, fresh tomato, fresh lettuce, "cheddar" cheese (the kind we call "American" back home), and a little cole slaw. It was surprisingly filling - I think the aubergine really gave it a nice flavor and a good consistency.
For the side, I picked the cole slaw, (your options are either that or chips,) and it was exactly how I remember cheap mayonnaise-based cole slaw from the states. I'm pretty sure the only ingredients are mayonnaise, cabbage, carrots, and vinegar. If I were making it at home, I would have added some fresh black pepper but we can't always get everything we want. I devoured the whole cup-full.
As for dessert, I couldn't say no to a big chocolate chip cookie they had on display. This was the most perfect part: it was undercooked and chilled so it tasted just like chocolate chip cookie dough. Heaven! If you like your cookies cooked through though, maybe go with a doughnut or some cake.
Overall: Yum! Maybe I'll try the other vegetarian bagel sandwich next time. (That's right: they have TWO!) ;)
Side note: I still have yet to find the perfect bagel in Lyon. The search continues though. read more
