Initially, they had excellent customer service and were very responsive and reliable. During the last 6 years, however, their customer service has declined significantly. If you call, you get a different person on the phone and a different person emailing you with information. Their response time is weeks, if you receive a response at all. I recently had to call five times over three weeks to get an answer to a simple question about ending coverage due to an out of state move. They cancelled my renters policy the correct day but removed the information about the policy from the app and never notified me about any of it. If I were staying in the area, I would switch agents and likely insurance companies.

The couple of times I've had to reach out to this branch have been met with annoyance that I've contacted them. Due to life events, I had to call to cancel my auto insurance policy and once it was no longer in their benefit, I was talked down to and was hung up on mid-sentence. After the request to cancel, I asked to receive a copy in writing and the person I was speaking to said that he was busy, had multiple people in line, and that he would get to it eventually. I attempted to then state that I recognize that canceling is not the highest priority, but also thank him for his time, he hung up on me. I had been with State Farm for 20+ years, and I would have potentially moved back to them after the life events settled, but I would not be coming back to this agent with his current team.

I am writing to share a recent experience I had with the Greenbelt State Farm office. Earlier…read moretoday, I contacted the office to inquire about obtaining a calendar. As a long-time State Farm customer, and being in close proximity to this location at the time, I thought it would be a simple request. During the call, I was told, "We do not have African-American calendars," which I found both unexpected and concerning, as I had not mentioned my ethnicity or requested any specific type of calendar. Ms. Esther Smith then suggested that I visit my local State Farm office and indicated that the calendars were reserved for her customers. While I understand the importance of prioritizing one's own clientele, my assigned agent was approximately 40 minutes away at the time. The conversation concluded with Ms. Smith offering me a calendar; however, I declined due to the negative undertones I perceived during the interaction. What I anticipated would be a straightforward request instead became an uncomfortable experience marked by what felt like unnecessary assumptions. The tone of the interaction left me feeling uneasy. As this was my only interaction with Ms. Smith, I recognize the possibility that she may have been having an off day; however, I felt it was important to share this feedback.
