Old Town Alexandria

When I called Potomac Trust cold for information on a refi, I didn't get a machine saying "punch 2…read moreif you want to talk to a broker, 3 if I'm wasting your time and 4 if you like impersonal recordings like this one that make you feel like a number." I got the owner himself, after just two rings, a guy, with more than 20 years experience, a human being. Heath Bourne listened to what I was looking for in a refi and within an hour sent me an email with three written estimates from different lenders, each with an interest rate significantly lower than what I'm paying now! I am a person who asks a lot of questions. This can test the patience of and even annoy some people (yes, I'm talking to you, mechanics and doctors!!). I was going to say my wife, but thought otherwise on social media. Anyway, I get it. Time is money. Tough customers take time. But Heath answered all of my questions with professional courtesy and patience through multiple phone calls, emails and requests for revised estimates that would drive most brokers nuts. No wonder my online research revealed Potomac Trust Mortgage has an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau (https://www.bbb.org/us/va/alexandria/profile/mortgage-broker/potomac-trust-mortgage-llc-0241-142453140). This may sound a little corny, but the "trust" in Potomac Trust Mortgage was more than just a name more. It was the way they did business with me. You can trust them.

As first time home buyers, we were quite overwhelmed with the entire process, from start to finish…read more Our first task - post finding a realtor - was getting pre-approved. We met with Heath at PTM at the suggestion of our realtor. He was incredibly nice, incredibly helpful, and willing to answer any questions we had. We peppered him with questions via email before he had any idea whether we'd use them or not, and he answered every one of them thoroughly and promptly. When we had an offer accepted, one condition was that we close in three weeks. Within 24 hours of the offer being accepted, they had a lender for us, initial mortgage estimate documents, and a list of everything they needed. Heather walked us through everything, and was so responsive and prompt. We literally went from accepted offer to mortgage signed in about a week! (It also helps if you make sure you have all your documents ready to go from your end, and they will give you a list of what you need). Everything we did with PTM was electronic, so we weren't worried about running to the office to sign anything. They were accessible via email and phone, and even when we had what was probably a stupid question, they were happy to answer it. From the start, based on our research, we wanted to work with a broker rather than a bank directly, and if you are wanting to do the same, Potomac Trust Mortgage has got to be your go-to!

Once I moved in, the team in charge of maintenance & the financial team have been the same way. The only reason why I'm not giving them a 5star is because it'll be nice to have a basic gym in the buildings. But as far as DC goes, this is the best price/quality equation you will find outside of those "Low Income programs"

I, too, have had the unfortunate experience of dealing with James Watts at CMIC. It took two months…read morefor me to complete the application process and to move in the unit due to Mr. Watts not taking my interest in renting the unit seriously. I had to call him continually to remind him of my interests and to move the process along. Once I moved into the unit, there was nothing but problems with the unit. The walls are very thin that you can completely understand your neighbors' conversations from inside of your unit. The HVAC unit made loud and scary popping and crackling noises. Also, the front door intercom is very loud with the buzzer as well as the door itself when it opens and slams shut. Also, a few days before I broke my lease and was due to move out, I heard a rodent nightly. CMIC did address the issues promptly, but could not resolve the issues. Finally, as I have requested my security deposit and overpayment of rent back, it has been withheld. Mr. Watts no longer takes my calls unless I call from an unknown number, nor does he responds to my emails. I believe he is playing games and lying to me. He even laughed when I questioned why my deposit is being kept. He even told me that I have sensitive ears. I called the president of the company and he never returned my calls. My calls were always intercepted by some other staff member. I was told that he knows my issue and is in agreement with Mr. Watts about withholding my security deposit. Now, this issue will be up to the court to decide.

I cannot recommend Shaun enough as a realtor. He recently helped us to sell our townhome and…read morepurchase a larger house in preparation of welcoming our third child. From Day 1, he was incredibly responsive, detail oriented and truly cared about what was best for our family, not the quickest deal. He led us step by step through the listing and staging process, handled an open house and eliminated so much stress that can otherwise come from moving. For our home search, he suggested listings, showed up to properties with us and recommended an excellent inspector, electrician, and we closed quickly. It's easy to offer Shaun to anyone in the area looking to buy or sell. We were truly blessed to work with him and should we ever need to move again, he'll be my first call.

I'm a happy home owner because of Shaun…read more I lived in DC for 20 years before deciding that I wanted to buy a place. And since I use Yelp for everything else, I decided to see what the People said about realtors in the area. As you can see, Shaun has a lot of fans. I loved what people had to say about him but it was really the video on his website that convinced me to set up a call with him. Hearing Shaun talk about where he grew up, how he ended up in DC and how he runs his business seemed almost too good to be true. But he's the real deal. Shaun wants to help you find your perfect place more than he wants to just sell you a house. Since I was doing this completely on my own it was important to me that I felt comfortable with my realtor. And while I took friends on a couple showings, in the end it was Shaun that helped me figure out which place was right for me. He would gently point out things that maybe I didn't notice or tell me when something wasn't as big of a deal as I thought. When I tried to talk myself into something he would remind me of the reoccurring dream I had about more space and how maybe XX wasn't a good fit if that was still important to me. I was on the fence about whether I wanted to leave the District. I ended up buying in DC but Shaun did a good job showing me all around Old Town. He'd listen to what I liked and didn't like and then adjust what we would look at the next time And while I'm going to be a city mouse a while longer, I made him promise that when the time comes he will help me sell my current place and buy the next one -- I'm eyeing the Parker-Gray area. Lastly Shaun has a guy for everything. Need a lender, Shaun's gotta guy. Need an electrician, gotta guy. Inspector, check. And this network is just as solid as Shaun. His network walked me through everything as a first time home buyer. I hear people talk about how hard it is to buy a place and honestly that wasn't my experience, at all. Clearly buying a place isn't like picking a happy hour spot but once again Yelp pointed me in the right direction. I love my place and finding and buying it was a really great experience because of Shaun. If I could give him 10 stars and 2 energy drinks, I would.
