Worst experience with a bank. Deposited a check on 03/29./24. Was told check funds would be available by Tuesday. 04/02/24. Found out on Tuesday that check was still in fraud prevention. Went into branch at 12710 Hawthorne Blvd, Hawthorne CA. Asked for manager he sent teller to tell us that an additional hold was being extended. We insisted on talking to the Manager that's when we met Jose Lopez (manager) he told us the check was fraudulent and the checking account would be closed.He also said it would effect future ability to open an account because fraud alert would be placed on records with check system. He went on to say we said that wreceive a legal document to take to another bank and we could present that document to a new bank but it wouldn't be the actual check. Called the Attorney that issued the check and she said check was cleared on 03/29.24. Called back to Citi bank and talked to Timothy in fraud prevention and did conference call with Attorney. The attorney verified with Timothy (city bank) fraud prevention that she issued check and the check was cashed on 03/29/24. Timothy then said he had to call her directly and he would call us back never heard from him. Called back a 2nd time and talked to Noel. He started entire process over. He put us on hold alleging he tried to call lawyer back but He couldn't reach her. He kept putting us on hold. While on hold I called Attorney office and got her Assistance immediately who stated no one was calling. When Noel finally came back and I told him that I had just talked to the office he informed me the account would be closed in 3 days for fraud. We asked fot a Supervisor got Jem she said she would call the attorney in thf morning .3/3/24 Talked to Gabriel he can't confirm check with Lawyer. We were told at branch to call and ask for someone in USA. Everyone we spoke to refused to transfer us. Finally today we got USA and was told phone system doesn't allow representatives to reach attorney with a 213 area code. So everyone was lying. We have a number to call in USA now. So at last we talked to Sade a representative at CITI bank in USA. She verified validity of check with attorney and has taken steps to take account and debit card out of fraudulent closer status and reinstate account. But it takes up to 2 weeks for this process even though check cleared same night it was deposited into Citi bank. This has been humiliating. We were told by branch manager in front of customers that it was fraudulent activity. We have hooked to at least a dozen people who blue smoke up our butts. Manager wasn't able to guide me to tell me what could happen or would happen in my situation that led my account to be frozen and a check to be considered fraud. I tried my best to speak with 2 different branches in person Hawthorne and in Culver City. And both managers just acted like there was nothing else they could do to help me in my situation. I had to drive to a location in Wilshire with great reviews and spoke with a banker named Jin Lee who greeted me and sat me down to go over my situation asked me a lot of questions and made calls to the company reps to help me fix the problem. read more

I had to wire some money to a company quickly. I've never done it before, so I walked into this branch and noticed immediately there was a considerably lengthy line of people waiting to handle their standard banking transactions. So, I lined up with the others. Without even asking for assistance, Mr. Ismael Bustamante walked up to me as I was waiting in the line of people. He asked what I needed to accomplish at the bank that day. I explained I needed to do a wire transfer/payment. He told me to follow him to his desk. Once there, he filled out the paperwork . He handled everything and it went through smoothly. Mr. Bustamante's customer service and professionalism were a big PLUS since I didn't know one thing about how to complete the paperwork necessary for the transaction. He's an incredible asset to Citibank and I recommend looking for him if you need to perform anything outside of your normal baking transactions!!! read more

Citibank is my new favorite bank. Let me tell you why. I strongly urge all of you to be more aware of your checking accounts. Many major banking institutions have legal policies that allow them to REORDER your transactions; so that even if you have purchased something with enough funds to cover it at the time, if that particular business takes more than a day or two to post it; the funds will reverse back to you; & then draw out randomly at some point in the future, thus potentially causing an overdraft. This is downright absurd, & something Citibank does not seem to participate in! This location in particular is very well-lit; safe. I do not believe there are indoor ATM's available after business hours ; so be prepared to use the exterior walk-up ones , in the evenings. There is also no receipts or other miscellaneous trash thrown about; like you will find in other areas. The staff here do take a great deal of pride in their work, for certain. This bank also does not seem to tolerate any form of solicitation on or near the premises; thus my general feeling of safety , even while coming after hours. I love my bank! read more

HORRIBLE BANK. Do not bank here! I deposited a check that my husband gave me and his money got withdrawn from his Bank of America account and Bank of America paid Citibank. Citibank said this check was presented twice when check was deposited only once. This was since July 27 . to this day after presenting proof that the issuer bank paid them the check for $1100 they still have not given me my money. I have gone to the branch, called customer service and gotten hanged up more than 4 times and have wasted more than 2 hours on the phone per call. No one knows anything and they just keep bouncing me from department to department. Bank is super quick to charge you when your balance is low but they can take their sweet time when it comes to them holding your money. How is that ethical? read more

Customer service was great. the only issue was there was a homeless guy that entered and was asking customers for money .he was walking back and fourth inside and all the workers ignored it. By far the worst bank I have to come to. I have to come once a month to deposit my rent into this bank and each time it's such a hassles. Usually only one two tellers. The line is to the door every time. The lady in mortgage is always just on her phone. At least the other gentleman at one of the desk is helping someone out. read more

I went to the bank to see what can be done about changing my banking package. I waited for a teller- she let me know I needed to speak with a personal banker. There were two available and one was helping the other on a computer for about 20 min while I waited patiently in the lobby. Someone walked in the door and was helped by a personal banker immediately while I was still waiting. Confused why I was still waiting I asked them if I was going to be helped soon. A banker was finally ready to help me but said "I told you I was going to help you after I was finished" That is not the attitude I would like the person dealing with my money to have. I let her know I didnt need her to argue with me and I left. I definitely understand they are busy and need to finish up before helping the next customer- but they acted like I could wait forever. I was on my lunch and only had an hour. Terrible experience and will not be back to this branch. read more

Overall, the experience here was a little slice of hell. I agree with an earlier reviewer that everyone here is systematically slow....incredibly slow like make you wait an hour slow for no reason. Beware of this branch/bank its a total nightmare to get your own money. I am trying to cash a check that came from Citi Bank itself and I am being told to have a seat so they can verify the check. The check is clearly wrote out to myself and my 16 year old daughter which my daughter and I are both present with 2 valid forms of ID. Not to mention this bank only has 3 locations that cash checks for non-members. I have never ever had a problem cashing a check. I have been here at this beach now for a hour and a half. Several customers has walked out this bank very upset. You should not have to be forced to open an account with this bank. I walked in here trying to fix a mistake they made and what response you think I got from the teller Sara she blatantly told me she could not help me went and grabbed her manager Nakiya or whoever. Who also told me she could not help me fix the mistake they did... they both never looked up my information or even attempted to try... At least make an attempt i mean isn't that a part of your job.. So I have a pay card & only go to this bank to use their ATM, BUT every time I go there's always people lingering around trying to sell me candy, asking for donations, or doing "fundraisers" for college. If you say you don't have cash they wait for you to take out $ to give to them. It's really uncomfortable and annoying & I'm quite frankly scared sometimes to take out $ after I've said no to them bc I feel like they might just take it. Please get a security or talk to the grocery store next door about allowing people to ask for $ in front of their store. I wish negitive stars were an option.... I called the HawThorne branch which is our main branch to report 2 supervisors who I had spoken to in regards to my parents account with my parents on the line who are disabled seniors. I called this branch and got the banker named Ismael Bustamante, so I asked him to forward me to someone who could assist me with my situation and he immediately said he couldn't assist me cause he was with another client although he answered the call so I was confused. I had never been treated so poorly at a bank so I wanted to know who I could talk to And get my problem solved. Ismael didn't want to forward me to his supervisor or anyone who could assist me and instead gave me the same 800 number I already had called previous to calling and the Hawthorne branch. I told him that I had already called the 800 number I got nowhere and just wanted to speak to a supervisor at this point and he still refused to get me a supervisor and assist me. I am very very disappointed with The poor customer service at Citibank. When I called The Citibank customer service 800# The rep I spoke to identified herself as MariaFRT032 out of Tampa, FL. I strongly suggest a retraining for this employee/supervisor and demotion from her supervisor title who's title doesn't suit her being that she was extremely rude, not helpful, and very argumentative with the us. She has absolutely no people skills or manners and truly made us want to close our account with Citibank. My parents felt so hopeless especially being disabled senior citizens. Yesterday I stopped into a Citi branch to make a payment on a Credit Card. The young lady that helped us provided exceptional Customer Service and exceeded my expectations. In addition to handling my transaction, she provided information on a restaurant location I had randomly asked about. The team member's name was Anita and she had been with the bank for about a year. I believe service is a lost art but Anita was a great example of what service should be about. I recommend starring her in your training programs. Her skill set needs to be duplicated and will make sure of Citi's growth in the future. read more
