When I protested, they gave me keys to a car. The car was badly damaged and dirty. When I returned, they gave me another car after 20 minutes, which was also dirty and not the category I booked. But, it was after a long flight and I was bushed. So, I just drove off. When I dropped off the car, they had to audacity to now tell me I damaged the car. I certainly did not. From the reports I read here, this is a scam that Hertz perpetuates on it's customers to make a buck.

However, the valet guy at the pickup claimed I damaged the hubcap with a tiny scratch less than one inch that you could barely even see. When I refused and explained that I didn't do that, he told me I was liable. He then told me to stand in a line that was over an hour at the counter if I wanted to contest it. This is 100% a scam as they know customers can't stand in long lines and wait when they are catching flights at the airport. Luckily, I was very early so I waited, and also got on the phone with my insurance immediately. The person at the counter was not helpful at all and told me they will be charging me for this extremely minor regular wear and tear on the vehicle that I did not damage myself. I am fighting this with my insurance now and I will write reviews on every platform I can to warm others to never use this company. I have included a photo of the "damage".

The car was parked in a ridiculously tight garage, and they apparently expect customers to crawl around inspecting every inch, then go all the way back to the desk to argue about it. Completely unrealistic. When I contacted customer service, they were no help at all. Basically, their attitude was "too bad, you should've caught it." No accountability, no fairness, nothing. Bottom line: Europcar will nickel and dime you, tack on hidden fees, and then blame you for damage you didn't cause. Firstly they wouldn't take my Monzo Credit Card to hold the deposit, claiming that only accepted high street banks, the end result was having to use my HSBC card and then being hit with foreign fx fees. When we returned the car, they claimed we had scratched the windscreen (which we didn't), and immediately took 2500 euros from my credit card. They provided no decent evidence of the damage and even after going through the complaints procedure they have not refunded any money. I've now had to raise a legal dispute against the company and also complaints to the European bodies. This has turned what was a nice break into hell. I wish I had read the reviews prior to using them as this seems to be a common issue with them. Please save yourself the pain and go elsewhere.

Every time have we identified as many as ten damages when getting the car. - Most other people we have seen at the counters have been arguing with the customer representatives. Apparently, everyone seems to become angry when using this company. - They draw money from card instead of reserving it as all other companies do. - They forcefully and unfairly push extended insurance. - Taxes are not quoted in price - thus your price will be as high as when using other companies. - At the last visit staff was incredibly rude.

Front desk workers were very friendly and helpful and most spoke good English. My room was very clean, small, no furniture outside of the bed and a stool. The bathroom is very clean but only includes two large towels and just body wash liquid soap. For an extra 10 euros you can get a good continental breakfast. The tram is a five minute walk and goes to the airport and to old town Nice. I only recommend the hotel for short stays to be near the airport as there is really nothing near the hotel to do. To walk from the airport take the sidewalk next to the tram over the street to the north. Go past the Sheraton hotel and take a right towards the Novotel hotel. Ibis is in the same building just hidden in the back along an alley .
