Citadel brings an interesting mix of small theater with professional acting, limited staging but clever design, and very close seating all-together-in-one. On my visit to watch Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, I was a bit surprised by the quality of the production I saw given the low price of the tickets. This overall was a small, but well run operation. Tickets were easy to purchase and receive at the will-call. The hallway was full of banners of past and future productions, and the playbill was designed nicely. The show started a bit late, but seating was orderly and the pace of the show was good -- with very quick set changes. The actors were skilled in both dancing and singing. Though the choreography was not extremely challenging, they made very good use of the space available and told the story well through the distinctly different characters they portrayed. The singing was very good here -- where the mix of the voices was done well. Even with minimal amplification, I never felt that the leads were overpowered by the chorus. The small theater allowed me to hear the harmonies very well, which were sung loud and clear by the ensemble. I was pleased at the effort taken to ensure that the different characters also had distinctly different vocal mannerisms and tones. Overall, this was an enjoyable experience. The small setting is used to its maximum potential, allowing for a great view of the entire show instead of limiting the quality of the show. The quality of the actors is good and the price is very reasonable. Worth a visit if you live in the area.

A sweet burb setup close to home that I just stumbled on. A laid back theater space situated in a school. Seats can be tight in a full house. Attended a production of Elemeno Pea recently. The cast did a good job with the production. Getting there is easy and the prices are affordable. Treat yourself and support the arts at the same time.

When transferring from my local community college to a 4 year school, I was very picky about where…read moreI wanted to attend. I needed an in-state, small, private, non-affiliated school that was in both a good area and known for excellence in education. Turns out the only school that fit that criteria was Lake Forest College. At Lake Forest College, you are able to develop very close relationships with your Professors and fellow classmates. As someone who has graduate school on their radar, this is essential as letters of recommendation are not easily obtained at larger and more impersonal universities that many people are familiar with. The college has excellent internship programs for most all majors in particular, the psychology program. The practical experience acquired during these internships truly put you ahead the rest of the pack post-graduation. I highly recommend taking advantage of the internships as getting these experiences outside of Lake Forest College are very hard and not to mention rare to obtain. The best part about this place however, is the quality of education. You will learn so much here it's really unbelievable. With that said, you will also work soooo hard it's unbelieveable, making this place more of a grad-prep school than anything else. To attend here, it is a little pricey however, this school was ranked #11 for awarding financial aid in the nation. Most everyone gets some form of grant money or scholarship, which makes going here much more affordabale than what you may initially believe. Some other exciting things happening here will be the new Johnson Science Center which is expected to be completed around 2017. Johnson is being rebuilt to meet the growing demand of the ever popular Life Science majors such as Biology and Neuroscience. Speaking of which, the Neuroscience major here is truly outstanding with high placement into the field of medicine post-grad. Also, this school has an awesome Forester for Life alumni service that helps graduates find jobs, network, and revise resumes which is something a graduate like myself is very thankful for. In summation, if you are like me and would like to attend a small school offering such a huge package, Lake Forest College is for you! Just be sure to take advantage of the internships offered!!! ^_^

I stopped a young man who was a student and he explained exactly turn by turn how to get to the Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse which houses the rink. He was a shining example of the type of friendly, respectful and well spoken student one would hope to find here. The ice rink was state of the art and spectator seats were comfortable chairs and not the usual bleacher style seating. It was a comfortable temperature inside as well.

With the exhibition now spanning nearly the entire season, there's still plenty of time to experience this wonderful showcase of local artistic talent. Admission is free, and the gallery is open to the public every day from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm, even when the office is closed. Since 1924, the North Shore Art League has remained dedicated to its stated mission of "enriching the human spirit through art education and exhibitions". We found that the art gallery space of the North Shore Art League was bright, airy, and pleasant, with the exhibition thoughtfully and professionally curated. All the staff whom we had encountered were friendly and welcoming. If you are in the area, I highly recommend you stopping by the Northshore Art League, on the second floor of the Winnetka Community House, to see "Summer Open". Part of the exhibited art work were even for sale. There is a great variety of beautiful 2D art to choose from. A portion of all sales supports the North Shore Art League, a not-for-profit, 501©(3) organization.

Then the realization hit that we would be stuck at home for weeks (maybe even months...fingers crossed not the case) local businesses got creative. Since then I've been a bit overwhelmed with my kids virtual schedules and would do anything to drop off one of my kids somewhere...and even drive a carpool. Some virtual classes have been better than others. Yesterday we had a music teacher (not at Rootz) send out the wrong zoom passcode and teach the entire class without realizing any kids were on there. But today we had my one of son's favorite classes, Super Hero Boot Camp, here at Rootz take place on zoom and it was the best virtual class I saw yet. Mr. David was well prepared by sending us parents some worksheets (scavenger hunt and coloring page) ahead of time. He had a fun superhero background on zoom and engaged the kids for 40 minutes with super hero activities. Since they are so young it did require a parent to be present and think my husband had so much fun that I may have to sign him up for the class in the future. Are 43 year olds allowed? My son did get distracted a few times, which probably also happens in class, but overall he had so much fun. While he wishes he could see all his fellow superheroes in person, this is a great plan b.
