I was excited to try out the Intro class today and it was a great first step to see how it worked to use the equipment. The instructor did a great job of first stretching us, then explaining/demonstrating a move and giving us an opportunity to practice. I liked how each move built on the next one. I had zero experience and I was successful with most of the moves! It's nice that it's a small class so that the instructor can walk around and give tips to the students. The receptionist shared they just moved into a new space and it has been repainted with more going up on the walls soon. It looked good to me already. It would be OK for someone who hasn't done it but the classes have really gone down this year. The prices have gone up and they took away the free open gyms with the membership. There must be some issues as all the more advanced instructors left to work elsewhere, and there isn't the class depth there used to be. Unless you are new to aerial or live downtown I would try elsewhere read more

Ive taken beg. ballet with Susan and and an aerial, and intro to headstand class here and can say its very accommodating to beginners but the teachers are very skilled in their craft. On a scale of cotton candy to Brussels sprouts, Cirque de Vol is grapes -- sweet and fun. I stopped in to Cirque de Vol while traveling, and I was able to do a drop-in class for their first week of a session. While the space seems well-loved, the rigging appeared to be safe, and I enjoyed the warm-up sequence. Parking was a nightmare as a non-local, and I ended up getting a $125 fine (which has now been waived). Do your research beforehand for parking! read more

I have had so many disappointing experiences with this business. It's awful. I have registered my child for Track Out camps over the past few years, and they always canceled on us at noon the day before the camp. Always by email on SUNDAY at noon. I even emailed the week before to confirm the camp was going forward, but still, they canceled on the Sunday of the camp week. They always refund our fee, but as a 2 working parent family, we need stability in the places we book for her activities. We always have to scramble and our child is devastated. The sad part my daughter loves this camp. The 2 times we were allowed to attend this camp she had an inspiring time. The owner is the problem. Not the staff. Honestly, the pursuit of profit for this business is gross. I know that small business life is hard but they put profit above customers. They always cancel the camp when it's only 1 kid. I understand that isn't going to be a profitable camp but I booked the camp at least a month+ in advance. There is plenty of time for them to plan It's so disappointing. It's infuriating. Cirque De Vol made made me feel as if i was training to join Cirque du Soleil and I loved it!!! The classes began with a little warm up exercise of stretching and a little bit of yoga positions. Once the silk ropes were brought down the class was shown the different workouts to be done on each station. My favorite part about using each of the different workout stations was regardless of which station you were at, you got a full body workout but most importantly will have a good core work out. The building has two different sides: one room is a little more private and closed off so nobody walking by can see inside while the other side has an open view. While your hands were preparing for a feast on Super Bowl Sunday, my hands were hanging on for dear life in a Trapeze fitness class at Cirque de Vol! Ever wanted to perform an aerial act like the performers in the circus do? Try it out with an aerial, silks, trapeze, lyra or acro class at Cirque de Vol! I took gymnastics, ballet, tap, and jazz as a girl so these poor instructors kept having to remind me to grip the bar with my thumbs underneath (which is the opposite of what gymnasts do). As an adult, I kind of like to hang upside down on swings, just as much as like I swing on them so the hanging upside down wasn't a problem for me. I just had to grip the bar properly. I had no idea what a workout we Raleigh Chicks were in for! First things first, stretch, of course. We did some basic stretches. Then they demonstrated form and identified parts of the trapeze. That part where the ropes come together with the bar is called the elbow, in case you were wondering. In the beginner class you just learn basic positioning and technique, but you will feel it! Next, we learned how to climb up and hang upside down. All in one motion, point your feet up -- point -- and over your head between your body and the bar. This is pike position. Then slide your legs back a little and up over the bar. Easy! Then we learned the starfish position. That was kind of my favorite, but I have to be careful because of my sensitive back. Still. I did it. Nice flexibility practice. Good for your core too! After that, we learned to sit up and climb and sit. The next position was a sidestar, but I struggled with that one. Some other girls really got it good though. Hanging, dangling, flying, floating. We got it. We're basically circus stars now. Ditch the gym, join the circus! I have taken 3 classes here - Intro to Beginner Aerial Silks Workshop, Intro to Trapeze Workshop, and Aerial Bootcamp. They are all amazing! My Aerial Bootcamp classes and Trapeze workshop were taught by Gabriella. She's wonderful! I am now attending Aerial Bootcamp weekly in hopes that I will build enough core, grip, and arm strength to eventually be able to do tricks. The Aerial Bootcamp is reasonably priced at $39 for a monthly class pass (4 classes). I love that they offer beginner workshops so that you can try something out before committing to a 6 week series. They are very fun and exciting workouts but can be challenging for a newbie. Also, I have set a new goal for myself. I want to be able to do the splits! Children's Classes: We can recommend Samantha's Saturday Trapeze class. This particular instructor is focused and controlled, partly due to the nature of only taking one child at a time on the bars. Samantha is very gentle and affable with her students, and approachable to parents. Tail-end class observation does not disrupt her class as she has the kids well in hand, and she was thoughtful and wise enough to have the children give a 15 minute demonstration/performance at the end of the series. read more

I LOVE the aerial silks class at Cirque de Vol! I started with the aerial boot camp to build up some of the upper/core strength you need and am now two classes deep in the beginner's aerial silks class (1hr 15min). You learn SO much just in one class and every class I feel stronger and get better at things I couldn't do as well before. I would highly recommend it if you're looking to spice up your workout routine or do something new! It's kind of expensive ($25-30), but IMO worth every penny! Also, my 9 year old sister does it as well and she LOVESSS it! I probably wouldn't start them younger than 7ish though, depending on the child read more

I attended a beginner aerial silks series here 2 years ago (I attend another gym now), so this review might not be as relevant anymore. I took beginner classes here for 3 months and was disappointed by the lack of support from the staff. I'd attended a few aerial classes in Charlotte, and this studio was not nearly as friendly for newcomers as the Charlotte studio was. Every class started with an instructor showing us a sequence of 4 to 10 moves, calling out the names of each move once, then telling us to practice on our own ropes. It was overwhelming for me. I'd asked for a skill sheet or cheat sheet from one of the owners so that I might have a reference for the names of the moves and so that I might also know what I could and couldn't do yet (scaffolded learning). The owner just said that she didn't have anything like that available, but that she was writing a book about aerial moves and instructions, and I could just buy her book when she was done. It was kind of a rude move. I often left class feeling bad, like I wasn't capable of doing anything, and I wasn't sure what I'd learned. It was not a friendly or supportive environment, but it was at least clean and well maintained. read more

My brother bought me a gift certificate to Cirque de Vol almost 2 years ago after I expressed interest in trapeze classes. I contacted the studio to see if they were planning to open up Sunday trapeze classes and was told to wait and see if demand creates a weekend class. I waited and waited and waited... nothing. I finally decided to register for aerial silks instead. But wait! It turns out that my gift certificate expired after 12 months. You know the gift certificate that mentioned *NOTHING* about any expiration date! I find the practice of expiration dates for gift certificates pretty shady as is, but expiration dates that are not explicitly stated are a whole new level of sketch. Instead of apologizing and honoring the full value, the manager offered me 50% of the certificate's value so I can "still enjoy the classes". Yea, hard pass. Horrible customer service. read more

Gabriella is an amazing instructor. I came here for a Yelp Fit Club event to try the Aerial Bootcamp, and WOW. Why even have a gym membership? Skip the gym. Come here. The Aerial boot camp is a great alternative to the gym if you want to build your core & climb silks. The class starts off with basic stretching, and then leads to more intricate stretches that focus on your neck/wrists/ankles. While you are stretching and rotating your neck/ankles/wrists, you want to move as if you are in a bath full of honey. After the stretches, Gabriella demonstrates exercises at each station. Each workout station has a timed exercise, and you're notified when to switch in between. I'd highly recommend this place for anyone who hates going to the gym, and wants a fun alternative to working out. read more

Cirque de Vol made my first experience doing aerial pretty awesome. The great thing was you didn't necessarily need any experience or a group of friends to enjoy yourself; the staff and other participants make you feel comfortable and gave off good vibes and positivity the whole time. With that being said it was challenging and it will definitely give you a workout if that's what your looking for. Not to mention it's fun It targets your entire body, specifically your core and arms in my opinion which is great because who doesn't want to get tight for the summer. The class will challenge you no matter what level of fitness your at and even if your at the lowest level you can do the modifications and build up to more. I'd go back! I went for an event through yelp which was free so I can't give any feedback on pricing. Also it's a no pressure environment. I came across a "Girls Night Out" on Facebook hosted by Cirque de Vol and thought it would be a fun team building for myself and the team of hairdressers I work with. Unfortunately the class sold out quickly. Still interested and excited about offering a night like this to our team we started communicating with Cassidy via email in late September. We set a date and confirmed 9 spots for an intimate restorative and relaxation night. The class we booked was scheduled to start at 7pm. At 7:01, still doors locked, lights down and equipment packed away, I decided to email and call. No answer until 7:29, when we were apologized too and asked if we could come back that the instructor was there now. Being a windy 45 degrees out, our team of 9 left at 7:15. I'm embarrassed that I organized this night for a team of 9 hard working and extremely professional ladies and was flat out no showed! We work 10 hour days through the holidays and we were looking forward to this time together that took 3 months to schedule because of our busy schedules. I'm shocked to not here a response from Cassidy yet, when my response to her at 7:29 was "Would it be fair to offer us a complimentary class on a different night?"... we will not be coming back. read more

I took an aerial silks workshop ($30) with Liz at Cirque de Vol only a few short hours ago. It lasted an hour and a half. Like most of the world, I have never tried aerial silks before, but since I've been going to the gym regularly for a couple months and feel moderately fit, I decided to try something new. The workshops, offered occasionally, are a way to try a certain activity without having to commit to the class series quite yet, and this was perfect for me. Cirque de Vol has a LARGE range of unique fitness classes that you won't normally get a chance to try at a traditional gym--hooping classes, poi, aerial yoga, trapeze, to name just a few. I chose silks because I'm a huge fan of another Cirque, Cirque du Soleil. If I thought I was amazed by them before, I am now at least twice as amazed. Circus arts, including this one, take a HUGE amount of core and upper body strength. The class was tough, and I got a little airsick on the inversions we did (although I was pleased to have the core strength to even get to the nauseating point to begin with), so I don't think I will be signing up for this particular series, but I was really pleased with how much we learned, how it was taught (Liz was an extremely clear and understanding instructor), and what a workout I received for my money. I will definitely be back to try something else. If you are one of those for whom the treadmill just isn't cutting it, I'd recommend a perusal of Cirque de Vol's course schedule! read more

I've only taken trapeze here, so I can't talk about other classes. The classes I've taken were easy to follow and small enough to cater to my individual needs. I had a lot of questions and was nervous the first few classes the instructor was always willing to listen and help out. The best moment for me was at the end of my first trapeze intro (6 classes) everyone was given time to perform a routine to music. I was shy about performing, thinking I hadn't learned enough, my instructor pushed me to perform and I am so glad I did!! I took my girls to Raleigh, NC for the summer so that they could enroll in the Cirque de Vol circus camp. I enrolled them in four weeks of it and we were not disappointed. The staff at Cirque de Vol are exceptional, talented and gifted teachers. In just one week, my girls (8 and 5) learned how do tricks in silks, as well as on the static trapeze. They learned to hula hoop as well and we took several hula hoops with us to keep practicing. Each week, they made new friends and were excited to go back to camp. Their performances at the end of the week were awesome confidence builders. This is a grade A kids camp that puts Raleigh on the map as one of the best places to go on summer break to give the kids a wonderful, and safe experience. read more

I took my group of 8 fourth grade Girl Scouts to a special class here last week. It was such a wonderful, fun experience! I can't recommend it enough. Our teacher was excellent. Patient, fun, and made the entire experience fun for each girl. Everyone felt like they accomplished something, and had fun doing it. I was super impressed with how quickly they were able to learn the moves. My 9 year old loved it and we will be signing up for the next 6 week session! Several girls in our class are interested as well. They offer various adult classes and girls night out classes that look fun. We've also spoken to our teacher about a 4th grade team building class. Our group did the silks class, but you could also do a trapeze class. The class came with a Girl Scout badge as well. Highly recommend to all, but especially other troops! read more

I took one of there yoga classes and it was hands down the WORST yoga class I have ever taken. I have taken tons of yoga classes-- all types of toga classes at different studios-- and this was horrible. Would never come here again for a yoga class. Instructor was boring, monotoned, and not helpful. If I was a new yogi this class would have ruined yoga for me, luckily I know this is not what yoga should have been and is all about. read more

I emailed the studio about setting up a private session for silks or lyra, and received super fast responses from the owner, Sheryl. She helped me set up a private session for silks with Robin, who was fantastic! I learned a lot in our hour together and it was great to be in such a pretty, artistic space. My coworkers and I took a private aerial lesson with Casey. It was so much fun! I hadn't done aerial yoga before (some of us hadn't done any kind of yoga before), and I was apprehensive the class would be enjoyable. I thought we'd be limited by our inexperience and wouldn't spend much time upside down or doing anything challenging. We were able to do SO MUCH! Casey was an excellent, articulate, and extremely patient instructor. She walked us through a variety of moves that were fun, new, and definitely worked up a sweat.
