Cirillo's Culinary Academy made for a great educational night out Located next door to Oregano's restaurant, this is a huge teaching space that makes you feel like you're on an episode of Top Chef. The course I took was on Knife Skills and as our teacher pointed out at the start, it won't give you knife skills, only show you how to practice to achieve knife skills. (I left with all 10 fingers still intact!) We learned about knives and practiced our dicing & julienning while creating a delicious stir fry I had for lunch the next day. I would definitely do another course!

We had a great time and my wife is even considering going back for knife skills or other classes.

Once you get here the variety here more than makes up for it. This is not your average housewares store. They do focus on baking needs and cater to the professional supply/tools side of things. If you are an advance bake at home type you will be happy to come here. They have all kind of gadgets that will help you create the next masterpiece at home or in your professional store. The staff was knowledgeable and provided assistance when needed so kudos for that as a beginner like me really appreciated it. 4 Stars all the way.

I finally went to McCall's the other day with a friend and had to hold back in not spending all the money in my wallet. Not that things in this baking supply heaven are all that expensive, it's just that you end up wanting to buy every single type of themed cupcake liners, several colours of coloured sugars, all different shades of gel-paste food colour, and so on, as you walk through every aisle of the shop (fortunately there are only about half a dozen aisles!). There was quite a good variety of items available when I was there, although some areas seemed somewhat picked over, especially the seasonal items, so be sure to visit the shop well in advance of your holiday-themed baking ventures. In addition to all these decorating-related items, you can also purchase all kinds of pans, trays, carrying cases, baking utensils, etc. But none of that is nearly as fun as the pretty stuff, obviously. Also of note, McCall's offers a wide variety of cake decorating courses throughout the year for newbies and experts alike. Unfortunately, their website is horribly maintained and you'll likely have no luck in properly seeing the course schedule online, but they do have a free booklet available in the store with all the information you need, or you could always give them a call.

They usually have different instructors for different fazes of the course which leads to conflicting advice and confusion. If they don't really like you they are total pricks. They will tell you the cake or any baked good is acceptable and no more work needs to be done on it and then turn around and give you a poor mark. Near the end of the course most of the people just had enough of the schools and were very happy that the course ended. If anyone is thinking of making a career from pastry arts and baking I recommend George Brown or Le Cordon Bleu. Don't waste you time with the yahoo instructors.

Kept making false promises about when new classes would be offered -- bottom line is --- they didn't intend to honour the groupon classes -- just did it to get cash flow. It's a pity because there were several classes we wanted to take after the cupcake decorating -- but they will not be getting any of my business. There are other cooking / baking schools around that treat their clients well. The whole idea of Groupon is to try something at a discount, then if you like it, you come back and pay full price. If they didn't want Groupon clients, they had no business putting themselves on Groupon.

I found her offensive stand offish lacking in interpersonal skills and customer service/business acumen. She expected payment on classes that our daughter did not attend due to illness and offered a small percentage of make up classes. When it came to extending any latitude given the excessive absenteeism, she made no exceptions and on several occasions, threatened to discontinue classes for our daughter if the account standing was not "current" She did this quite glibly as if they were working an assembly line not a music school who teaches kids. On several occasions I requested an account ledger to view how many classes we had actually paid for versus the classes we attended and Sharon agreed to divulge. It was not until several requests and weeks later that she refused to divulge, siting privacy issues with the account holder ( my daughter's mother ) even after I had been given the task of having to deal with the account because my x spouse no longer wanted to. If you want personal care with your child in a music school this is not the one.
