I'm not new to yoga but even with the knowledge I did have, Debra expanded my practice more than most have over the past few years. Great pointers, adjustments, tips and just overall education on the movement into the pose, and not just rushing in to the pose. Yoga is called a practice for a reason. If you take the time to learn the poses correctly, your body learns where to go, like a bungee cord. It's also hard to unlearn bad habits, which I'm excited to do with Debra! The light therapy massage table is also a must try, felt so good on my spine and the heat was perfect! #yogaforlife #yogis #yogapose

When she first shows the class a move, there's always a few of us left with mouths hanging open in extended "wows." Anna then does a great job of breaking down more complicated moves into smaller manageable pieces so that you can do it too! She also provides conditioning that will help you get off the ground and into the air! And into the air you will go! Whether it's basic climbs, hip-keys or drops, the super high ceilings at Turner Hall will make you feel like a pro even if you're just starting out. :-) I had been desperately looking for a place to train in silks during my Milwaukee summer internship. I randomly found out about Anna through a juggler at Summerfest (shoutout to Geoff and the Fire Circus!), so I knew she would be legit. I've only been able to go for a handful of weeks before heading back home, but I will miss Anna and the rest of the silks crew. Keep having fun and being cool, ladies! I'll hit you up if I'm ever back in Brew City! PS. Anna offers classes for adults as well as kids! You're never too young or old to learn to fly! PPS. I only took silks but she also offers sling, lyra/hoop and a variety of other fun workshops!

I have been taking private lessons and group classes with Anna for just over a year. I started as a…read morecomplete beginner, knowing nothing about aerial fitness or performance. Aerial certainly can be complex and require some strength, Anna was able to tailor our lessons to what I was able to do. If there were moves and tricks I wasn't able to nail, she either modified them to make them a little easier, or would show me conditioning exercises to work through on my own time, so we could revisit the move at another lesson. Aerial can be a little daunting to those who are new to it, but Anna understands and helps through the lesson. I'd highly recommend taking classes with Anna for anyone who is looking to gain some strength and flexibility. Aerial itself is a workout, but it has also enhanced other areas of exercise for me. Most importantly though, it's fun! Again, Anna is able to tailor classes to not only level of expertise, but also to what you want out of it. She can show sequences that really push your muscles to get a good workout, ones that are simply fun and showy, and everything in between. After a couple months of taking lessons with Anna, I ended up utilizing one of those Groupon deals for another aerial studio in Milwaukee. At said other studio, I couldn't believe the lack of focus on safety. One instructor for a group of 15 people, no breakdown of how to safely get into and out of poses and moves, and a general lack of reading the level of fitness of the group and their abilities. I was lucky I had started my aerial experience with Anna, and had learned how to keep my body safe and to read my abilities. In the Groupon deal class, I watched as complete beginners struggled through the lesson and almost injure themselves multiple times. Currently, Anna Belle Aerial offers a mix of group classes for different aerial apparatuses as well as private to semi-private lessons, all at a reasonable price.

I initially wanted to sign up for an aerial yoga class, but was prompted to take a "beginner" pole…read moreclass instead because it started sooner. It turned out the class was a Beginner II rather than an intro, and the instructor was more of a demonstrator than a teacher. Despite struggling, I still enjoyed the class enough to sign up for a second session. That session was oversold, as the only pole available had a huge floor flaw that was TAPED over. Over the course of the class, the tape and adhesive became tackier and eventually ruined the shoes I was wearing for the first time. This resulted in my shoes literally sticking to the floor, so I couldn't complete a move and ended up painfully smashing my knees against the edge of the pole base, resulting in bruises on both. Despite being oversold and unsafe, the studio refuses to refund my session fee. I had two credits from signing up for the first session, and I asked for a refund after the 2nd class of the 2nd session. I should have my entire fee refunded, but they took two weeks to write me back and let me know that because the semi-present instructor didn't know I was in pain, they are going to KEEP MY MONEY?!?! The instructor saw me trying to remove the tape and goo from my shoes, but they are literally going to try to weasel out of being accountable with this. They should refund me for my session, replace my shoes, and acknowledge that their studio is UNSAFE, their classes are oversold, and their practices are shady. Really disgusted by the entire experience, it's a shameful way to run a business, and the lack of concern and support is negligent and irresponsible.

I attended a Gong Immersion event at Avani Studios at Sky Fitness…read more A gong immersion, or gong bath, does not involve water but instead being immersed in the sound vibrations of a gong, believed to be healing to the body by entering a relaxing or meditative state. I knew what to expect because I had attended a gong bath many years ago. That experience had me falling asleep, experiencing synaesthesia, seeing explosions of light, color and sound, as well as feeling very peaceful and relaxed. This immersion was held in the yoga studio and was at capacity. You set down a mat, and other blankets, with feet in the direction of the gong. (This event had five sound healers and gongs). We started with some stretches and yoga. Then you lie down, palms up, legs uncrossed and listen. It's hard to describe the sound. It's deep, almost like a rumble, kinda like the cymbals, but more than just hearing, I also felt it in my pulse. With five gongs it's almost like a symphony with sounds and vibrations building on top of each other but you don't just hear it coming from the direction of your feet, it seems to be coming from every direction, immersing you in vibration. At this point I went in and out of sleep and certain sounds made my limbs twitch. One certain sound seemed to jolt me awake and I saw yellow or green pops of color (my eyes were closed). After that, I started to get restless and could not stay still and needed to stretch. I think at that point I had enough and it was maybe 10 minutes more (the total gong portion was 75 min?). I felt very tired (perhaps extremely relaxed?) and calm, my eyes were tearing (???), and we then had a short deep breathing and meditation. The gong practitioners were lovely, beautiful souls who promoted peace and healing. I felt at peace and in a more refreshed state of mind than when I started. I would attend another of these events but next time I would bring more blankets.
