This was a bad experience from the start. The owner Michelle has no people skills, she is not…read morefriendly and very rude. Her lack of professionalism is disgusting. She never welcomed and or greeted me and my daughter in a positive way. Day one I walked in and she was behind the counter, it took 10 minutes for her to even acknowledge me. Her husband is worse. He is very rude. He never said hello at all, what he did there I cant even say. He just walks around and gives intimidating looks. The week of recital came around and the lack of communication between Michele and the parents was non existent, unless you are on Michelle's good side. . She continues to say, I will email you the picture of the wig and socks the kids will need the day of. She never sent it, apparently my daughter needed a Huge Lollypop for one of her numbers. No one ever told me to make this for my daughter. My daughters teacher never told me, Michelle the owner never told me. Fast forward to the day of the recital, a parent who volunteers to help Michelle asked me for my daughters Lollypop. Her attitude was horrible towards me when I said "I didn't know she needed this, no one told me"... Everyone is so rude, the energy is bad. This was the first dance experience for my 3year old and it was the horrible. The husband was screaming at all the kids the whole time with this condescending tone to 3-15 year old kids. He was sarcastic and answered every question with an attitude. I volunteered to help back stage to be with my 3year old and her group all in the same age. No one gave me a run down on what to do, bring or need to volunteer. I thought it will be best to bring snacks, I prepared sandwiches for them. took the drinks, took them to the restroom, helped them get ready for the show and kept my eye on them. When the recital was over I helped clean up everything my group was responsible for. I picked up trash, put chairs back, helped the kids gather their belongings. I made sure the girls I was watching went to their parents. As I was walking out Michele (The owner) stops me and yells at me in front of my daughter "You cant leave" Everything needs to be picked up and cleaned up"!! The level of attitude was beyond me. She caught me off guard. I explained to her everything is done, my group is all cleaned up. She continued to scream at me and say ("Its not just your group its everything!!) You cant leave!! She practically held me hostage. I went back to see what else I could do to help and she went wright behind me to watch and make sure I did it. I felt so bullied, I felt hopeless in front of my daughter. My daughter kept saying "mom teacher mad"? I kept saying no baby, everything is okay. This is the picture my daughter was left with. I do not recommend this place or the people there. I was there for my daughters practices and the recital first hand, I witnessed these people treating these kids horrible. If you are a parent with grown kids and just plan to drop them off and leave, this is not the place for you. The energy and vibe is so negative. Trust me, this experience made me hesitate to sign up my daughter to any dance school ever gain.. After running this experience over and over again in my mind. It was the people... Michele and her husband along with any of those mean moms with the real problem. Dance is beautiful and god willing I will find the right place for my daughter.

She teaches them how to be responsible, setting goals for the class and teaching them important basic techniques. It's a great first experience and foundation for dancing. I would highly recommend this dance studio to everyone in the area. I know a few people from dance and cheer in local high schools have mentioned that all the dancers coming from SFSDC are amazing dancers!

It seems most dance teachers have to fit in lessons at the end of a very busy day of other jobs and studios. But they come refreshed and give consistent, fun energy every time. Classes are fun. Intermediate goes quick. It's not Beginner+ like at some studios where it gets watered down. I appreciate that. My first time I left after 5 minutes. Months later I tried again and made it 15 before I could no longer keep up. It gives you something to work up to. Even after probably 40+ beginner classes, I had to really focus in an intermediate class. The general classes can be crowded and lopsided with way more guys. But they can control that. However, Master classes are smaller and they only take a matched quantity of leads and follows so less sitting out rotations. For some reason even when we started with a matched quantity the guys tended to come more consistently (pressure is on us to learn it!) The rotation break can be helpful when it does happen so you can walk yourself through it alone. I've taken lessons from probably 60 other dance pros in another type of dance and Nicole and Demetrio are the best. I switched dances because Steven's Steakhouse was close to home and they just made it fun. I genuinely missed it when I couldn't go so decided to stick with it.

Before the classes I felt like I only danced awkwardly and never got my body to move right. I felt immediate confidence even trying some of their tutorials on YouTube because they address common things that people tend to do that would make the moves look awkward. The first class I took with them was free using the Yelp check in offer. The class usually begins with a warm up of the basic steps where the whole class faces the instructors. After, the class pairs off with a lead and a follow but are expected to rotate partners so that everyone can learn with someone else. Some students are more experienced than others and some have their own swag which makes things super fun. Each time we rotate we build on the routine for the session. Demetrio and Nicole make it a point to make sure the leads don't do things that violate the follows and the students I encountered were respectful and friendly. I had also took their beginner Masterclass which was very helpful and interesting. Each class provided insight and focused on helping us build a foundation to be able to gain confidence to better dance socially. As a follow, Nicole would teach us how to style our moves which I thought was great because she would show us examples how best to achieve the style and also warn us what may look awkward. They never single us out but rather just guide the class as a whole unless the individual had a question. Lastly, Demetrio and Nicole specifically have a flow and routine that is generally easier to follow than the guest instructors. I felt even though some guest instructors had some fun music they were way harder to follow which made the classes less enjoyable. I have recommended many of my friends to check them out.

Being born and raised in the heart of South Central Los Angeles, I know that Watts doesnt just consist of gangsters and druggies. This community is rich with wonderful people and an interesting history. The founders of this wonderful company are Quentin Drew, and actor/playwright, Lynn Manning. I met Quentin Drew in '03 or '04 during a reading for WVTC. We had a lot in common. Both of us came from South LA and were passionate about theater even though our family was puzzled as to where this passion came from. Quentin past away in 2005 at a young age. However, his vision of the theater company still remains. Watts Village Theater Company prides themselves in producing only brand new plays. The Artistic Director, Guillermo Avilas also comes from South Los Angeles. He along with Teeko Parran work to provide great pieces of theater to the Watts Community and to the rest of LA.

The rest of the building seems to be modernized so it was disappointing to arrive to our seats and see the disparity. We came for the 8/10 1:30pm showing of the Lord of the Rings show. 25+ minutes past, the screen remained broken (no sound, no video). Very ridiculous. We were offered a refund and tickets for the future. I will say staff was friendly and tried to resolve the issue amicably.

When we went to watch Zootopia, my reserved seats were literally on the floor. There were tools left around the seating, as if someone had been repairing them and just walked away without finishing or cleaning up. On top of that, the sound kept lowering throughout the movie to the point everyone had to sit still and be very quiet to listen to the dialogue. I recently went to watch Avatar, and the condition of the theater hasn't improved. The recliners are peeling and some don't recline anymore. During the movie, the screen kept going black and I'm not sure but I felt like the sound was off as well. The only good thing I can say about this theater is the seat service, but even that has some delays, 30-40 minutes for popcorn. I really hope management addresses these issues, because this theater used to be great and clearly has potential.
