One of my dad's cousins took out to dinner while we were visiting in Paris. He chose one of his favorite restaurants, which he says he comes to a couple times a month. For starters, every table gets a loaf pan of cold terrine with a whole jar of cornichons and fresh, crusty bread. This definitely set the tone of our dinner for the delicious evening.
I started with the shrimp raviolis in cream sauce, which was one of the most decadent sauce I've tried. After eating the few raviolis, I passed the bowl around to dip bread into the light cream sauce. My boyfriend and dad got the raw beef in an Asian-inspired sauce, which they enjoyed. My mom got a puff pastry starter, which she loved.
For entrees, I got the scallops with lentils, which were cooked perfectly. My mom and boyfriend got the roasted duck. It was the best duck we had on this trip (and we had a few), as well as a very generous French portion! One of the dishes came with cheesy polenta, which my boyfriend and I loved.
When it was time for dessert, there were so many options. We took a bite of our own and passed each one around the table. I got the pear compote with chantilly cream and pistachio financiers. It might be biased, but this was my favorite. Coming from America, the cheesecake was not my preference, but the table enjoyed it. There were also some refreshing options like a lemon sorbet and fresh fruit with cream.
Whether it was the food, wine, or company, this was one of the best meals we had on our trip. I can see why it's a family favorite! read more
