I am familiar with Crosby Street because of De Vera's, Opening Ceremony, WeWork [previous office space where my LLC was for about a year], as well as the fondly remembered Dunderdon [we miss you!] My first impression is a well-appointed / well organized space. My second thought went to the sincere & genuine event coordinators. Even though the EventBrite page prevented me from getting a ticket RSVP, the coordinators personally called me to encourage me to attend anyway. They went out of their way to make room for my wheelchair, put me near one of the core members of the group [in case I had questions], & event went so far as to get me a cold soda to use in lieu of an ice pack! I will definitely look to attend more events & bring more of my art here to have the members take a look & give me feedback!

Our team had an absolute blast painting with Alla during a virtual team event. The team kept going…read moreon about just how incredible her energy was -- making it all even more fun than it already was! She and Eugene were very accommodating to our team's itinerary that day, and made it the easiest part of the even to plan. Alla hand sketched each of our canvases (which turned out way more impressive than any of us expected with our lack of artistic ability), and had them shipped the perfect amount of time prior to the day of the event. So glad we chose Art Fun Studio to include in our year end event -- truly such a positive experience. Hope to work with them again in the future!!

She also provided tips on how to paint better if you weren't a pro at it - which I certainly was not. She has a number of different ceramics to pick from and took great photos of the group with her DSLR as well. Most importantly, you can bring beer/alcohol and drink while you paint - listening to music of your choice!

I had grown up listening to Mos Def and expected the wit, warmth, and effortless cool of "Ms. Fat Booty." Instead, Yasiin Bey arrived in a more poetic and experimental mode, with the intellectual intensity and Rick Owens aesthetic of an artist still pushing forward. Arriving by subway and seeing that incredible Apollo sign glowing over 125th Street immediately made the night feel important. The theater felt more like a temple than a concert hall, with its deep red interior, velvet seats, and intimate layout bringing the audience remarkably close to the stage. I remember sitting in the auditorium thinking about how many legends had performed there and how much of the music I listened to every day had passed through that building. Throughout the performance, the crowd listened with such intelligence and appreciation that the evening felt almost like attending a class inside a concert. Yasiin Bey was cerebral, theatrical, and willing to challenge expectations, while the Apollo audience completed the exchange with its focus and responsiveness. Sitting there felt sacred and deeply moving, as though I had entered a living tradition rather than simply visited a famous old theater. Years later, my fortune had changed dramatically: instead of power lunches at Casa Lever on Park Avenue, I was schlepping couches into fifth-floor walk-up apartments in Harlem. After one job, as a snowstorm began, I passed the Apollo on my walk to the subway, and its iconic sign brought back a happy memory from before my capitalist world collapsed. On the 6 train downtown, I thought again about how honored I had felt to enter a place so central to Black music, New York, and the culture that shaped my identity. Some institutions can be understood through photographs and history books, but the Apollo has to be entered, heard, and felt, and I hope to bring my children there someday.

The guys in charge of colossal installations at Rockefeller Center! Remember the giant flowering…read moreKoons puppy? Paikian laser towers and retro cars softly playing the Requiem? Wax figures walking up a pole to heaven, and the creepy pointy-headed plastic Murakami statue? The latest installation is the giant concave/vex (depends on which side of the Center you're on) mirror by Anish Kapoor, who manages to invert space in the middle of one of Manhattan's busiest holiday shopping areas, something tiny restaurant owners have been trying to do for years. They may be best known for the Rock. Center stuff, but PAF's been around for a while, and have been doing all sorts of fun, subversive, art-for-the-people type projects. Public Art takes art out of museums and galleries, which can often seem like dead spaces (for dead art), and puts it on the sidewalk, where people can experience and interact with it. They ask famous artists to do this, pushing the artists as well as the viewers to contemplate new methods of communication between the artist, the artwork, and the viewer, necessitating new relationships between the three. Check out their website for pictures and info on past and present projects. All in all, Public Art Fund is one of the most delightful and exuberant institutions for the arts operating in New York. This year I only got the chance to attend one show and that was at water street but the crowd was kind of obnoxious and it just was not the best vibes ever. Fashion Night Out needs to come back as well. On to the next one, February 2026, should be the next NYFW attempt at being better this time.
