A must when visiting Maui! Don and the rest of the staff were great. I am a beginner when it comes to horseback riding and the crew at Circle M did a good job on briefing us on the proper safety measures and how to steer the horses in the proper direction while riding. They also provide a small bag for your belongings that hooks onto the saddle, cold water bottles, and sunscreen prior to the ride. They have an area with old cowboy boots and hats that you can borrow for the ride too! During the ride, my horse occasionally got side tracked and pulled away to sneak a few bites of grass and tree leaves (don't blame him whatsoever for wanting to snack!), but Don was really patient and always helped me with redirecting him. As a whole, the horses were all well trained and knew the route, which made for a comfortable ride. The views were unreal and Don was very knowledgeable on paniolo history. They also have a great shop with lots of reasonably priced items that are good quality. Would 100% come back for another horseback ride with them the next time I return to Maui. MAUI MUST This was one of our all-time favorite excursions. EVER. Our Party of 4 was there for the morning horse back riding tour and it did not dissapoint. Yon gave us a full-fledged saftey briefing - super informative and hilarious guy. He made things super easy to digest. Bailey and another gentleman were our guides for the ride and they were fantastic. They were both phenomenal at leading & guiding the ride. They kept an eye on all the paticipants and horses, super safe, super fun, and first-timer friendly. They informed us about our horses personalities, told us about the ranch's history, helped with photos, and gave tips and tricks on how to handle your horse really making this an enjoyable experience. I had the pleasure of being paired up with Poncho, a short and stocky horse wth a BIG personality. I did have some issues reining him in and getting him to listen to me (he was a stubborn one LOL), but Bailey gave me great pointers about how to get him going. She made the experience super enjoyable. Despite Poncho being super stubborn and mischievous, I couldn't help but laugh throughout the ride. I was proud of us for making it to the end of the trail. The trail itself was beautiful. Very scenic. Get ready to get your phones out for some photos/videos. The team running the ranch is hands down amazing. You're also welcome to take a peak at all the cool animals on the ranch after the ride and there's a gift shop on the way out. There's also a one-eyed cat named Cheeze It hanging out at the gates -make sure to say Hi. If you're on the fence about doing this, don't be. Just do it. You wont regret it. read more

We booked a month in advance and we understand weather happens. They let us know an hour before our excursion that they had to cancel due to rain the day before. They knew the rain happened. Didn't give us any advanced notice so we didn't have to get up at 6 am on our vacation and drive an hour to be told to turn around. Told us we could book the following day for a non-private excursion. We were game after trying to rework our schedule and they told us they couldn't do it at that point because the horses needed a day off, but aren't they getting that today with the bad weather? Anyway we spent $620 for a private ride and it was so insulting the last minute cancellation and how we reworked everything to make it work for THEM. We would have loved to give a great review but I can't believe the audacity and complete disregard for timing. read more

Just Go Already! My daughters (11 and 12) absolutely loved our visit to Circle M Ranch today -- and honestly, so did I! From start to finish, the staff was outstanding. Every wrangler we met was incredibly kind, patient, and helpful -- some of the best I've ever encountered. Special shoutout to Don, Chase, and Bailey, and to the wonderful front desk staff (Trina, I think?) who helped make everything seamless. The horses were perfectly matched to our experience levels. My daughters are still beginners, but they felt safe and comfortable the entire time -- especially thanks to the wrangler who rode with them and kept up fun conversation throughout the ride. The scenery was stunning, with plenty of interesting history sprinkled in, and it's clear the horses are well cared for. You can also tell the new owners genuinely care about the ranch -- they're continually making improvements to both the facilities and the animals' well-being, even though things are already in great shape. One of the most memorable parts of the day: the staff went above and beyond to give my mom (who recently broke her femur) a special experience. They arranged an ATV ride so she and my dad could relax at a gorgeous lookout point while the rest of us rode. That kind of thoughtfulness is rare and so appreciated. The whole experience was more than worth the price and a quick 30-minute drive from Kihei. We'll definitely be back next time we're on Maui! read more

Circle M Ranch is truly a gem! This well-run ranch offers not only stunning scenery and amazing horses, but also a warm, welcoming atmosphere that makes the experience unforgettable. The staff is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, making riders of all experience levels feel comfortable and cared for. Our guide Chase, a true Paniolo (Hawaiian cowboy), gave us a fascinating history lesson as we rode along breathtaking ocean cliffs--right as whales were spouting in the distance! He made sure everyone felt safe and relaxed, which meant so much to me as a mom of 9-year-old twins and a 7-year-old daughter. Trina also did a wonderful job welcoming us and riding alongside us with such positive energy. Be sure to say hi to Cheese-it the cat when you arrive--he's part of the charm! The ranch itself is in such a beautiful location. There are many different animals on the premises. For horseback riding, the guides prepared the riders well with excellent step by step "how to drive" the horse instructions. The horses are perfect for calm trail rides. It's easy to "coast" along and take pictures of potential whale breaches and trust your horse knows the way. I've been on other trail rides that skip the instruction part and just stick you right on a horse that's not right for your experience level. Circle M Ranch takes the time to make sure you're paired with the right horse and the know how. They also give a cool history lesson of the ranch and allow plenty of time for picturesque group pictures. I'll definitely be back to ride again! read more

What a fun way to spend the afternoon. Don and Travis were great and I liked the fact that you didn't have to travel far to get to the ranch. They teach you the basics of riding and take it slow on the trail. The only recommendation I would suggest is if you're going it's best to wear dark pants/shorts because it is extremely dusty on the trail and your shoes and lower half will be dusty/dirty by the time you get back. Since it was breezy, the dust kicks up quite a bit from the horse in front of you and if you wore a bandana around your nose/mouth (yeah, even Kevin Costner knows this), it would not be a bad idea. We booked and prepaid private horseback rides for four people well in advance, including a minor. Upon arrival, after check-in and mustering with other riders, we were handed a liability waiver that we had never been asked to review or acknowledge during booking or payment. Signing it was presented as mandatory to participate. After reading the waiver in the training area, I realized it required waiving significant legal rights and was non-negotiable, which had never been disclosed during booking or payment. I asked why this document was not disclosed upfront, and the manager explained that their insurance requires it. I explained that if this had been clearly disclosed beforehand, we would not have booked. We declined to sign and left. To their credit, the manager apologized and issued a refund. This review is not about safety or staff -- it's about disclosure. If a waiver is mandatory and non-negotiable, customers should be clearly informed before payment, especially when minors are involved. read more

Loved this experience! I would've never thought I'd ride a horse, but what better place to do so than in Maui! Jackie was the sweetest to my girlfriend and me, she was absolutely 5 stars - encouraging, friendly, and easy to talk to. I will say however, there was one shorter wrangler man that was not so forgiving with riding a horse for the first time - perhaps it would be wise to steer clear of that particular wrangler as best you can. It's nice to be given space to learn and mess up and readjust with a little grace from instructors, especially for first time horseback riding. I can probably say one of the girl wranglers was fantastic, and the wrangler with long hair who gave the instructions on how to get on the horse. I wish I knew their names, but the dude wrangler was funny (though we didn't give him the proper laughs!!) and the girl wrangler was the nicest of them all! Make sure to arrive early and take in the view at the parking lot! The brief is very helpful in teaching you all the basics you need to know and it helps to be confident with your horse. My wife and I visited the Circle M Ranch on Sunday July 6, 2025. It is a 100+ year old ranch that used to be a working cattle ranch. It was awesome! Our wranglers were Yob, Bailee, and Peter. They really know their stuff. They all get 5-star reviews! Yob gave great pre-ride instructions for the riders on how to handle their respective mounts. Yob also gave some ranch history and how cowboys came to Maui. The horses are good trail riding horses and provide great riding for all levels of riding experience. Bailee, Peter, and Yob made sure that all of the riders were safe on the ride. The wranglers provided great opportunities for pictures. Speaking of scenic views, the views from the on-property trails were spectacular and breath taking. If you are going to visit Maui, you have to make time to visit the Circle M Ranch to experience the trail ride. It will not disappoint you. Highly recommend Mendes Ranch! There was a big group of us so I was worried this was going to be one of those basic nose-in-tail rides and I couldn't have been more wrong. They matched everyone to a horse based on their riding experience. We had beginners to advanced in our group. The horses all have fun unique personalities and had no interest in walking in a boring straight line the whole time. My horse specifically was a bit sassy and stubborn but happily would trot to catch up with the group after stopping because she decided she needed a break. The trail wound into the beautiful hillside and we had sweeping views of the ocean. They stopped us about halfway through to allow a chance for photo ops. Towards the end we were given the option to run the horses. We, of course, opted into this. SO fun! Those who preferred not to were able to walk back. They have a beautiful property and amazing staff. We'll be back next time we're on the island! read more
