Every trip I made to the West Coast growing up included a stop at Fatburger. It wasn't just a…read moremeal--it was a ritual. One bite and I was right back to that very first Fatburger, standing in a tiny burger shack with the smell of grilled beef drifting into the street. To me, this is the quintessential West Coast burger, so seeing a Fatburger open in Texas still feels a bit surreal. They're still doing it the way I remember: fresh, handmade patties, perfectly seasoned, piled with crisp veggies and whatever condiments you want--because here, they don't force a "house style" on you. I always get mine "all the way" with mayo, mustard, and a slice of classic American cheese. And yes, I order their XXL because I'm slowly training up for the Triple X challenge I dreamed about as a kid. The fat fries--Fatburger's take on steak fries--still hit the spot. The service is friendly, and despite everything being cooked to order, the food comes out faster than you'd expect. The dining room is small, just like the old shacks I grew up with, but there's extra seating on the patio if you need it. All I can say is this: once you've had a Fatburger, you'll never look back at that other California burger chain.

Popeyes does it so much better and for less money. The thick fries were expensive and tasteless. Do not waste your money here.

Ordered takeout but service was awesome…read more I arrived too early for my order but the kind staff told the kitchen to fire my order and it came out faster than I imagined. I had the burger of the month (cool concept) which happened to be the "the tres hombres" which had the perfect kick w/ those fried jalapeños And the bacon was so crispy!!!! Wife had the bacon mushroom swiss burger which was also good cause it had lots of mushrooms + onions. Tots as an option is chef's kiss. We were def impressed w/ this place. The decor and vibes are very nice, so we def plan on coming back and dining in Grain of salt- parking is a bit hard. So be prepared!

Now that tourist season is over, New Braunfels is back on my areas to eat list. We decided that we would try this on a weekday night. We used one of apps for driving directions to get to this place. That turned out to be the only bad thing about this trip. For whatever reason, it took us on a very circuitous route. If I had known that it was located across the street from Pat's Place, I could have driven straight to it. When we finally arrived, I was not sure it was open. Also, signage was poor, so we didn't see it right away. When we did get into the parking lot, parking was easy, and we were able to get next to the entrance. We walked in and were greeted immediately by the young lady behind the counter. She was very friendly, and finding out it was our first time, she explained the entire process for us. Seeing they had Hatch Chili for the Down the Hatch burger, I knew what I had to have (Have you had Hatch Chili on your burger? Once you try it, you will never go back to typical burgers). My wife ordered the classic burger fixed just like she likes it. We also ordered an order of fries. Our food was made fresh and delivered quickly. The lady that brought our food to the table turned out to be the manager, and she was so nice. In fact, she even gave us a free ice cream for dessert:) Our food was piping hot and made just as we ordered. I took one bite and said I'll definitely be coming back. My wife loved her food too. In addition to the burgers being great, I have to say that the fries might have been the best I've ever had. Seriously! They were just crisp enough, hot, fresh, seasoned well, and nongreasy. After finishing our meal, we went to try the ice cream. The young lady working the ice cream stand was so friendly. She explained how they make their own ice cream and wanted us to try as many samples as we wanted. We decided on the salted caramel as it was so good:) She also told us that they had another location in Gruene, and that we should try it when visiting. Will I return? Definitely - the folks were really friendly, the food was great, and the ice cream for dessert was fantastic.
