Pizza Over Yonder

Pizza Over Yonder

Located just west of Astor on the left off Hwy. 40 this little pizza shop has a lot going for it,…read moreincluding support by the local community. After looking around the area this spot seemed like the best option to dine on some delicious pizza. We walked in a little after 6:00 PM on Saturday evening to find a completely empty restaurant, after a very friendly and welcoming greeting we found a table in the back corner window side. While we viewed the menu we were offered cold drinks from the stand alone cooler located next to the entrance - the canned Dr. Peppers were ice cold and refreshing. The kitchen seemed busy for take out and delivery and the phone rang non-stop, as the orders came in the staff remained totally focus and attentive. We decided on a small pepperoni and sliced sausage pizza, we were somewhat hesitant to get the small but being there were only two sizes available it seemed the right size after being reassured by our server that the six slices were sized right even for two hungry people and she was spot on. After placing our order we were told us it would arrive fresh from the oven within 15 - 20 minutes and that was accurate as well and okay by us. The restaurant soon began to fill up and it became apparent that Saturday night dinner was just beginning, food steadily came out the kitchen while the takeouts continued even as the tables filled - our pizza arrived and it was obvious that this place was a gem and the community loves everything this restaurant is offering. Pizza - a perfect thin crust, crispy but still tender, the sauce was measured edge to edge but definitely not over sauced which I loved. The toppings of pepperoni and sausage was plentiful with great stretchy cheese and all of the ingredients were the perfect ratio and served piping hot on a broken down pizza box -the presentation was definitely a little rustic but effective being it's all about the food here. This is the kind of business you wish was in your neighborhood, there's no doubt they've earned the five stars today...

Raising Cane's Chicken Fingers - The Sandwich Combo

On a recent trip, I had to finally try Canes since we don't have any where I live. I have heard so…read moremany good things about the food here so figured I'd try for a quick lunch while I was out and about. Service was fast and friendly and it looked like a good spot. I ordered the chicken fingers, fries and a drink. Just the standard experience of a chicken shop. It came with some coleslaw and a piece of Texas toast so that was a nice addition. The food was all good. The crinkle cut fries are a favorite of mine so that earns points with me. The chicken was good. Better than some of the other fast food spots but wasn't overly flavorful. The sauce was good. Couldn't put my finger on it but it had a good flavor that complimented the chicken. Coleslaw and toast were both great sides. Overall, I'd give them another shot if I was craving chicken. It wasn't the greatest meal I'd ever had but it was definitely good. I think there was a lot of hype from people I talked to before trying it but in the end, it was a good meal.

I stopped at Raising Cane's for a quick meal after a long day of shopping. I usually consider this…read morea reliable choice because the food is typically fresh and consistent. I ordered the 4 box combo with fries and coleslaw. Service was friendly and efficient. We were greeted immediately upon walking in, and the food came out quickly. Unfortunately, the quality did not match my past experiences. The chicken tenders were small, dry, and lacked that freshly cooked texture I normally expect. The fries also tasted like they had been sitting rather than served hot and crisp. The biggest issue was the coleslaw. After just a couple of bites, I noticed an unusual taste that made me stop eating it immediately. Later that evening, I began feeling sick to my stomach, and that feeling continued through the night. I have had better experiences at other Raising Cane's locations, but food quality and freshness are essential at any restaurant. This visit did not meet that expectation. I can't tell you the exact year when I finally decided to actually TRY the Burger Barn. I honestly…read moreput it off for years, thinking to myself... yeah, sure they're good. It's the only burger place around here! Years have passed, and competition has moved into town... and yet? I'd rather go here for my hamburger crave than anywhere else around. Why? They've never compromised on how they make, wrap or deliver their delicious burgers to you out the window. They are just as delicious today as they were 20-odd years ago when I first tried them and got hooked! How does someplace maintain this? Good management and ownership. Not compromising on quality, ingredients or changing how it has always been done and done right. The same burger I bought from there over 20 years ago is the same delicious burger I buy today. Sure, the prices have gone up, but they have to in order to pay upkeep of your premises, taxes, your staff and the suppliers of everything you have to have in order to run your business. I still remember someone complaining about how much it was for a burger there when they first raised their prices to at least be somewhat competitive with the "Arches" down the street. Look. You can go down there and buy something that someone flipped around, pre-processed somewhat filled with questionable meat or soy protein, loaded with msg and salt, who knows where it all was already made and pre-cooked before it even got there... I've seen the process from start to finish at our Burger Barn. They cook your burger fresh once you order it. If it were made already, it'd be ready for pickup at the window when you pull up to order... sounds like someplace you know? I've got the patience for something fresh, something consistently good and priced a lot cheaper than down the street, considering you're getting so much better quality! So you do you and go wherever you like... me? I'll stick with the best burger in town that's oh so good from the first bite to the very last bit. I thought about that, looking at the bite I had at the end with still plenty of creamy cheese, tons of meat and a few delicious pieces of pickles, onions, lettuce and even a sliver of tomato worked into it! Good to the absolute last bite. It's amazing to me that no one realizes how lucky we are that we have a family owned and mostly run business right here serving quality to our community for how many years now? Anyone know? I'll have to ask them. The window servers may change but the food is always the same goodness it always is. Thank you guys for maintaining your place in our town!!

I did a quick search of the previous reviews to see what everyone recommended. We went with the Super Cheeseburger/Reg Fries and an order of curl fries, service was quick on accurate. Love the ambiance of the Barn. They did not disappoint, solid Cheeseburger without the high prices in today's world. If they are open for get some food and support them. You won't be disappointed!!!
