THE HISTORICAL RINGGOLD DEPOT…read more The Ringgold Depot, built in 1850, is one of the oldest antebellum railroad depots in Georgia. The depot was once used in the Civil War as a supply point for Confederate troops. In 1862, the locomotive, "The General" passed through the depot after being stolen from the Kennesaw station in a failed attempt to disrupt Confederate operations. The chase came to an end just two miles north of the depot. After sustaining damage from Union artillery during the In 1863 battle of Ringgold, the building sustained heavy damage and evidence of the repair is apparent as it is a lighter shade than other parts of the building. I love that this building is now being used for community events such as musical performances (the Christmas show is tonight), weddings, and other programs. It is a beautiful building that has been lovingly restored, (2003). We were very fortunate today to discover a couple of employees in the building who were able to give us a bit of history about the building and how it was used. Looking at the front of the building, you will see two identical doors, the door on the left was used for "colored people" who purchased their tickets and then had to wait outside until the train arrived. The door on the right was for "whites" because it was closer to the train and of course they were allowed to wait inside of the station. The young lady providing this information mentioned that she did not like talking about this racial history and it obviously made her uncomfortable but I really appreciated her honesty and openness. It was priceless! The original doors that lead to the train have been replaced but they are covered by huge sliding structures. These structures were moved away from the door so that we were able to stand on the platform and see what it was like to wait for the train. I was surprised at how close it was. I could have leaned out and licked it! We were also given information on how items, (including the mail) were loaded on the train.

My family and I would guess who you're so I do not know pricing, although some other places that is as much as 4,000. It was transparent and on the website for reference. The owner, Miss Terri, was PHENOMENAL. She provided incrediable custom care and made sure my son and daughter had what they wanted. You are not allowed alcohol unless a licensed bartender is paid for in on-site. Apparently, some people did not know the rules and brought their own. This was threatened with possible dismissal of the venue if it was not controlled. That part of it sucked but is understandable for insurance reasons. The only other thing was once the ladies had finished dressing in the house, they had a tiny window of 15 minutes to get all her clothing, makeup, accessories, and clothes out of there where they would be lost. It was very sudden and in the middle of the wedding party. Overall the experience was incredible. A beautiful barn and venue with a company farm animals on the other side of the fence and a lovely owner that was very accommodating and happy to listen and help us.

We took probably 20-30 minutes inside, then hopped on a golf cart for the guided part of the tour. It ended up taking about an hour to an hour and a half. Our guide was so knowledgeable and made learning fun (per my kids!). If you want to learn a little history in a relaxed and engaging environment, you should stop in here! Keep in mind that most of the tour/museum is outside, so if you don't want to get wet or be too cold or too hot, plan your visit with the weather in mind.

But once we boarded the golf cart on the guided tour with Jody, that all changed. The weather was great, which always helps but the knowledge Jody shared at each stop took us back in history. As a teacher, I appreciated each detail and he (Jody) was always ready to answer questions. The property around the museum is where all of the history took place and Tunnel Hill takes great pride in their local treasure. I was surprised to learn all the seemingly small place had to offer. Kudos to all the people who work hard to keep this place alive. My kids and I had a great visit! I will note that it is more for middle school and up. And it's good for the kids to already have some knowledge about the Civil War. I only rate it one star less than perfect because the displays and mannequins need quite a bit of updating. First off, the retreat is situated in part of the old Crown Cotton Mill, which was built in the late 19th century. It is part of a multi-use establishment now occupying the building. There are apartments, the retreat, and a retail area with restaurants, shops, a convenience store, spa, and other amenities connected. There is a door from the retreat leading straight into this area. What a great concept! First off, be sure you read your pre-arrival email. There are important instructions on parking and how to enter the building. It is self-checkin with a numeric code for the exterior door and another code for your individual room (Shuttles). I was originally assigned to Shuttle 3, but had a slight problem with the upstairs TV. I was quickly reassigned to Shuttle 7 after texting management. You can call or text, but it seemed texting was a little faster. After the reassignment, no issues whatsoever. Management was quick to respond to my issue. Now on to some details. Parking is a gravel lot behind the main building. You will continue around to the back and through the paved lot. The gravel lot is big enough for about 12 or so cars so you should have no issues with parking. The landscape is dotted with old machinery, which was a nice touch considering all the equipment that was used to operate a cotton mill. There is also an outdoor area with a couple of adirondack chairs. You walk down a sidewalk with a few stairs and enter the door. The hallways are lines with period photos. You'll proceed to your Shuttle. The door to the retail area will be clearly marked. Come in, make a left, and it will be on the right. The Shuttle door will have a keypad to enter the code contained in your email. The rooms are absolutely adorable! Mine was a split level setup, with a sitting area with an L-shaped sofa, table, Mini-split AC/Heat, and TV as well as a mini-kitchen area (washer, sink, microwave, Keurig, fridge). This area has a floor to ceiling window. It took me a second to figure out the shade, but it has two tabs on it you just pull down or push up. The TV is a Fire TV with streaming apps, so you can log yourself in. Just remember to log out before you leave! The kitchen area was stocked with two complimentary waters and coffee. If you look up from the sitting area, you will see the loft bedroom. Upstairs is the bathroom and bedroom. The bedroom has a sliding curtain at the head of the bed if you want to close off the loft for some privacy. There is a Fire TV, Mini Split, and remote controlled light/fan fixture. Linens were very comfy and I slept like a bear in hibernation. Bathroom had a barn door and a rather large shower area with a large square shower head. Amenities such as body wash and shampoo were also provided. Unfortunately I only got a chance to peek into the retail area, but it was pretty packed around 7pm that evening when I went to dinner. BTW, there is a Mongolian BBQ place nearby that is excellent! If you have trouble navigating stairs, you may want to call to see if they have any accessible rooms. I would definitely stay here on my next visit to the area.

I would have continued to recommended this venue to the world if they hadn't done me so dirty…read more After reporting some of the issues we had my entire reflection on this place changed. I paid a ton of money to rent this place and a golf cart that was undrivable. The venue is sooo beautiful but it was dirty from the wedding the night before. Liquor bottles, dirty socks, ceremony schedules, etc. thrown in the bushes, in the yard and the chairs were absolutely soaked outside with a mop left sitting on the ceremony chairs. When mentioned to them they apologized and said it's dark when they clean they do the best they can. But what really ticked me off is the golf cart rental. We rented it for $250 and got to back up in it before the whole front bumper fell off because it was missing a screw. Instead of offering to fix it or refund us our money they told us we were basically liable for the charges to fix it if they couldn't themselves like it was our fault... it was missing a screw. We let them know the second we got on it so there's no excuse. I asked to speak to the owner manger about it and Cassidy kept trying to schedule calls with myself or blame us for the issue instead. Completely unfair, and unacceptable especially considering they have no problem holding their clients 1000 deposit if you don't clean up the venue before leaving but don't offer any incentive when you go and the place is a mess... in my opinion they should of either refunded me my golf cart money or came out and added a screw to it and cleaned up the mess that was left for us to clean so it was usable. If they would like to make this right and refund my golf cart money I would gladly remove this post.
