Other than that, the room was nice, had big windows with a beautiful view, the landscaping was so cute, and there was a Keurig in the hallway for guests to make a cup of complimentary coffee. We understand if weather messes up the expectation of a wedding, but what we will never understand is how unprepared the venue was when it came to backup power. Lookout valley is notorious for having power outages, and to tell a wedding party you have no action plan when the power goes out, no backup generator, and that it may be the NEXT DAY until power is returned is 100% avoidable and not to mention extremely unprofessional for an EVENT VENUE. We were told by the owner of the venue that the power outage was "an act of God". This statement was so unprofessional, as the power outage was 100% avoidable if you have a backup generator. The owner did not take any responsibility for their lack of action plan for this scenario. Also, it did not even storm at the venue. If it weren't for my father leaving and going to buy a generator to be able to have our reception, it wouldn't have happened. Your staff was hiding from me and my wedding party - at one point we found the main venue staff woman crying in a closet to escape us...how rude to treat us that way. We also paid you to rent all 5 villa rooms. When we were told the power could be out until tomorrow, your staff did not offer any assistance for those of us staying in the villa. Thank god the power returned around 8:30pm that evening or else we would've had to rent a hotel. The venue villa rooms also did not have any hot water so all of our showers were cold all weekend. The staff was of absolutely no help when shit hit the fan, and I am just in shock at what I saw. At one point, we were going to have to move the reception inside not due to rain, but due to not having lighting outside, and your staff told me they "wouldn't charge me a flip fee" for it. I could not believe they were acting like they were doing me a favor by not charging me a flip fee. If I am being honest, we should've gotten a partial refund. We almost didn't have dinner due to no power in the kitchen. My amazing caterer drove back to her kitchen to cook our food and return. THAT is the type of above and beyond service I expected from our vendors. DO NOT BOOK VENUE.

My only real complaint was that only one elevator was working during our stay, which occasionally caused delays. The location was great for exploring Chattanooga. We don't mind walking, so the 15-minute stroll to attractions and restaurants was no issue for us. We easily walked to the aquarium and dinner, but if walking isn't your thing, Lyfts were inexpensive, around $6 one-way during our stay. We also stopped by the hotel's bar one evening. The drinks were very good, and I loved that the staff embraced the theme. Overall, we had a wonderful stay and would definitely consider returning.

Very clean, well organized facility. There were 4 large restrooms for guests. Lots of nice tables and chairs with linens available. The owner wasn't around much, but seemed nice and accommodating when he was. The Cons: The venue manager seemed grumpy, never smiled, and was quick to say no to every request. She just seemed unhappy to be there. When asked if the flower girl could throw bird seed, she wouldn't allow it because "the next wedding party wouldn't appreciate having bird seed on the ground for their wedding." There were flower petals on the ground from a previous event that we didn't request, but no one considered that for our wedding. She must have been required to stay there the whole time, much of which was spent on her phone. There were a couple of times we had to wait quite a while to ask her a question. Certainly we understood every request may not be able to be met, but there are ways of telling people no that don't have to be rude or unfriendly. It seemed their venue manager may need more training in how to work with people, especially people who are there to enjoy a special life event and have chosen your venue to do so. She definitely needs to learn to smile when greeting people. That would go a long way. We asked to set up two hours earlier than normal and were charged $300 for the privilege, which we paid, but thought that was a steep price. The paid bartenders refused to serve non alcoholic drinks i.e. sodas, water unless it was in a mixed drink. When it was suggested to the manager that putting a tip jar out was inappropriate because we didn't want our guest to feel the need to pay for anything and just be able to enjoy the evening, she just shrugged her shoulders. The tip jar remained. Last call for the bar was made one hour before closing when it was supposed to be 30 minutes prior. Another concern was that we were told if anyone drove and felt they needed to uber home due to overindulging in alcohol, they wouldn't be allowed to leave a car there overnight. I really raised an eyebrow to this one. Being forced to drive when you needed to call for an uber is a lawsuit waiting to happen. So to sum it up, fabulous venue, with a manager in need of some people skills.

Tony and I happened across this lovely plantation style home on one of our drives in the back…read morecountry roads of Tennessee. We had to park and get out and check it out. I was so excited. I always get excited when I find old mansions like this. So when I got home I had to find out some additional history about the home and the site. The mansion property was bought by James Gordon after the removal of the Cherokee in 1836. Mr. James Gordon previously built the Gordon Mill, which served as the first general store in Walker County. With the success of the mill Mr. James Gordon wanted to build a permanent estate and construction began in 1840, but due to labor and financial problems it wasn't completed until 1847 The Gordon Lee Mansion was originally the Gordon residence built by Mr. James Gordon, who with his two brothers came from Gwinnett County, Georgia in 1836 to Crawfish Springs, now Chickamauga Georgia. Construction was started in 1840 and completed in 1847. The bricks used in construction were made on the residence grounds. The walls of the house range in thickness from sixteen inches at the base to twelve inches at the top. Later a piping system was installed to pipe water from Crawfish Spring up to the kitchen, then bath house, then the spring house, and on to the watering troughs for the animals. During the War Between the States, the main house was used by the Union Army for General Rosecrans Headquarters just before the Battle of Chickamauga. During the battle the house became a hospital and reports show that many soldiers died in the house, the floors were so blood-stained they were later covered with mats. Many soldiers scribbled a last message to loved ones on the walls, and the girls of the James Lee family made copies of them and tried to contact families of the soldiers after the battle. Mr. James Lee purchased the homestead from the heirs after Mrs. Gordon's death. He was married to Elizabeth Gordon and was the son of a Methodist minister, and was one of the principal organizers of the nearby Methodist Church later named in honor of his wife (Elizabeth Lee Memorial Methodist Church). Mr. Lee had a school in his front yard for his children and others in the community. The teacher was usually a male graduate of one of the well know institutions of learning of that day. In his will, Mr. Lee donated $250,000 and 15 acres to be made into a high school. Gordon Lee Memorial High School stands proudly today on the very land donated by Mr. Lee. After Mrs. James Lee's death, the house was purchased by one of her sons, Mr. Gordon Lee, who served the Seventh District of Georgia in the United States Congress for 20 years. He completely remodeled the house in the early 1900's changing the double front porch to the present large one with tall, white columns. In 1974, Dr. Frank Green acquired the property and extensively restored and remodeled the Mansion and grounds. Today, the Mansion stands on the hill overlooking the spring just as it did when it was first built over a century ago. The City has recently entered into an agreement to purchase the Mansion and grounds. The admission is just a few dollars and goes toward the historical society to help maintain the expansive property. There is the main mansion with two floors to explore, an outdoor kitchen in the back, a couple of smaller log cabins, a large garden, and a beautiful front yard with massive oak trees. Inside the mansion is about a dozen rooms to walk through. Most of the items in the house are not original, but they are period-specific reproductions or antiques that show off the house as it would have looked over a hundred years ago. It is very well maintained and presented, especially on sunny days when the light beams through the large windows. It only took about fifteen minutes to casually walk through the mansion, but if you come on a weekend and snag one of the interpreters you could be there for hours listening to stories about this place! It has been a Civil War hospital, headquarters, owned by a few families, and the current owner still lives on the property in a private log house! It is an interesting place I would highly recommend as one of those off the beaten path places to visit.
