Don't get me started on the terrible twosome known as the Circle and District Line. Whats that? I have started? Well, I shall continue then.
If these two underground lines were people, they would be the equivalent of a stroppy teenager - mercurial, unreliable, wilful and unhelpful. I'm not an economist (bet that surprises you!), but I find it bewildering that we spend so much on our tube tickets, more so then so many places in Europe, but we have one of the most unreliable underground systems.
It is almost predictable that travelling on the district and circle line will involve a headache element to your journey. I remember setting off to get to London Paddington to catch a train to the West Country on a Saturday morning, and hearing the conductor saying that both the circle and district will be stopping at Earls Court, and not going north. No explanation, no suggestion of alternative transport. I watched all the tourists look confused, and hoped that the rest of the days travel would go more smoothly. I caught the train, by the way - it just involved a lot of running and practically heading to East London to get back to Paddington. I go out of my way to avoid this line, and I would suggest that if anyone has anything urgent that they need to go to, they have a back up plan just in case these lines have one of their funny turns. read more
