Slough is a decent enough train station insofar as stations go. There are toilet facilities, waiting rooms and a cafe located on the main station concourse which wasn't open the two times I was there (Friday evening and Sunday afternoon - fair enough). It's not pretty - it's a train station after all - although I would argue that it's still prettier than the giant Tesco Extra it faces, and could arguably be considered one of the prettier sights when you step into the city for the first time.
If, like us, you are faced with a delay on the London-bound service that you are waiting for, it would be better to walk to the platform and hang out there rather than walk around the area trying to find some way to kill time. For one thing, there are benches, and, for another, there is a Puccino's selling snacks and beverages. On the day I was there, it was staffed by a friendly old man who cracked the occasional bad joke. You also get a biscuit with your drink and that made me happy. read more
