    Qype User (richar…)

Slough station has a place in my life as the place that provided the gateway to my teenage life in the 80s. It was where I went, as a scruffy teenager to visit the High Street, that used to have Owen & Owen (now gone), McDonalds (I think it opened around 1977), Mister Byright (for rude boy clothers), Coopers (magic shop owned by Tommy Coopers brother or cousin) plus first time I went out with a girl, first time I went out for dinner without my parents and also the Saturday job venue for a few of my friends (Boots, WH Smiths and Bejams!) Nowadays I use it a lot as I often stay nearby when visiting our London Qype office. It's functional, pretty easy to use, but very bad for passenger flow, especially at peak times. I also find it particularly depressing when getting the 07:20 to Paddington in the morning and jostle among each other to get platform spot enabling prime pushing position to scramble on board to actually get a seat. That is all.

Great little station with close connections to London and reading cheap tickets for students heading into London :)

Other than that, while it's a covered station (really, it's the bottom level of a parking garage/car park) the sides are open, which doesn't protect you from the temps. But at least it's easy to navigate, and the stands are clearly marked and arranged by direction (e.g., all buses to Windsor leave from stand 8).

They forgot about the basic needs of someone waiting for a bus. The buses are not that frequent...between every 30 minutes to around 90 minutes. A three mile journey to the residential areas can easily take over 30 minutes, plus waiting time. The only shelter is provided to the BUS DRIVERS who have an air conditioned canteen The PAYING COMMUTER gets treated like dirt, that is why they pay a bomb for the so called "service" and have to tolerate THIRD WORLD conditions: NO PROTECTION from wind, rain or snow NO ADEQUATE SEATS NO TOILETS NO WAITING ROOM it's only useful if you are coming from the train station to Windsor or Heathrow where buses are a bit more frequent. For locals it is a taxpayers nightmare, especially for the elderly and disabled, or those with young children, pushchairs or heavy bags. The old station was really ugly This new station is really useless

I didn't realize the Virgin website to book Tristar used military time and booked a 1:45 pickup from hotel for a 6:20 p.m. flight from Heathrow Upper Class on July 30. Tristar arrived at 1:45 AM!! Did it not occur to them (they had the flight information) that most people would not want to spend 15 hours in the middle of the night at Heathrow when Duty Free is closed as well as the Upper Class Lounge? Tristar charged me in full to wait 5 minutes until hotel told them to scram, then charged in full again to come back at 1:45 p.m. No accommodation made for a longtime customer used to booking in person and not used to military time. Even a driverless car would have known something was up with a 1:45 a.m. pickup. Will book a comfortable black cab in the future. Too bad about all the takeaways at Virgin.

What do you do when you have to get to the airport before the public transport kicks in? If you're…read morelike me, you probably booked your flight without even considering getting there at that ridiculous hour, then suddenly found yourself in a bit of a pickle. You see, (at the time of writing) the first Heathrow Express train from Paddington to Heathrow is at 5:10am, if you have one of the first international flights out of Heathrow, that doesn't leave much time to play with, plus you have the hassle of getting to Paddington to start with. With all this in mind, I asked around my more jet-set friends and was recommended Tristar cars. This is no minicab service (which start at about £35), but a chauffeur-driven service that is used by many of the top airlines. Including all taxes, I was quoted about £70 for a 4:30am pick-up in Bloomsbury. This is more than a black cab is likely to cost at that time, but this is more than just a black cab. I booked over the telephone and they were very professional and helpful. I received a confirmation email, so ticked it off my list and started thinking about beaches and flip-flops. On the morning of my trip I received a text message a few minutes before the arranged time of my booking informing me that the driver was here. As soon as I emerged from my door he was out the car assisting me with my luggage. The car was a brand new Volvo (you can pay more for better cars, such as Mercedes S-Class), immaculate inside and out and set up for optimum legroom and comfort. The driver was very polite and was just the right level of professional whilst not being too formal. When we got to Heathrow he patiently waited at the drop-off area for a good spot to become available and helped me with my luggage, wished me well and I was on my way, pretty much as happy and relaxed as you can be arriving at Heathrow at that hour. All in all, I'd say that while it's not cheap, the service is faultless so I still think represents good value vs other alternatives. If I were travelling with a group of people, then it would be my first choice every time and is also a no-brainer if your company is picking up the tab. My only slight grumble is that credit card payments have a 3% charge, but if you use the regularly then you won't need to worry about this as you can arrange an account with them. I'll certainly be using them again, not just in London either, they seem to have most major cities covered worldwide by their network.

To be fair, I stayed here last September, but since no one has written a review yet, I have to…read morereview this place. First off, it is literally the shortest walk ever from the train. Walk up the stairs from the train platform, walk back down on the other side, walk through half a parking lot and you are there. I made a wrong turn, and walked 2 miles to the other Holiday Inn...not the right one. The other great thing that since you are close to the train station, you can hop on the train to Windsor. You will need to hop the train to Windsor, because there isn't a restaurant in site of this place. Windsor is the touristy side, however, if you get there late, like I did, only the grocery store is open- Waitrose. But other restaurants and shopping are there and Windsor castle. The Windsor train only goes to Windsor and Slough and back; no other places. Also icky: at the time, no Wifi. No joke. No wifi. I only had my phone with me, and couldn't get the internet... I can't remember if they had Ethernet for your laptop, but I am thinking no. Double-check on that. Room was clean and modern. This place is fairly new. Shower only. Bed- a little hard. Service was good. Took a taxi to Heathrow, as you would have to take a train all the way back to London and then down to airport. No other transportation. Good: Room newer. Front desk pleasant, a little slow when overwhelmed in the morning. Bad: No restaurants or food nearby; no wifi, no easy way to get to the airport, minus a taxi ride

He is a friendly guy, and we were immediately put at ease. He showed us a couple places around Oxford to get our bearings and then off we went! Blenheim Castle was our first stop. It was jam packed that day because of a car show, but it was an added bonus to see all the vintage Rolls, Ferraris, and a lot of other cars. Gorgeous vehicles! The castle itself is stunning, and the Churchill memorabilia is very interesting. Graham knew all the stories behind the estate, and pointed out the things of interest. We also took a short walk around the grounds because it was a beautiful day. Then he took us to some nearby village for lunch. Best meal of the whole vacay! Afterwards, we drove to the Cotswolds and walked amongst the thatched houses. From there, he took us to another village where we got some candy and then we headed for home. He was very amenable to our schedule, very easy going, and knows the area well. We had such an enjoyable day letting him do all the driving. I highly recommend this tour!
