Fantastic food which is easily the best in town. Staff are fantastic and surroundings are modern and clean. Would recommend to anyone!

Afraid I'm going to have to second that last review…read more Tandoori Night situated upstairs has the feel of a private residence. Slightly odd split level, long thin arrangement that felt cramped even though there was only one other set of diners. Decor is tasteful and contemporary although somewhat let down by shabby tableware. Food was so-so but our family evening was utterly ruined by PUSHY staff trying to 'up-sell' at every opportunity. I expect to be offered poppadums and side dishes as a matter of courtesy but these guys are obviously DESPERATE for business. Soft drinks were served to my children in pint glasses - I assume to bump up the bill. Seriously, what 5 year old needs a whole pint of Coke or orange juice with their curry?! Staff seemed bored - when they weren't trying to push more food they were anxious to clear away our plates and glasses before we'd finished. I guess this intrusive, overbearing style of service may not have been such a problem had they been busier. However, this does not excuse the taking of liberties. Absolute lowlight of the evening was when bill arrived not itemised in any way. Had a nasty feeling that this was a randomly plucked figure as ball park did not feel right. However, we were with my parents who don't like 'a scene' so resisted challenging them to itemise the bill. Sadly, (even allowing for inflated soft drinks charges) a proper tot up of the bill later on revealled we'd be OVERCHARGED by more than 30% ! An honest mistake? Based on service that evening, I fear not. Overall, a genuinely TACKY experience, one I will not be repeating and certainly can not recommend.

Awful!Came on boxing night as we were staying nearby and it was one of the few places open.It was…read moreshabby with old tables and chairs. When ordering drinks we were told they don't serve alcohol yet were never told this when we booked by telephone. When my starter arrived, there was a black hair in it.When I discreetly told the waiter,he had an incredulous look on his face then told me that there is often hair left by customers on the tables,it's not the chef's fault and they follow strict health and safety rules.I said it was embedded in my sauce and it couldn't have been on the table! He then acted like he was doing me a huge favour by saying he'd get the chef to make me another and never once apologised. By this point,I didn't want to eat here as I wasn't impressed with the decor or the waiter's unapologetic manner but thought that as we were on holiday,I would persevere. So,I said I'd like a different starter and ordered the "butterfly prawn"-king prawn in batter. It came with wilted salad,no sauce and was dry and bland. When I asked if I could have a sauce to go with it like a pakora sauce,I was given the same incredulous look and told they don't have pakora sauce,it must be a Scottish thing (I'm from Scotland) and that it comes with the yellow sauce we had been given with our poppadoms. So,I had to use lots of this to try and give the meal some flavour and make it less dry. My fiancé and I then asked for advice about the menu as the Indian food we had in Scotland was different and we hadn't heard of most of the meals. We explained that Indian food in Scotland was very much tailored to meet the Scottish palette and my fiancé asked if he could have the equivalent of a chicken tikka chasni. The waiter said he would ask the chef as he didn't know what ingredients were in it and it may be hard to replicate.I was tempted to tell him just to Google it but resisted the urge. At this point,I was finding this waiter's manner extremely pompous, pushy, and disingenuous. At one point when I was asking him questions about the menu,he kept looking out of the window and totally ignored me,so I had to repeat everything to him. I told him I liked very spicy foods with coriander and green chillies and I also love chick peas in a tangy sweet and sour sauce. He told me he knew exactly what I wanted and advised what meal I should go for,so I went with his suggestions.Whilst waiting for our meals,we were told all about the Indian food in Scotland and the Scottish palette.10 mins later,we discovered the waiter has never been to Scotland, so how he knew about the Indian food in Scotland and the Scottish palette is beyond me!He'd never even heard of chicken chasni! So,the main meal came with a side dish of chick peas and I was yet again disappointed. My chicken was bland and I couldn't taste any green chillies. The chick peas were also very bland with no flavour. My fiancé was also disappointed with his recommendation as it didn't even vaguely resemble a chicken chasni. For dessert, my fiancé chose a toy filled with vanilla ice cream as they'd ran out of most ice creams.I chose Indian tea. So,my fiancé got his ice cream and my tea didn't arrive. The waiter brought out large pots of boiling water and was cleaning kitchen utensils with it.My turn to be incredulous as this is highly inappropriate in front of customers.I eventually reminded him about my tea and he seemed very annoyed at this. When I got my tea,I commented I'd like the recipe.I was told that I'd never be able to make it at home and even if he gave me the recipe,I wouldn't know the amounts to use!I can follow a recipe and know how to divide quantities! When the bill came, it was very expensive,no discount was offered due to the hair incident, then they told us they don't take cards, only cash!My fiancé had to trail to a cashline at 11pm with a bad back injury.Wonder why they only take cash-to avoid a paper trail? They then had the audacity to give us menus to leave at our accomodation and said to make sure we give them a good review. Here it is -hair today, gone tomorrow!Run for the hills!!!

I remember this place having like 7 different types of nan. The cheese nan that I got was good, but I don't really know how much cheese was in the bread. I'm a sucker for a good piece of nan, and this place had some of the best that I've had. I remember this place had a large menu. There were several Indian classics, like Chicken Tikka and different types of masala, but the Bangladeshi influence was also prominent with the various kebabs offered too. I was dining alone, so I got the appetizer portion of lamb tikka. It wasn't very large--seven nuggets of a lamb kebab. It wasn't very tender--maybe just slightly overcooked. But, the flavor was great! Look at it this way, the lack of tenderness actually was a good thing, because it forced me to chew the pieces longer, therefore savouring the flavor longer. The lamb wasn't drenched in sauce, and made for good finger food while I walked. The meal came with a side salad (not so great finger food). The total was 4.60 GBP. If I had gotten a proper meal instead of just an appetizer and a nan (somewhere between 4-8 GBP for main dishes, a couple more GBP for the rice, if memory serves), then I would have definitely been in the ££ range. The place isn't far away from the South Gosforth Metro station. The nan is amazing, the appetizer was unremarkable, but I'd go back to try a main course dish, any time!
