Ealing

Venue is old and in need of a good overhaul. Projection was absolutely abysmal, projector was out…read moreof focus and brightness was way too low. It's a shame that a film nominated for an academy award for it's Cinematography can be so easily butchered by a cinema chain who seemingly doesn't care about representing the artists work true to it's intentions. On top of the subpar projection, lights were left way too bright during the entire movie so it made it hard to concentrate on the film.

Ugh...that's the feeling I get whenever I venture near this place…read more... Service is soooo sloooooow especially as now you often have to buy your tickets from the food counters, so you have to wait ages while people decide what size bucket of coke they want... Once you're in the screens themselves things aren't too bad - sound and vision are generally of a good standard. The air-con is however overenthusiastic so if you're of a chilly disposition remember to take some warm clothes! The sign at the entrance of the ladies warns that "male and female cleaners service these facilities" but I have to conclude that neither had been near them for quite some time...at least four loos were out of order and most of the ones that weren't needed a darn good clean (I guess you have to point a large finger of blame at the manky people who don't know a) how to flush a toilet or b) that any more than about 20 sheets of loo paper is likely to lead to a serious blockage.... Added to the fact it's now damn expensive (£10.45 per adult to see the 3D Christmas Carol film) to go to the cinema I was reminded why I don't often bother these days. Far nicer to stay warm, have clean loos and cheap eats at home with a DVD!

Absolutely worst cinema experience I have ever had. My friends and I had 3 seats together and we…read morewalked into the screening 12 minutes early, and there were other patrons already inside the house. The male employee was inside cleaning alone, and we tried to stay out of the way so he could clean the huge mess in our row. My friend even helped him clean up by collecting trash and putting it in the trash bag. There was chocolate smeared on the seats and popcorn all over the floor. There were people in the other rows and he still cleaned their rows. As he left and more people came in, we realized he would not come back to clean our row. I went outside to ask another staff member if they could come in and clean the seat with chocolate smeared because we had to sit on it (it was a full house). She went and asked him and I overheard him say "well they came in early so I couldn't ask them to move so I could clean, so I'm not going in now because there's people there". The staff member came back to me and told us it was basically our fault for being there early and apparently "in the way". We didn't mind the mind the popcorn on the floor, but the seat was unable to be sat in. She told me we could move to the front, but those seats are priced at a lower cost than what we paid for. We just sucked it up and sat on a shopping bag, but I hope this employee never works a day in customer service ever again.

I love vue cinemas its the only cinema I go to. This is because they always have massive screens in…read morecomparison to other cinemas. They also have lemon sorbet flavour ice cream which I never seem to find in other cinemas. However my fellow Qypers I just wanted to share the traumatic ordeal I experienced at Vue cinema in Sheperds bush screen 6! I arrived into the movie pretty late so i sat near to the front with my boyfriend. whilst watching the movie I noticed a dark shadow move across the cinema floor. At first I ignored it cause I didnt want to jump into conclusions. Not until when the cinema was slightly brightened and I saw a rat yes a rat! running around freely and I am sure there was more than one. I was not comfortable at all as I was constantly watching the floor and not the movie. I made a complaint to the manager and recieved some compensation but that is beside the point. I paid to watch a with my boyfriend not to watch a movie with my boyfriend and rats! So beware Qypers!

Kensal Rise

The have tub chairs at the front, with large cinema seating behind, with drink holders at each seat. There is a really nice bar at the back of the cinema. The sound system is excellent! They rely on volunteers to keep the cinema going, as 100% of their revenue is sent to a charity operation in South Africa. I cannot praise this place enough, and intend to return soon. They also have a childrens club on a Saturday morning.

The Lexi is sexy! Well, as sexy as a cinema can be…read more.. This picture house opened its doors nearly a year and a half ago, but you could easily miss it, as it is an old building and doesn't look like a cinema from the outside. There is one screen, and as well as movies, The Lexi is host to art exhibitions (they recently had an exhibition of John 'Hoppy' Hopkins' photography), music, film festivals and theatre too. They screen a selection of mainstream and arthouse movies, and they often put on special events, such as live screenings of the Royal Opera in New York via video-link. They host regular Q&A sessions (I went to see a screening of Dorian Gray followed by a chat with Director, Oliver Parker) and for those with children, they have a kids club as well as 'scream screenings' for all the yummy mummies with noisy babies (sorry, but URGH! - that sounds like a nightmare of greatest proportions to me...). Plus, there's BOOOOOZE! You can get a selection of wines/beers/ciders as well as fancy crisps, ice creams and plastic bowls filled with popcorn. The movies are always introduced by a member of staff - and incidentally, most of the people who run The Lexi are volunteers, as it is a social enterprise, covenanting 100% of its profits to the Sustainability Institute in South Africa. So, although the ticket prices (around a tenner a ticket) match that of the big chains, at least you know your money is supporting a good cause - so dig deep! The Lexi can also be hired for parties/events/meetings/conferences. The only downside, I would have to say, is that it has always been rather chilly inside, whenever I have been there (I'm not sure if there was something wrong with the heating/a.c.) BUT, they do provide you with blankets, so you can get nice and snuggly! To find out a bit more, you can also read my interview with the founder of The Lexi: http://bit.ly/BRAINtellmel-TheLexi

Watching a film here is comfortable, but could be better, sometimes the air-con can be toooo strong. The sound is also very good as well. The food and drink in cinema as you know is a bit expensive, but i like their popcorn, coz its tastes how it should be and i love their super sized coke. I've watched a numerous of blockbuster this year here, but I was really impressed when they showed the Olympics here for free, although at times it did cut out a few time and we had to wait for it to load. After experiencing the beauty of Westfields Stratford VUE, Harrow VUE needs to fix up Big Time! in terms of decor, plus their toilets are urh!! The transport to get to the cinema is well equipped with the train and bus station very near plus the shopping center car park. I go here because I have to but, if I had a choice then it will be a different story.
