Both Mrs G and I love this place. Each theater is small (even the big one only seats maybe 100 -…read morebut I haven't counted). Add to that the fact that you can book your seats a week or two ahead and so you always get a great seat!! They get all the big movies fresh - often beating the bigger Odeon theaters (like the one closer to us than Red Carpet. First thing that you see as you drive in towards the Red Carpet is the marina with dozens of canal boats that can be rented. On a nice sunny day - arrive early and stroll around enjoying the beauty, a little shopping perhaps? There is also a ice cream shop and two decent restaurants Talking of restaurants the Red Carpet has its own restaurant - I have posted a typical menu - there you can reserve a table for dinner before the show. And yes it has a full bar All in all - and absolute must visit (often). Recently we enjoyed Rocket Man here - twice! And in a week or so The Irishman is coming here (again before the Odeon I believe. This is a really lovely independent cinema. Only 2 screens, one seats 100 people one around 80 but…read moreboth feel really intimate. They show a mixture of current, classic and independent films plus some musical theatre, opera and ballet. Really comfortable seats with plenty of leg room. Pricing is very reasonable with a pre noon price of £4.50 per adult. Only criticism of the cinema itself is the volume of the films could be slightly louder but maybe that's because the last film I saw was The Jungle Book and there was 2 unruly children in the next row! Cafe bar is nice, service is quite slow though and food average, I have only eaten here once but wouldn't rush back. I tend to order a glass of wine and take it into the cinema with me! Bliss!

The theatre itself is nothing to write home about exactly (my mind probably clouded by being a student there and spending hours in the bloody place once upon a time ago), but when you go to a cinema, it's much the same thing you expect - some seats and a big screen. The choice of films here is where it stands out. It screens independent and foreign films, which makes it unique in Stoke. Rarely will a film play at the film theatre that has ever played theatrically anywhere else in Stoke. However, the films are often screened several months after their general release, and sometimes even after they're already out on DVD.

Only one screen though and the seating area is basic, not a lot of leg room. Unfortunately with it being used for lectures most of the time, film screenings are rare with only a handful a week and only a couple of films are screened every couple of weeks - choice is limited and can be a bit slow getting new releases on the screen but the place should be celebrated for continuing to bring the alternative film scene to Stoke as without we wouldn't get to see art-house, foreign and indie films on the big screen locally. The volunteers are helpful and friendly and the pre-screening bar is very cheap.

Apart from peak times, its £5 a film across the board, which is unbeatable value really. If you want to dress up and make an evening out or go on a date, the Cineworld in Hanley or Vue in Newcastle are better options but will cost you more. It has its place.

The Odeon was the main cinema for me when I lived in Stoke, and I was never happy with it. The…read morestaff were always so disinterested and unhelpful, and I can understand why, in a way - as to care about the job there would've been a mountain of stress. The cinema is situated pretty much next to a bowling alley complex, and both of them have arcade games and whatnot. Naturally, this attracts a bunch of idiot teenagers. And when they're maxed out on games, their favourite activity seems to be going into the cinema screens in huge groups and disrupting films for paying customers. I had several film experiences ruined at the Odeon because of this. I'm sure I was not the only one, and the strain of it likely just caused the staff to stop caring. But either way, it's not a pleasant viewing experience for a customer. Buying food and drink there is also ill-advised as it's the usual cinema rip-off. Festival Park does have several restaurants though, so I recommend going to one of those before or after your film. And good luck getting through the film without the worst of Stoke's teens making a nuisane of themselves.

A very large cinema in Manchester city centre, this cinema was previously operated by ODEON, until…read morethey were forced to sell the cinema to rivals, VUE, who now operate the cinema. This location is HUGE - 23 screens, 4,723 seats, and one of the largest IMAX screens in Europe, The cinema is over multiple floors, and the layout can be a little confusing, the staff seem friendly enough and on guard to help. If you require lift access, you will require a staff member to help you with this as they are NOT customer operated. Escalators are available without the help of a staff member. There are lots of screens to pick up and purchase tickets, and there is normally at least one person on the manned desks if you want to use as little technology as possible to get your tickets. There are often cheaper screenings, costing around £4.99 per person, so it is reasonable and affordable, combined with the many offers available from many third-party companies including banks and insurance companies, who offer discounted cinema tickets. Snacks are expensive, but what cinema doesn't charge an arm and a leg for the slightest bite to eat? Not much has changed since the ODEON days, the main difference is the branding around the cinema, some parts could do with a refurb but still a nice, large cinema in a great central city location. 4*
