Considering that it's the closest cinema to my place, I'll usually end up going here, but that's just convenience. The picture quality and the screen sizes here aren't as nice as the other options in Windsor, but it's nothing that won't stop me from catching a film. The place is nicely maintained and not all that old either. This is usually where I end up going to catch a film, but I wouldn't go out of my way to see a movie here if the other alternatives were closer.

We pre-ordered our tickets online and picked them up at a kiosk when we arrived. We also ordered popcorn and drinks which were delicious. We tried the real butter option for our popcorn which was way better than the other butter topping that they offer. This theater is cool because some of the seats have privacy dividers which I've never seen before. These definitely helped minimize distractions from other people. I can't wait to come back here.

Located just off of Michigan Ave in Saline, Emagine combines comfy seats, reasonable prices on popcorn, and plenty of other snacks for a night at the movies that is a real night out. The friends that we went with even got a drink along with their "encore" service, which brought a second drink in the middle of the movie. I forgot how much I enjoyed getting lost in the plot of a good movie, and if it includes pretzel bites and pizza, even better!

It's a fully functioning three-story parking facility that you can access thru the main or side entrance. Please note, it's open to visitors Monday-Friday between the hours of 8:00am-4:00pm. You might think you can sneak past that squirly security guard, but don't underestimate him -or- the creeper parking attendant that lurks in the corner of the garage perched on an arm rest with cat in tow (à la Dr. No), as they'll instruct you to return during regular business hours.

Everybody talks about this place being quirky but you should have seen their old spot! Honestly, I miss the old Burton school, even still. It was kind of an awkward set up, as they detailed in a little film short they ran during the previews directly before and after the move, but it just had charm and style for miles. The entrance from the parking lot was a strange walk around the rear of the building that felt sketchy to many and though they had a lift it wasn't the most disabled friendly place but it seemed like they made do. I loved that place. I saw a lot of movies there. The current digs my sister used to live at back in the 90s when it was a couple of lofts. There's a nice waiting room with couches which CD didn't have before. Adult tickets are $9. It's cheaper for students, seniors, members and kids. Concessions are eminently reasonable. I got a small popcorn and a can of Faygo grape (they were out of Red Pop and Rock n Rye) with my ticket for less than $15. Small popcorn really is small here, though, not like at a multiplex where even the small is like $7.50 and is freakin huge. Cinema Detroit also carries La Croix for all you hipsters, but I won't hold it against them. There's two auditoriums and last weekend I was busy avoiding changing a flat tire in awful weather so I saw movies in both. If Beale Street Could Talk showed in the larger room, which is actually movie theater size. Sit up front if you're short. Unlike at the Burton school, a proper movie theater with a floor that gradually ascends the further you get from the screen, the floor here is flat with no risers further away from the screen. The screen is up just high enough that the silhouettes of people's heads ended for me before the bottom of the picture projected begins, but I can see how more vertically challenged viewers might run into problems here. No tiers!! The two rows at the very rear are tall stools but other than that everybody is right at the same level. It's just a big room that somehow lacks the ambience of a true cinema. That's where the current location of Cinema Detroit loses that fifth star from me. The smaller theater is barely a theater at all but it's so homey and intimate I like it a lot better than the big one. It seats 16 and has mostly well broken in couches. Same deal for shorties, but the room is only 4 rows deep. It's like you have this really cool friend who turned a room in their house into a theater to show off-beat movies. I saw The Wife there. It must have been intense drama week at Cinema Detroit. Both films were very good, but they both packed an emotional whallop. Especially If Beale Street Could Talk. Besides the venerable Detroit Film Theater in the back of the DIA, Cinema Detroit is the only game in town for art house and independent movies. If you're talking 7 days a week, it IS the only game in town, as the DFT's schedule is pretty limited (and they lack a second mini-theater to show multiple films). Beyond that, you're driving out to Royal Oak, Bloomfield Township or even Ann Arbor. Hell, even with all the new businesses that have sprung up in the D the past several years, the Bel Air out at 8 Mile and Van Dyke is still the only multiplex showing mainstream fare in the city proper. And once in awhile Cinema Detroit will show a more wide release movie. I remember they had Black Panther. Go ahead and make an Old Man Yells at Cloud meme about me grumbling how the former Burton school location was better. It had a pool table in the men's room! The row of lockers lining the basement hall still had graffiti from back when it was a school! I still like Cinema Detroit but I just don't go anywhere near as much. My husband and I couldn't remember the last time we had been to this Cinemark (all signs point to…read morepre pandemic?) and I was honestly a little apprehensive about how it would be since a lot of theatres have been falling by the wayside but to my pleasant surprise it's actually still in pretty good shape! Typically we go to another theatre that's a bit closer with some better amenities (a fairly robust food, menu, a full bar, etc) but we came here because it was the only theatre in the area showing a movie we wanted to see. Gone are the days of the giant movie releases where multiple concession counters are open, so parts of the building do feel like of deserted, but it was still pretty busy for a Monday night and there was a bit of a line, though it did move pretty quickly. A lot of it is grab and go (including most hot food), so it's convenient and quick, though the quality does suffer a bit not being made to order (compared to their local chain competitor who delivers your food to your seat). I got the chicken fingers and we split some fries and they were ok. Not great but not terrible. It got the job done. We also split some popcorn which was freshly popped. I'd probably just stick to that and a soda next time. The theatres are clean and the seats themselves are recliners and pretty comfy and in good condition. Projection was good, as was the sound. Commercials/trailers were almost a half hour long which felt a bit like overkill, tho. Over all, it was fine. Not impressive enough to get us to change our regular theatre but serviceable for a visit now and again.

It's not quite a dying mall, but much of the vast expanse of parking lot is crumbling and in shambles. Fortunately, the front parking lot is fine, and as far as I can tell the building never comes close to reaching its maximum capacity. Did it ever? Are there even that many people in Washtenaw county? The inside matches apace with concession stands aplenty. However most sit empty and vacant. The one up front is active and pops the very familiar movie theater style, overly salty corn, smothered in butter flavored grease, for a small fortune. I'm really spoiled when it comes to popcorn. If you can find the White Cat kernels from Indiana, and pop them at home, you'll be spoiled too. But I digress. I did kinda like the efficiency of the concession operation, with the attendants behind the counter getting you your food and drink, and then walking up to the register to pay. That said, the person at the register looked a little dead in the eyes. Can't blame 'em. It seems like a brutally monotonous gig. The theaters themselves are fine. Some are smaller. Some are bigger. Can't say I love the bzzzzzz bzzzzzz of the reclining seats. Can't say I love the IMAX experience either. It's been a long long time since I've seen an IMAX, but I remember the screens being bigger. If I'm not mistaken at one point the minimum size of an IMAX was three stories tall. Perhaps they have made adjustments to the standards in the past 20 years to smooth the path to more screens across the US. Ultimately, I'm glad we have a multiplex in the area. Not everything shows at the smaller theaters in town. That doesn't mean that I don't feel guilty about seeing pictures at the big chain. Perhaps it helps that the experience of Cinemark and their convenience fee for buying tickets online, and all of their pricing shenanigans that try and get you into the Movie Club, fills me with a bit of rage. The bottom line is that Cinemark is fine. Theoretically it could earn bonus points for some of the interesting international films they show, and a few fringe offerings to boot, but the negatives cancel those out. Better concessions and fewer pricing shenanigans would elevate the experience and actually make me want to go there, as opposed to just ending up there when it's the only spot showing a movie I want to see.
