We decided to try this Phoenix theater because we love the Livonia location so much. First of all the building is from 1946 but has been redone to be quite modern. Very very clean. The staff were so friendly and easy to talk to. The experience was really good as far as picture quality and sound. I recommend this theatre and it is now my go to movie house. read more

We like coming to this theatre from time to time to catch some shows. They have heated recliners. The workers are pretty friendly and helpful. $5 for matinee before 6PM shows. There are a lot of parking space on the side and at the back too. This theatre is cleaner than AMCs in the area. read more

The people that come here are extremely obnoxious and ignorant. They also allow groups of teenagers to roam around without any adults and they're always extremely disruptive. If you want a nice relaxing and quiet place to watch a movie I suggest going anywhere else. read more

I enjoy going to the State-Wayne Theatre. It is kept up very nicely. The seats are humongous. They recline. They have heaters in them. Very unique. The prices at their snack counters are a little more reasonable than at most theaters so you don't have to bring as much raw bullion or uncut diamonds to get a few things. They have plenty of powdered flavors. The lobby is very interesting and enjoyable. The walls and ceiling are painted with interesting images. So are the hallways and the walls in the theaters themselves. That's fun all by itself. My favorite is the one featuring aliens. I felt right at home! The parking is ample and easy to get to off Michigan Avenue. The parking lot is sizeable and though it is a little dark in the very back it seems to be generally safe. Just be aware. Plenty of room for turning and such. They could use a little more lighting in the back lot but I think that's more on the city side, I can't tell. The staff is upbeat, friendly and caring. Wow I must say this isn't my first trip to this rodeo... However, it's been awhile..Maybe a year since last time here, we saw Lego. Well my son having visited with his Dad, told me how bomb diggity it has become and asked me to go before today. We usually go to Emagine, because of proximity, however today this place worked due to situation. I must say, I am impressed! Those seats are like oh my so so comfy! Like a lazy boy recliner even better. The aisles wider due to an ability to kick back. Wow again so very nice. I liked this little theater before because of it's character, kinda like stepping back in time with its muraled exterior walls (kinda reminds me of Plymouth Penn theater) old fashioned lobby set up, something you would find in a small quaint town anywhere in the states, but now coupled with the high definition of a digital and super comfy theater it's a win win. To boot they also have some serious good deals, much more reasonable then other places in the area and not fighting the crowd. A true gem of a cinema. A++ thumbs up. read more

The staff introduces the movie (which is cool) Prices are fairly competitive ($26 for 2 large drinks and a medium slushy and a large popcorn) going back. read more

If you like your movie theaters with very shiny floors, then you're going to love Phoenix' State-Wayne theater. Wait a minute ... that's not a good way to start a review. Phoenix' State-Wayne is the smallest of the three theaters in the Phoenix chain, and, from a little research, seems to be the oldest. It's not just small in overall size like the other Phoenix's, it's a multiplex, except it has only two, separate, individual theaters inside. The viewing theaters are very small: I counted only six rows of seats. It makes for an intimate viewing environment, which for the purpose I was at State-Wayne, a date, certainly enhanced the experience. I went with a guy to see "fate of the Furious". Already seen it, but, you know, dates aren't really about what you do with your potential loved one, they're more about getting closer together. So for dating, I'd give State-Wayne a thumbs up; that is if you went on a night like the one I went on: pretty much an empty theater. On a packed night, it could be just the opposite for a date. Here's a quick mini review of "Fate of the Furious": if the "Fast and Furious" series was a video game, and the actors were the game's players, I'd say they started at, oh, about level 5 in the first flick, and now are at level 1000. Basically, the series has run its course and can't get any more ridiculous. The big drawback to a microscopic sized theater is that you don't get that broad, sweeping, cinematic experience as you would in a much larger theater. The sound is muddled and tinny, too. The fake leather seats are very comfortable, and not too far apart so I couldn't get the old dogs up on the seat back in front of me, problem is with the foot rests extended, anyone needing the bathroom has to step over those already seated. If you're hungry or parched, the concessions at State-Wayne are like the other Phoenix's and most other theaters: you could go out, at least, to lunch at them. So, overall, if you'd like to experience a home theater usually found in a mansion, but can't afford it, State-Wayne is for you. About those floors and the general upkeep: still looks like they need a wee bit of a revamp, just 10/7/365 businesses never seem to able to find the time. Parking ain't the greatest, not far from Detroit, bit further from East-Lansing. read more

State Wayne Theater...Small town movie house feel with a BIG boom... Yep, the updated State Wayne in incredible. I'm bummed when there's a movie I want to see not playing there! Yes, it's true!!!! Back when they remodeled and reopened, they had a Groupon special available, which after going one time, I scooped up 10 of them. Lol. :) The sound system and screen great, but the reclining lazy boy style chairs are spectacular!! Talk about feeling like you're at home! The seats are comfortable, clean, and adjust perfect to suit your needs. The concessions seem to be on part with other theaters, and the staff are young and very friendly. This theater is a hidden gem and our go to whenever a movie we're interested in is showing here (3 screens). The theater was built in 1946 and has an interesting history of highs and lows. Thankfully the city of Wayne stepped up to save the theater in 1991 and give us a wonderful alternative to the big box multiplexes. We love the small town character of the experience here. First of all onsite parking is easy peasy. Ticket prices are a bargain at $6 for shows until 6 pm, $8 for evening shows. Can't beat that! Popcorn is fresh and delicious with free refills on large sizes. Staff are always friendly and helpful. The roomy reclining chairs are the coziest in metro Detroit in my opinion! So comfy and much more spacious than the ones at Emagine and Cinemark. My only suggestion is that they dial down the volume a bit as sometimes it can be a bit overwhelming. But overall I have nothing but love for this place :) read more

My experienced is a little skewed, because I came for an a typical event...Rocky Horror Picture Show live! Full of skeevy wretched folks, we attendees are. But the theatre was beautiful inside, the staff were perfectly friendly, given the funkiness of the event. The area is less than attractive, and not much around except divebar. We were here nine years ago and it was sooo creepy. Cob webs in the ceilings and an overall scary, dirty feeling. Fast forward to yesterday, tickets were cheap to see How to Train you dragon 2, so I took the girls. Wow has it changed. It's so cute. The outside and inside walls are adorned with murals and it's very clean. Tickets were $4.50 for adult matinee. Pop was $3.50 with free refills. The viewing room was small but we were the only ones in there so it didn't matter. The seats were off center of the screen but I imagine it's original so why change it. It has that vintage feel with an actual marquee out front. They have a showing of Rocky Horror Picture Show once a month if that's your thing. First of all it is smaller, friendlier and has cool neon. But secondly you'll be DELIGHTED with the surround sound and the extra wide RECLINING seats so comfortable. And they show first run movies way cheaper than Ann Arbor. They have a senior and a child rate both $4.50. Prime time too! Wayne is just a great working man's town. I've been going/coming to State-Wayne for almost two decades, long before the remodel and the addition of first-run movies. As a kid, it was the go-to theater for cheap movies. I've only been once since the remodel, but the change is drastic. Clean, decent seating, great popcorn. Great if you live in the area and don't want to drive out to another theater. read more

Absolutely love this old fashioned neighborhood theatre. My favorite things: The bright lights on the marquee, first-run movies, big colorful murals on the walls inside and out, fresh popped popcorn, and those big super wide reclining seats that go back so far, its almost like laying in bed with a firm pillow just at the right height for viewing......or snoozing. This use to be our go to theater! A few months ago, we planned our whole day around a movie there. We checked the movie times the night before and the day of. When we got there, it was closed. We went last night to see Get Out. Got there and they were having projection issues and we couldn't see it. Disappointed but I understand things happen. We ended up seeing Kong. We were directly next to the theater that plays Rocky Horror and it was so loud it overshadowed a lot of parts of the movie we went to see. How I love my small town theatre! The theatre is small, but I personally like the fact that I'm not packed in a theatre with hundreds of people. They also have some pretty awesome reclining chairs and concessions aren't to pricey. There's always coupons for free popcorn on their website, and oh...how can I forget....they play the rocky horror picture show with props and shadow cast a couple times a month all year long!!! read more

$8 tickets and free refills on large popcorn. The marquee is very old-fashioned and restored with beautiful, flashing lights visible from half a mile away. The interior is nicely remodeled with leather, reclining seats and lots of elbow room. Much smaller than big chains, there are only 4 theaters with each seating about 100. read more

I was highly satisfied with my visit!!! The reclining chairs were sooo comfortable and spacious. I was able to move the arm rest and cuddle with my other half and enjoy the movie. First time herr yesturday to take my girls to see Paddington. Very impressed with the renovations. Picture and sound quality was great. Loved the power reclining seats! You could hear the movie playing next doir, that was a bit annoying and the concession prices I thought were a tad high. They didn't have a kids thing so we had to buy a big popcorn and share it. The only thing that isn't perfect about this theater is that the screen seems slighted tilted to one direction, but that's more than tolerable with such comfy seats. read more

I have been going to the State Wayne since I was little. I remember when they use to have live entertainers appearances. I miss he big theater. With it being divided into different theaters one can Hear the other Movie if it is loud and is very distracting to me. In the positive, they have the most advanced screen and projects compared to MJR and Emagine. The other thing that keeps me going to MJR is that the State Wayne does not have a bonus card that keeps you coming back. At MJR after so many times you go there you get a free admission ticket, or popcorn or beverage. I Highly suggest that State Wayne starts to do that. State Wayne has a coupon on their site, but you only get a small popcorn if you buy something from the concession. read more
