This theatre has been around and the most unique aspect is its comfortable leather recliner seats that are well-spaced apart. Just reserve near the front rows for the big screen experience. The theatre visitors are sparse and tickets can be ordered online ahead of time, before pickup at the gates. The screen is bright although it has a slight reflection during bright scenes. We do enjoy the convenience of coming to this theatre. This spot does have its quirks including the iffy restroom reviews & age-insensitive horror flick poster near the first auditorium. But all-in-all I'll be back for another movie night.

My mom religiously…read morewrote down his recipes with a blue pen in her Sunlife coiled notebook that the company used to give out yearly. She'd then make these recipes. It occurred to me recently that maybe my punny nature and love for good food happened because of this man. I'm glad. Stephen Yan kept a low profile for roughly thirty years. He was lured out of British Columbia by RetroKid. They did a collaboration on Wok with Yan clothing and merchandise. They also held a meet-and-greet event a few Saturdays ago at The Royal Cinema. Here's what I don't recommend doing. The night before, I attended a Billy Idol concert. I did a lot of walking and dancing. I had to get up early to get to Little Italy by 10 am for this event I felt it all, but it was worth all of it. I parked in a small Green P parking lot off Clinton Street, which was steps away from this venue. I then had to line up to get into the theatre. Organizers did a great job finding our names on the list, getting wristbands based on the type of ticket and perk package that you had ordered, and getting the proper t-shirt size and branded chopsticks that you desired. It was great. Staff were helpful. I needed to use the washroom. Washrooms were upstairs. It's an older theatre, so it's a flight of stairs up. The washrooms were clean and surprisingly spacious. We could sit wherever, except the VIP area, unless you were one. I was content in my comfy chair. Pay Chen, a local foodie, welcomed us. She provided a summary of Yan's accomplishments and introduced Steve, co-founder of RetroKid. I love the merchandise that this company creates, from Sesame Street, to Stephen Yan. This event allowed us to buy Wok with Yan merchandise before it went public to the world after the event. Yan was introduced and got quite the standing ovation. It was great seeing him. He can still talk up a storm. He was his usual punny self. It was nice to hear what he has been up to. I was thrilled to be there. Afterwards, we could meet him and get a photo taken with him. He didn't do autographs. The lineup was long. I didn't mind the wait. My legs were jelly from the concert. I spoke to a staffer just before we hit the stage. There were steps, but no handrails. My legs were so tired that I asked if he could be my support as I went up the stairs. Yep, they were that heavy. He didn't mind. He was thrilled that I saw Billy Idol and had a great time. I met Stephen Yan -- the legend. A staffer took my phone and I got to spend a brief moment with him. He greeted me in Cantonese, asking how I was. I responded in Cantonese in the same language. The moment was magical. He was everything you hoped that he'd be. He was warm and welcoming. He was funny. He was kind and compassionate. The woman took photos of us in a hug and in conversation, and in a few poses. I shared my story of my mom and I watching his shows, and my mom jotting down all his recipes. He seemed genuinely touched and asked how my mom was. Very Chinese. Incredibly cool. I did buy some merchandise. I got a t-shirt and some buttons with his punny sayings on aprons. It was highly organized. You basically checked what you wanted on an order from. I didn't have a pen, so I asked to use a nice woman's pen who was sitting in front of me. She asked me if I was Yan's daughter. It was such a weird question at first. It was quite flattering in hindsight. You basically wrote your name on the order form and paid. I used a credit card. I then waited patiently for my name to be called. I got my order and was happy. The place had overstock on Wok with Yan chopsticks. I ended up getting another pair. Yay! I have a set. I like that you can get hot food, cold beer, and snacks at the concession stands. I saw someone with a hot dog and popcorn while I was waiting to meet Yan. The selection of wine, pasta, sardines, St. Viateur bagels, and more was impressive. You can actually dine on the patio here. It's a charming theatre. It now has a special place in my heart. Which is called Empire Theaters - Elgin Mills by the way, but no difference - same place. Screens are sort of small, but it's cozy and smelly and perfect for a back row make out sesh.

We were greeted by our server, Marek, who remembered us from the last time we were there to see Wicked for my cousin's birthday. Marek took our orders promptly and he even remembered what we had ordered the last time. We received excellent service from him and he went above and beyond expectations. When we came out of the movie, we went to the bar to have a drink. The servers behind the bar were excellent and they made us the same Lemoncello Milkshake we had the last time. Unfortunately, I didn't get the bar servers name, but she was working on May 3 at around 5:30 pm. As well, Marek saw us and asked us if we enjoyed the movie. It's so nice to see young people who take pride in their jobs. Kudos to Cineplex for hiring such wonderful employees. Have enjoyed VIP many times and will definitely be back!

This was my first time back to these theatres- actually any movie theatre since the end of 2019 and Covid. What surprised me the most was how the lobby area has not changed at all, out dated games, cold unwelcoming entry, same self serve counter and 1 person standing at a kiosk to take your tickers before you get to the ridiculously expensive concession stand. What annoyed me the most was paying $52 for 2 kids and 2 adults and then $75 at the concession for: Combo w/ 2 regular drinks, large popcorn and 1 candy - $27.99 2 kids combos at $10.99 each (smaller trays) 1 regular popcorn at $8.75 (smaller bags) 1 pack of candy $6.77 First of all, the fact that what they call a large popcorn now is a JOKE! This same bag used to be wider and much more popcorn! Same with the regular size. No more free refills, although people were freely walking over and refilling. This is insulting considering the cost of a large drink is $6.75. I will never return to a theatre and purchase anything from the concession stand. The popcorn was stale, the pop was flat and the bags of candy, I can get those at Dollarama or Walmart for $2.50 per bag. I did expect it would be expensive, but I did not anticipate that everything had shrunk in size for drinks and popcorn. Makes sense now why it was so empty there. Not even worth it to collect Scene Points anymore. There was 10% off the concession which is a thing of the past since the program got revamped during Covid. I was really hoping that since Covid that there would be improvements considering the movie theatres took a huge hit during the lockdowns and closures. We enjoyed paying $6.99 to $24.99 ordering home premieres at home and buying our own snacks. As a family of 4 movie night was costing us under $40. At a theatre it's ridiculous to pay $125. With these prices they have made their money back tenfold. Movie was amazing, easily 5 stars for me. The only reason I gave the theatre 2 stars is I love the idea of choosing my seats in advance or when I pay there. I don't have to worry about rushing to catch a show if I pay in advance. Will I go back? Yes, fun with the fam. BUT I will be there bag in hand with my own snacks and happily seeing movies at Markham VIP because I can choose my seats in advance and not worry that if I'm late that all the good seats are gone.

Roxy theater is a gem in the world of big box stores and mega movie theaters! I watched The Hobbit…read more3 over the holiday season, and was delighted with the service. First off, if you're looking for a 10 screen, 5 showings each hour place; look elsewhere - the Roxy has only 2 screens (multiple titles alternate in showings). But "quality, not quantity" is the result. The Roxy reminded me of how a night at the movies use to be: * reasonable prices - $10 regular ($7 matinee and Tuesday's) * no price gouging concessions. I got popcorn and a drink for under $10 * intimate showing (seating for 100 or so) * old Hollywood motif in the lobby. Though the Roxy has the old Hollywood charm, the technology is not lacking. The interior is up-to-date, and it's screens & sound are on par with the big chain theaters. I applaud you Roxy as you bring charm back to the Silver Screen experience!

First time was caused by a fire alarm. Second time the show stopped twice once midway and once at the very end due to fuse resets. This time they had trouble finding our pre-booked e-tickets in their system. Yes, you do get the same comfy reclinable sofa seats, and a smaller comparative audience in the theatre. They do have reasonable prices at this time, including Tuesday night $5 tickets with $5 large popcorn specials. However some seat arms show visible signs of wear, and the bright vivid screen has a bit of a noticeable glare that I've not seen at larger theatres. Skip it or hit it? We'll be back for a movie night based on value although it's a bit dicey and we noticed all subsequent shows were sold out on our latest visit.

While the theatre isn't as big, I feel it is certainly much more comfortable and a better experience than IMAX seats from a larger chain like Cineplex. The staff has been consistently friendly. Once I left my phone in the theatre during the last screening and the mall was locked, and I couldn't come in to get my phone. We gave them a call. The staff found the phone and even brought it out to me!

I think that is ok though as I don't like getting hearing damage at a theatre. Concession stand is standard about average price at a theatre. I went here to watch Avengers End Game a 3 hour movie and was comfortable the whole time. Only improvement would be to have the emailed confirmation be your ticket so you don't have to print one at the terminal. Just to save paper and a bit of customers time. That's just me being picky.
