They charged my (from our of province) mother $18.62 for a small pop and then me $18.62 for a small pop and two bags of candy. We realized after that the girl probably charged my mother for the items I was holding in my hand even though we were checking out separately (I am 44 years old so it's not like I was a kid). We didn't get issued receipts at the counter but we figured it out after we checked our card transactions. This is not okay. She should have realized when I put my stuff on the counter and charged me what she had done. I contacted the customer service and they kept disconnecting us before we even got to speak to anyone. I hope they try to rectify this, after getting disconnected a few times, I contacted the main guest services for Cineplex and have not yet heard back. read more

So dirty. I know it's tough to clean between movies, but there was so much crap on the floor when we sat down. Every step crunched. I did inform a staff member, but at that point, what could they do? If you don't have enough time to clean.. give more time between showings. Also rolled in three huge bins of overflowing gabrage before patrons left the theatre. One star for decent location One star for the staff who actually looked like she felt bad when I mentioned the food and dirt. read more

I find it curious that I'm writing a negative review about a Cineplex Odeon multiplex. I mean that they're a chain and it should be about the same anywhere you go. I live in Edmonton and I've been to four different multiplexes there. There are the standard gripes... the mark-up on pop and popcorn is criminal, all kinds of charges for "extras", and making you pay more and more for anything that might beat a big screen home experience, but that's standard for the industry. And they wonder why fewer of us are going to the movies any more. My negative reaction to this place is their "you have no choice but us" attitude. That means lines that are much longer than is acceptable and service is slower than molasses, both for tickets and for concessions. Current releases can be two hours or more, plus up to twenty minutes for the commercials and trailers you're forced to watch. Making you arrive an hour early to buy tickets and overpriced snacks is truly unreasonable, especially when it's not necessary. The multiplexes in Edmonton don't do that to you, and it's a city that's ten times larger than Red Deer. A few more self-service kiosks, more box office cashiers, fully staffing the concessions and some process and customer service training for their staff would be all it takes, but I have the real impression that they just don't care, because nothing changes. read more

I went to see the new Spiderman, I initially went in at 5:00 pm with my 40$ travel rapid test paper and was let in. I bought two Ultra AVX tickets at 48.59$, for a 10:30Pm movies. When I arrived I showed my Alberta health travel test once again, I was refused access to the theater because I don't have a license. Worst part they didn't even allow me in to return my tickets. I am 16 I don't need to show any form of Identification for a PG movie, I told them I don't have a license, a Passport, nor a student id card. I told them I was already allowed entry at 5, and they told me to fuck myself. Overall very poor customer service. read more

Scene Points are now of little value! I've been collecting Scene Points for a few years now via charges on my Scotia Bank VISA. For every dollar charged on my Visa I receive one Scene Point. My wife and I enjoyed this perk as typically the cost in going to a movie at the Galaxy Cinema can be criminal. Sadly Scene Points have been dramatically deflated in value. Our last visit to the Galaxy Cinemas was eye opener. Initially the cost in Scene Points for a movie was 1,000 points and one could receive a concession combo including two medium soft drinks and a large popcorn for 1,000 points. My wife and I attended most recently to see the media hyped blockbuster Avengers End Game. Imagine my surprise when we learned that each movie admission would cost 1,250 points (if we had chosen the 3D movie we would have had to redeem 2,000 points per admission). Gone are the days of a concession combo for Scene Points, now one must redeem 500 Scene Points to receive $5.00 off your concession choice. When we entered the theatre I had 5,006 Scene Points accumulated on my card, after redeeming points for two movie passes and two medium soft drinks and a large popcorn I had 6 Scene Points left on my card. Now remember, in order to accumulate the 5,000 points on my Scene Card I'd have had to of charged over $5,000 on my Visa. My conclusion,...Carnival Cinema here we come! read more

Hooray! Red Deer's got a gigantic Cineplex... and it seems to be the place that everyone goes on a Sunday afternoon. Either that, or the parking lot isn't big enough to hold all of the theatre goers. Finding a place to park was a bit iffy! But finding seats to go see Skyfall? Not so bad. If I lived round these parts, I'd imagine I'd be as excited to see this theatre as when I lived in Millet and the big theatre opened up in South Common. It was a big deal! But as far as Cineplex theatres go, it's pretty standard... well, this one on this day was a little less than standard. Don't get me wrong... the process for buying tickets went well, the concession was stocked, each of the employees did as they should have. But, 3 of the automated kiosks we tried were out of order. How can this be? We didn't try the last one. Instead, went directly to the main counter. For a newer theatre, I'd expect those self serve bits to be in working order. And if you're directing ppl to the main counter on purpose... why have them there at all? read more

I dropped my 16 year old, my 14 year old and her 14 year old friend off at this theater. I received a call 5 mins, later and my daughter told me they were being I.D. because the movie was 14+. (My daughter is taller than me, close to 6ft.) So I returned to the theater with their health care cards...the guy told me they needed photo I.D.? Are you serious? My kids are good, and were not causing problems, just waiting to see a movie like everyone else and this guy I.D.'s them? Then their father and mother bring a their health care cards and he says they need photo I.D? The movie wasn't even rated "R"..thanks guy, you really earned your pay cheque tonight! read more

Cineplex Theatre's are generally quite nice, but this one doesn't stand out. I'll be the first to recognize that I didn't go there at a busy time, but that was my intent. When I was there I was given cold popcorn that seemed to have very little butter. I don't understand their custom of bagging popcorn and then leaving it to essentially cool in those cabinets. I want fresh popcorn especially when it isn't that busy and I can see fresh stuff under the hot lamp! Popcorn doesn't cost very much, I know it's wasteful to get rid of the old stuff, but maybe you guys should optimize when you're popping the corn for the freshest product. The pop I received was also kind of flat, so I was less than impressed by the concessions. The theatre itself was quite clean and well run. The bathrooms were well kept and the theatre itself had nice seats without any garbage. The screen and theatre volume were to the standard you expect from a movie theatre. Honestly, being an avid movie goer I expected a bit more from this theatre but what I experienced won't stop me from going back as Red Deer doesn't have a whole lot of choices... Oh yeah, if you go here a lot don't forget your Scene card or sign up for one for free because you get 1 movie free every time you see 10 and you also get 10% off of concession purchases. Tuesdays are their cheap night, so either go early in the day or very early to the show to essentially see movies for half price. read more

This theatre is a god send to those of us who grew up with the old Uptown and Park Plaza theatres. I waited my entire life to have a place like this to watch movies without having to go to Edmonton or Calgary. It's sad that the old theatres are gone but I had to endure a lifetime of bad experiences there... from carpets so sticky that they crunched when you walk on it, to leaky ceilings, shows that were sold out for weeks on end. I am so glad I get to watch movies at this theatre when I go to Red Deer. It seems like there is not one bad seat anywhere, even when you're in the front row! Totally worth driving to gasoline alley, but then what other choice do you have for first-run movies?? read more

Now that I'm living in central Alberta this is our go-to place for movies. It is located at the south point of Red Deer situated beside Costco. It is a big theatre but could and probably should be bigger. Was there last Saturday and it was RAMMED! There isn't much to do in the area so lots of people flock to the movies. I like how they have 3 options to get tickets, normal counter (which is always busy), credit card touch screen machine thingy and my new fav using the Cineplex app machine where you pre-purchase your ticket with your app and use this machine to print them off. I believe there is only one of these machines and once people start figuring this out they probably need to put in a few more. read more

The theatres is well maintained and ran, only issue is the service at the Outakes concession stand. The ticket times need to get shorter and the people need to show like they care a bit more. read more

I've never had a bad experience at this theatre until tonight we get our tickets and get in our seats, it's thanksgiving so there's about 6 of us total in the theatre (usually they clean the theatre before they even let you in to sit) they come in 10 min before the movie and kick us all out so they can clean the theatre? Shouldn't that have been done before we were allowed to be seated? Not to mention they were grumpy about it like it was our fault! Kinda petty but super annoying. A monopoly in wealthy Red Deer where they gauge because they can. I do however appreciate being able to see the vast selection of films available. Another nuisance is the extensive line ups for tickets and treats, almost like if you don't come 35 minutes early your either going to be late or barely just on time for your expensive flick read more

Used to love going here, but since they changed the line up situation from getting your tickets at one of the 10 concession tills along with your treats to making you stand in line for tickets at 1 0f 3 tills, then back in line at one of 10 tills to get popcorn and treats, I have lost total interest and now I am planning to go to Carnival, where they have done a lot of upgrades and have a lot less hassle read more

Do not go to!!!! You will show up over an hour early for your movie and be standing in line until its out. Stood in line for 2 hours to reach the front and them to tell me my movie was sold out no signs no announcements you will waist your life away if you try to go here for the shittiest movie theater experience galaxy takes the trophy. read more
