Alamo Drafthouse Cinema Crystal City is a 49,000 sq foot, 9 screen modern cinema, with the luxury of food and drink service at your reclining plush leather seat. To place your food order, use the QR code for the menu, make your choices and press the convenient built-in server call button to summon the server to take care of your order preference. For food, I prefer to stick to plain popcorn to consume in the dark, anything else would be distracting. A big plus is their enforced strict policy against talking or texting during films. I wish more cinemas would have the same warning given at the start of every film. The Alamo Drafthouse has a premium auditorium featuring an enormous 66 foot wide screen laser projection with immersive Dolby Atmos 52 speaker surround sound which really packs a punch. Thankfully, we wore our earbuds, or would have experienced some hearing stress or loss. ***Do arrive 30 minutes early to get your food and drinks orders in, thus to avoid being interrupted during the movie** Enjoy!

Going to see a movie at the theater is expensive now but it was worth every penny in 3D. We decided to go on one of the 50% off days so instead of $25/ticket, our total came to about $21 (convenience fees are waived for Stubs Premiere) for both tickets. My only minor complaint was that the escalator was blocked off and not working so we had to take the elevator. Parking is also validated at the self service machine on the main floor in front of the snack bar.

Located in Arlington's Courthouse area, it is literally just a hop, skip, and a jump from the Courthouse Metro station, making it incredibly convenient whether you're coming from DC, Alexandria, or elsewhere in Northern Virginia. Although it's a smaller AMC, it still offers a solid variety of movies and showtimes, so it never feels limiting. The staff are consistently friendly and quick, whether you're picking up mobile concessions or scanning your ticket to head inside. The theatres are always clean, everything is in good working order, and the biggest upgrade is the reclining seats. Every auditorium has the comfortable recliners, which make even the longest movies much more enjoyable. The lobby also has a few claw machines, which are a fun little distraction if you arrive early. Overall, this theatre combines convenience, comfort, and reliable service into exactly the kind of moviegoing experience I keep coming back for.

The theater could use a slight refresh, but I kind of appreciate that it still has some of that old-school character. The theater is spread across three levels--three screens on the bottom floor, two on the main floor, and three upstairs. The auditorium we were in was one of the smaller ones, so there really wasn't a bad seat in the house. Staff was friendly and service was quick. One thing that really stood out was seeing a staff member cleaning the theater after the show. He made a point of thanking customers for coming, which was a nice personal touch. Concessions are pretty much what you'd expect at a movie theater. We grabbed chicken tenders, popcorn, and a drink, and of course, the Coke Freestyle machines are always a nice bonus. You must park in the garage (not in the outdoor lot or street parking). They had a machine to validate the parking ticket at the guest services counter, and we were covered for the full three hours. It was easy to find the theater. We took the escalators up and found the kiosks parked right outside the movie theater entrance. They had multiple kiosks in the hallway where you can buy your tickets and order food in advance. Once you enter the theater lobby, there's even more kiosks set-up. There was even extra lobby/lounge seating if you want to enjoy your food and drinks outside the theater. (Note: this is for the movie theater food, not your own - outside food and drinks are not allowed.) There's another bar dining area and additional theaters (9-14) on the upper level. Reclining leather seats have become the norm at most movie theaters. But LOOK raises the bar with heated seats AND buttons to adjust the headrest. We are living in the future here! But wait, there's more. They have swinging trays attached for a "movie-dinner" experience and QR codes on said seat trays to scan and have the food delivered right to your seat! You can also order at the concessions stand, but it's just not as fun (though there is an 18% service fee tacked on... call it a built-in gratuity for the door-to-door service). Brunch items are served before 2pm. They also have alcoholic beverages for that adult dining experience. We ordered popcorn and a soda and one of their brunch items - Chicken and Pancakes! The popcorn and soda were brought directly to the seats within five minutes. The chicken and pancakes came about 30 minutes later, while the movie had already started. We actually thought they had forgotten about the chicken and pancakes because there was no acknowledgment of the order being worked on when the popcorn was delivered. Several other people received their food items throughout the movie (the staff have little flashlights and will make their way to you). It can be a little distracting, but it winds down as most people will be watching the movie instead of ordering more food on their phone. People ordered pizzas, bowls, chicken tenders, burgers, etc. Instead of the movie theater smelling like popcorn, it smells like a restaurant (primarily of hot fried foods). This can make you hungry during the movie and might make you want to order more food. I was tempted to order fries during the movie, but I opted to keep my phone away and enjoy the movie. At the end of the movie, four giant trash cans were near the exits and they were overflowing. Good for the theater for making all those concession sales, and good for the audience for cleaning up after themselves. We sat in Row D and I did find the sound to be a smidge too loud. Some scenes in the movie were a little pixelated. I'm not sure if that's due to me sitting in the fourth row (too close to the screen) or if that's more on the movie studio. Restrooms were okay... generally clean, which I would hope since we were one of the first screenings of the day. I will note that the sink water pressure wasn't great and some of the sinks didn't seem to work. But overall, this is a nice movie theater experience if you're looking to indulge, kick back, relax, and enjoy the show.

The food options were mostly the same. However, the beverage options were much lower quality, especially for the wine they had on offer. I ended up just getting a beer since the wines were such low quality. Overall, we had a nice time. My kids loved the movie but it was just a much lower quality experience, especially compared to Georgetown or an Alamo Drafthouse.

Have managers not just hang out (hide) somewhere. How about for the 1st 1/2hrs of a $19 movie, with $15 popcorn, they hang in the actual theater, and check in a couple of times, to identify people who are disruptive in any way..? and ask them to be polite to everyone trying to enjoy a movie? Nahhh... I know... that's crazy talk. Expecting someone to be polite in public. Or a manager to be proactive to ensure ALL guests enjoy the show. Back to Netflix and Streaming for me. But I have friends in Ballston and it also helps that compared to AMC Courthouse there's a food court in Ballston Quarter offering more food variety. The Regal in Ballston feels contemporary when you're in the theatre and dated when you're outside of it. There's not really a ton going on and there's a lot of big space between the theatres. Wish there was some decorations of upcoming films or something the main lobby where the concessions are has more character but also feels very limited and the lighting is a bit meh. But the theatre itself is good. It might not be my first pick for a theatre given Regal isn't a chain i usually see movies at but Ballston Quarter as a whole is just a nice spot overall that it's hard not to kill two birds with one stone.
