It was our first time going to a movie theater in Kingstowne, Virginia and Regal Kingstowne movie theater. We splurged at got the most high end movie experience we could have: RPX admission with recliners to see the Devil Wears Prada II . The comfort of the black leather recliners were satisfactory but not the best experience I had in other movie theaters. The other movie seating areas in this theater location did not have recliners and cost less for a ticket. The service was good. The place was clean. The two tickets with a Diet Coke at 7 PM cost us about $50. Yet, we hardly go to the movies. We went to see a matinee movie over a year ago at LOOK Cinema, a luxurious movie experience. What is RPX? And is it worth it? The online definition: RPX, or Regal Premium Experience, is Regal Cinemas' premium theater format designed to offer better visuals, immersive sound, and enhanced seating than standard theaters. Screen & Projection: RPX screens are larger than standard Regal screens but smaller than traditional IMAX screens. In many locations, they feature high-quality digital projection with 4K resolution. Sound System: RPX theaters use Dolby Atmos or a proprietary immersive sound system, which delivers deep bass and enhanced surround sound. Seating Comfort: RPX seats are plush, recliner-style chairs with more space than regular theater seating. Movie Compatibility: RPX screens support 2D, 3D, and high-frame-rate movies, making them versatile for different genres. RPX is designed for those who want a premium experience without the massive screen size of IMAX. Matinee movie on a weekday is probably more economical and less crowded. If you love watching movies at Regal, getting membership for a year of unlimited movie passes for $26 a month at all Regal Movie Theaters. Unfortunately, it does not include RPX experience. Overall, I liked how close the movie theater location was to our home and that it was the best movie experience I could have at that theater. The movie was excellent. The theater was peaceful and quiet. There seem to be no one else in the RPX theater room. Parking was free , spacious, and in front of the movie theater. Made the mistake of giving this theater another chance today. We walked into the theater and it was HOT and muggy like the air conditioning isn't on. We asked about it and we were told "I'll ask my manager but that theater never works right". So if you want to be brave and give this location a shot, avoid theater 16 unless you like your theater seats moist from humidity. read more

Great location and staff, but the theater itself falls short. I came here on Valentine's Day. And quickly realized that. this location doesn't quite measure up to other Regal theaters in the area. The Good: The location is perfect for a night out, the wine selection is a nice touch, and the bathrooms were notably clean. The staff is also very friendly and professional, which I appreciated on a busy holiday! The Not-So-Good: * Seating: Very uncomfortable--there is no recline, which makes for a long sit. * Timing: The trailers didn't even start until 30 minutes after the posted movie time. * Popcorn: Even after requesting a fresh batch, it wasn't great. The kernels from the warmer had a weird black residue on them. * Audio: Once the movie finally started, the sound quality felt a bit flat and lacked that true surround-sound immersion. It's a convenient spot for new movie availability, but if you're looking for the full "premium" cinema experience, you might want to head to one of the other nearby Regal instead. This is not the newest theatre but it is close and gets the job done. We used atom for tickets and regal app to pre order concessions. The app for concessions is a game changer. No more long lines. Free parking, multiple restrooms, easy to get to. Overall a win for us. read more

Had a great time at this regal! Was able to see Toy Story 5 in ScreenX which was really interesting. The movie shows on scenes on the sides as well to provide a full bodied experience. I hated every minute of being in this theater but I had already paid. I went to go watch spider man and it was the worst experience ever it was so hot in the theater and people were talking the entire time as well as recording the screen with the flash. I had left the theater to go get something and I also complained to the worker and she told her manager but when I came back people were still talking the entire time and recording the screen. The 5 -Stars is for the young lady at the Counter who helped us get our tickets (no front ticket office, closed) - the Kiosk was a pain ( I am older) so went to Counter. She handled it professionally & very patient. We went ahead and ordered popcorn & soda (Combo). Okay, now the rest of the review - Movie prices are out of control - it was today (Tuesday) Theater was pretty dead (1.10pm) showing. Even with the discount Tuesday offer, 4 tickets & soda/popcorn combo was $60 - standard seating. Theater is older, seats are okay, screen & sound was good. The commercials & previews were terrible- 1.10 show did not start until 1.40 - I remember when I would be excited about future movies- not one preview made me say "hey, I cannot wait to spend $60 on that". Still the closest Regal to my place. Not fancy but decent. I agree with other posters that it could use an upgrade. They have no staffed ticket booths. A 1pm movie actually starts closer to 1:30pm with 13 minutes of ads before the previews even start. No wonder people don't go to the cinema anymore. read more

Saw a movie in the RPX theater. Leather recliner seats with great sound. Pricey but we enjoyed the movie. Seats are badly worn and need replacing. Purchased our tickets via the app. I loathe paying the convenience fee when it's added at the kiosk or at the register ‍sooo it's just a fee for everyone. They don't give free upgrades like AMC. Overall it costs more for a lesser quality experience. Only the 4dx theater is truly worth a Regal movie trip imo. read more

Wow, there were 20-30min of commercials a few sad looking previews and then our movie. Didn't pay money to watch car adds!!! Theater was overly cold, and loud. No human for ticket sales... and 2 of 3 machines were broken. Had to buy a ticket at concessions, note he was nice, competent and helpful. But the number of adds got to me. A 340 movie that starts at 410 is not what I paid for. Add to that the inconsiderate people behind us and I'm done going here. read more

Breakdown of my four star review: I ordered my tickets through their app hours prior. Added the tickets to my wallet for quick view. Upon arrival to the theater kiosk, I went through the motions to pick up my tickets. However after 4 plus terminal fails, all kiosk said to go to ticket booth for help. It was a Tues night and no human at the outside ticket booth. Decided to walk up to concession stand for help, the clerk was helpful even though they thought I was purchasing new tickets as I think he was not understanding my concern about being able to print out my pre purchased tickets. He then shared you will have to come to concession stand to redeem your online tickets since kiosk won't register it. " I was like, "hmm strange but ok." Now, tickets scanned, food bought and headed to the screen. I walk inside to the RPX room to see Dune 2 and was really impressed with the seating style and chair comfort. At first I was not impressed with the sound quality as previews were playing. My thought was, I thought this was suppose to be a top notch viewing with sound and picture quality. As soon as Dune started, it was full blown surround sound that you would expect. It literally was the best sounding "all around" surround sound that the other screen types do not offer. I will honestly never want to watch another movie in theaters unless it offers RPX viewing! Hand down. I use to go to AMC theaters and believe me, they can't touch regal with RPX features. So as of this day, regal will be my number 1 choice for movie theaters and RPX. read more

Look, this theater was really nostalgic but things need to change, meaning there has to be greater changes, better uses of tickets, I can just get in and no one would notice making spending money on my ticket feeling useless. Better management on the theaters, meaning we went to see the Minecraft movie in RPX and the theater was HUMID LIKE WHAT WERE THEY THINKING! Nope, nope, nope! Never again Its 2023 and this is one of the most outdated movie theaters in the area. I paid $40 for 2 tickets. They still have the old school seating. The bathrooms are pretty yuck, I'm 99% sure the toilet seats haven't been changed since they opened. Well, you have to give one star right? I spent $50 on tickets to come see a movie. My friend had a stroke before the movie so we were unable to attend. I have my confirmation and can prove that they were never scanned. I stopped in Kingstowne regal 16 today to see if I could get a voucher to see a movie now that he is out of the hospital and recovered. Their answer... No... I should've reached out sooner. I'm sorry, we were a little bit busy with cardio, rehab and daily trips to the doctor once he was released from Fairfax Hospital. Movie theater needs a MAJOR revamp! The last couple of times I've been here within the last month have been horrific. First time the movie started playing and the lights of the theater were fully on and the curtains were not opened all the way. Multiple people (including myself) had to leave the theater and point out to the rude manager. I missed a good 10 min of the movie because of this . Second time, movie started and there was no audio, are you kidding!!? Won't be coming back, Springfield is not that far of a drive anyways, and it's a MUCH better cinema. Overall this cinema is pretty outdated too. The chairs inside the theaters are not comfy and they look pretty dirty, so does the carpets. The bathrooms have a wallpaper that looks like it belongs in my grandmother's house. As far as the movies goes, they do have the current ones but most are very limited on the showing times. BLUF: The special SX theater is ripoff Went for an evening movie on a Saturday night. Arrived an hour before the movie to buy tickets to find the box office was totally empty. Five terminals and not a soul in sight. Went inside and couldn't find anyone either. The police officer standing in the lobby said "they should have told you to go to the snack bar." So, we go there and the tickets are a lot more expensive than they should be. We are told "It's a special SX theater with 270 degree screens.". Well, what a crock. In a 160 minute movie maybe 2 minutes projects on the side screens, and it's just a blurry extension of the regular screen. Don't waste your time or money here. Update: I contacted Regal Theater customer service about my complaints. I ask for refund based upon their false advertising of their theater. I was told the only way to get a refund is if you leave a movie within 30 minutes. That's a perfect excuse for them. How often is it someone will say "Gee, I finally found a time to go out to a movie with my child, and now that I'm here I think I'll leave, write off tonight as a wasted night, drive all the way home and try and find another opportunity to do it?" On top of that I kept hoping for at least 30 minutes to an hour that maybe they might actually start using the supposed 270° of screen they'd promised. Been to this location dozens of times over the years and figure I should review. The parking situation varies depending on the day but if you can't park under the theater you can park out in the open (where I park usually). The ticket prices are also varied if not a little more expensive than other theaters. Theaters are usually pretty clean minus a sticky floor or two (typical for most theaters though). Sound and picture quality are solid every time so no complaints there. They may need more self service kiosks though since they only have three and did not see any cashiers last time I went. It's a reliable place to see a movie and then adding seat reservations makes it that much better. read more

How fun to be in another state and go to the movies in the middle of the day! We went to Virginia to visit a friend and decided to go to the movies in the middle of the day. We got there and had to purchase our tickets inside. We had a little snafu with the automatic machine however the magic came out pretty quickly and fixed it. Poor Regal - it keeps getting worse year after year. Cleanliness is an issue - sticky floors, dirty bathrooms. Concessions and ticketing are (still) slow. You can now pick your seats in advance. I would assume that all Regal Theaters would have the same quality of seats, but it's disproved by this theater - about as comfortable as Frontier Airline's seats. So. Not comfortable. read more

Decent theatre but man they need to step up how often they clean the auditoriums. Every single one that I've been in has had these extremely sticky floors, worse or better depending on the aisle but it feels like they only clean the floors once a week. My wife and I love coming to this theater over the many other theaters in the Alexandria/Springfield area. The theater never seems to be too packed, which is nice because we can always find a good spot to sit. The lines never seen too long at concessions and the theaters are clean. The seats are also comfy too. You can't ask for a theater with a better location either. There are tons of restaurants to chose from, you can go to a sit down or something quick, either way, it's the perfect theater for a dinner and a movie date night! read more

I've been coming to Regal Cinemas Kingstowne Theaters for probably 10+ years now and unfortunately it has slowly been going downhill. It used to be the "fancy" theater and was definitely a treat to go to, but now it's so meh. While it does have RPX (which is actually pretty impressive), if you're going to a showing of a movie that didn't just come out, the care put into making sure everything is working properly isn't there. Recently, I had an experience where the volume wasn't working properly, even after the previews finished and the actual movie was starting, and it was actually far too quiet. You could literally have a conversation at normal volume, no problem. We brought it to a worker's attention, and they actually ignored our request to take a look at it. I had to escalate it to the manager, which shouldn't have to happen. They also claim that they have reclining seats, which is not the case. The seats aren't very comfy. :( Lots of parking available - they have a large parking lot next to the restaurants and an underground parking lot for the theater. Overall, Kingstowne theater is just fine. I'll obviously still come here because it's so close for me, but I wouldn't recommend going out of your way to go to this theater. read more

40 minutes to an hour or previews is unacceptable. It was by far the longest I've sat through. I saw the 20th anniversary of LOTR Return of the King extended edition. "Start time" 7:00pm. We got out past midnight. Moreover, the previews were all dice commercials and role-playing games featuring adults in halloween costumes. The popcorn was also cold. That said, it was amazing to see it on the big sceen, the seats were comfortable, and the staff helpful. I was disappointed to start the film so late at an otherwise nice venue. With ticket and snack premium pricing, this extended advertising was inconsiderate. read more

I haven't been to the movies in YEEEEAAARRRSSS. But Frozen II came out and I said what they hey. I took my 6 yr old niece and my 14 month old son. They have this thing now were you can reserve your seat when you purchase your tickets. That may not actually be new, but I hadn't been to the movies in awhile so I was impressed. The lady beside me purchasing her tickets had never seen it before either so I didn't feel alone. The line outside was sooo long, I went inside to the kiosk to buy my tickets. Skipped the line and went straight to the movie. Parking isn't bad and the movie theater is in a shopping center, so after the movie or before, you can grab something to eat. We've been to this theater many times before and have had as good an experience as most theaters. However, when we went to see Black Panther on 11/11/22, the air conditioner wasn't on in our theater. It was very warm in that room. I went to speak to the manager with some other random patrons. He came back and said he had to recycle the unit and that it should get cooler in 20-30 minutes. We suggested he make that announcement to the other patrons that had filled all the seats in room #9. It got a little better, but not much, and the movie was over 2.5 hours long. My son and I enjoyed the content of the movie, but felt clammy and disgusting when we left. The management should have offered some voucher for a future movie, free beverage or some other way of apologizing for the crappy conditions. read more

This is a nice theatre. I went on a week night with a friend to see "A Quiet Place". Theatre was clean, nice seats and quick concessions. Clean bathrooms. The only bad part was guy that thought people wanted to hear his commentary on what was going on (SMH). Hey Kingstowne Regal .... wtf. This theatre is disgusting, I know it's busy today and a Holiday but there wasn't a lot of effort being put in to clean the place even at the minimum level. Our shoes are sticky and soaking wet from a spill in our row, and we had to find our own straws behind the counter. The lines as long as Disneyland rides to find out you don't have Large popcorn is a bummer. the projector has a blue tint to it as well, not worth the $15 tickets.... My first experience here was so terrible that I vowed to never return. Nothing however could keep me from seeing the new Bad Boys movie in its opening weekend and of course, all the other (better) theaters had no seats available to accommodate my party. So, out of nothing other than desperation, I decided to punish myself by going here again. If I can make a suggestion, just one (maybe two): HIRE NEW MANAGEMENT or if management is not the issue then GET A NEW OWNER. RPX is Regal Cinema's new IMAX type theatre experience. I'm not one to pay attention to pixel quality and whatnot but it's pretty amazing especially during the 'Wonder Woman' scenes in Themyscira. But... this place is still as uncomfortable as ever. They advertise reclining seats but the chairs recline about an inch back. I felt like I was in the back row of a United Airlines flight. At over $15 a pop for a ticket I'd expect a little bit more back support. At least their air conditioning seems to be working now. read more
