I honestly can say that this is THE BEST MANI/PEDI place I have ever been to (unless you count the $300 splurge pedicure I was gifted in London once). It is amazing how detailed their pedicures are. My feet are truly cleaned and taken care of. The polish is the icing on the cake, but go for the really excellent foot care. I can't believe how little other places do in comparison. And, they use and pride themselves in high quality products. Additionally it's a very above-board operation where the staff are treated respectfully and professionally. It's super clean and has a nice energy. It's not too fancy, but that's not to say you won't run into some local folks who have notoriety. Mostly, it's excellent work done by good people. read more

I have been going here for years but in the last few it's declined a lot. It's expensive and I used to be ok with that cause the quality was good but every time I have gone to get a pedicure they have actually hurt me. I have a high threshold for pain and have tried to give them the benefit of the doubt and gone back a few times, however each pedicure resulted in cuticles being ripped from mi nail and the corners of my nails being clipped far past my natural line leaving them raw and angry. I just went today with a few members of my family and each of us left with our toes really tender. We have all officially sworn off. Update, my right big toe is in horrible condition. It is swollen and so so tender from having them rip the sides of my nail off. They actually created the worst ingrown I have ever had. It actually really hurts to even wear shoes now. I'm so disappointed. They used to be such an amazing spa but this is had happened every time I've tried to give them another chance. The management practices here are very poor and continue to get worse. They used to publish prices, but now don't. Why? Only AFTER I had my feet in the tub, I was told that my nails were thick and it would cost $10 more. They are the same nails that I had last year and the year before. I was told that it takes more time, yet I was rushed out in less than 1 hr., with a smeared toenail (they put on my shoes), and callouses. I gave my husband a couple of gift certificates for pedicures (same price as mine), and he got rushed out in 1/2 hour, despite the manager telling me that men's feet take much longer. The good pedicurists I have had here in the past have all left (no surprise) and the quality and transparency of pricing are zero. read more

This goes for the service here , the lady is extremely rude and she makes me pay before getting my nails like I'm going to run away or something . Ok and in between getting my nails done she goes and works on other costumers like i don't have anything else to do. Charged me for gel when I only got regular nail color. She told me I can come back another day and she'll fix it. I mean I know it's Mother's Day but if you have stuff to do or somewhere to go don't take it out on your costumers Oh and be prepared to feel pain because she drills the file into your nail. An oldie but goodie. I worked in the area yearssss ago and would come here for a very expensive mani/pedi. I was in the area a couple days before New Years & figures- my nails are a hot mess- can't enter the new year like that! So- I drove in & was pleased that they were able to take me stat. I was undecided on color- but there's tons of colors- you can probably find something. Minus chrome, they're not that trendy. I was pleased with the special attention they payed to my cuticles & dry skin around my nails. They also have the drill that sands down your dry feet. The massage is generous & makes you wish they had full body massages available (they don't) but overall I felt I was #Winning. Here's where the -1 star comes about: They had a purple/lavender color on the fingertip color wheel with gold brush strokes... making it look artsy, different, fun. About me: I LOVE GOLD. I HATE PURPLE. but- similar to when you're so hungry you don't know what you want to eat- i was so tired I couldn't commit to any particular color. Ultimately I chose the gold/lavender brush stroke example. Bc, why not? When it came time to apply the gold, no one knew how to do it so it resembled the example fingertip. Like, lol, really??!? Well, we tried a few times- even switching out brushes- maybe it was the bristles? Nope! To make matters even more undesirable the color purple that was used as the base was Barney purple- not lavender purple. The folks at Cindy's nails offered to change the color- but at this point I didn't want to cause more work/time for anyone, self included. Plus- a new year is upon us & one of my resolutions is "don't sweat the small stuff". New Years has come and went- and I am proud of myself for not dwelling on my Barney purple nails. :) Price Point: $100 total including 20% tip for a gel mani and regular pedi. read more

Okay my review before is 5 stars, just wanted to add more. Okay one, Cindy's does get especially busy so make an appointment! Or if you have extra time you can just go there. From my experience there are certain times that are perfect time to go, like an hour before they close, mid morning, and lunch time. I did try 3 other nail salons to see if they can match Cindy's. Think they did? Not even close!! The other salons don't compare to the perfection here. I hear some people complain about the prices...hate to break it to you. You get what you pay for, you go to a crappy place you get crappy service. Never have I gotten a bad mani or pedi...also get my eyebrows waxed. Absolutely flawless every time. I hate posting negative reviews and really only do this in extreme cases. This weekend, my pregnant wife was in a car accident on El Camino in front of Cindy's Nail Spa. Someone rear ended her car and then fled the scene-- hit and run-- some people are so irresponsible. Anyway, she pulled in front of the Cindy's Nail Spa to avoid blocking traffic on El Camino. After the police/fire left, a male who appeared to work at the spa came out and told my wife in an aggressive tone that she had to move her car because it was in the driveway of the business. Given the traumatic experience my wife was going through, this was icing on the cake and totally unnecessary. I have no idea if Cindy's Nail Spa does a good job with nails, but I would consider one of the many other highly rated nail salons in the area given the way they handled this situation. Lastly, if anybody reading this happened to be at the spa and saw the accident or black/dark blue pickup truck that stopped in front of the spa before fleeing, please message me. Pretty clean place, Sarah always does my nails and they're fairly clean and efficient - new files and they shape your nails very well. I'd recommend the pedicures because they do a good job buffing your feet to a baby soft feeling. The only qualm I have is that I don't know how sanitary their tools are - they don't come in the sealed sanitized packages like Burke Williams Spa in SF or Santana Row. read more

I've been coming here for a couple years for pedicures and the staff is always friendly and efficient. Their hours are great, the building is well lit, parking is easy, and they usually keep the front door open so ventilation is good. I have a different technician each time, and they all are consistently careful and thorough. The polish lasts a long time. They are especially good at working on rough skin and calluses. My sister, mother, aunt and I had been going here for 7 or more years. My mom regularly tips very well and we have been nothing but nice to the women and manager that work there. Since their other location closed, they've gone down hill. We went in without an appointment and the woman scolded us and embarrassed my mother, a very loyal customer who was recognized by name and face by both the owner and the manager. Her husband who managed the other location that we went to sat there silently. This was after months of looking for new places. He does not treat his girls well. This was clear as many of the women that worked there for several years were no longer working there. I just went to Cindy's, and my nails started chipping the day I got them done. The experience was overall bad. The nail technician was very aggressive/rude and did not do a good job. The sides of my nails were not filled in with polish and they only did one coat of color. Their pricing system was also so subjective (they charged $10 extra because my color was "new"). When you spend $50.00 for a mani-pedi, don't you expect top notch service!? I came here since it is located near my boyfriend's apartment and I was in desperate need of getting some much needed pampering after having a hectic weekend back at home in southern cali. When I first walked inside, I thought to myself, ok not what I expected but it's decent so I went forward and requested for a regular mani-pedi. During my treatments, I got cut on my toes and they were rough my my finger nails (ouch!). One of my manicurists kept on accidentally touching my wet ails and had to repaint them a few times. They kicked me out of my chair almost immediately after they put the last coat of polish on my nails to seat another customer - and I don't mind this, but the fact they sat me next to the HUGE COLD fan (it was a hot, sunny day in the south bay so I was wearing a tank top and shorts) really annoyed me because I was freezing and I kept on trying to get their attention to possibly turn down the power of the machine, but they were apparently too busy to listen. I wanted to leave right then and there but one manicurist insisted that I stay so that I would not ruin my nails (understandable), but I was so upset and stressed by the whole experience I just paid and left. I consider myself a nail salon connoisseur ( from the high end salons to the little hole in the wall shops) and this my fellow yelpers is at the bottom of my list. read more

Well, I'm off to get a pedicure this morning and unfortunately it won't be at Cindy's. On my last two visits I was pushed out of the pedicure chair as soon as the clear coat was done so that they could seat a walk-in. If they had a comfortable area to sit while they were drying, that's one thing. But the first time I was asked to sit on their extremely uncomfortable bench with no back and if you did try to lean back you'd go through their window. The second time they put me right in the path of traffic... feet in, feet out, feet in... you get the point. I understand they don't want to turn people away but Cindy charges on the high side for a pedicure so I don't expect to be treated like cattle. And when I did complain to Cindy that this was the second time in the same amount of trips, all she did was apologize. Really Cindy? After being a loyal customer for 5 years, you couldn't offer a small discount to ensure I'd be back? Well you didn't and I'm not. read more

I had a bad experience with Cindy's Nail Care. Cindy's was recommended to me by one of my undergraduate students; and, recently, I started having my nails done there. Overall, I enjoyed my visits. However, due to the way I was treated by one of the owner's today, I will never do business with the salon again. On previous visits, I discussed with Cindy a special nail service I wanted, but the salon had never done before -- seashell nail tips. I told Cindy I would pay for or provide the seashell flakes (though she offered to obtain the materials). When I called this afternoon and asked for Cindy, the man who answered the phone identified himself as Cindy's husband, told me she was not in and to call back on Wednesday or Thursday (today is Sunday). Right after, I decided to phone again to set an appointment with Cindy and figured I would ask her husband more about the seashell service. After trying to ascertain whether or not he was familiar with the service, rudely, he said the salon did not provide the service, told me I could go somewhere else and that he didn't care if I did so. It never fails to amaze me how poorly many small business owners handle their customers, especially those in services where repeat business and referrals are a major source of sales. The few times I had been to Cindy's, I received compliments from several women - and men - on my nails, each of whom I referred to the salon. Just last week, I discussed with colleagues booking with Cindy's several special nail events for staff and students. Now, I will no longer recommend the salon and will take Cindy's husband's "suggestion" to take elsewhere the nearly $200 per month I was spending on pedicures and acrylic/gel nail services. read more

Sad to say, I once was a Cindy's fan, but the last experience was so bad I will not go back. I had an appointment but still had to wait nearly 45 minutes past my time because they continued to accept walk-ins even while I was waiting. Once seated (in a massage chair with a broken control) I was asked to soak my feet in cold water and waited another 20 minutes before a technician was ready for me. While I waited in the chair I couldn't help but notice the woman beside me, whose toe was bleeding and she was commenting on how much it hurt. The spa ladies were quite rude to her and made no effort to apologize or make amends. Clearly the spa was overwhelmed but yet they continued to accept every walk in that came. When it was finally my turn the pedi technician rushed like a mad woman to get through my nails and as a result, I too wound up with a bleeding toe. The mani technician was also in charge of the telephones and the check out/payment, so she jumped up 16 times during my mani (yes, I counted). I find this ironic because I was seated across from a 'no cellphone' sign asking clients to maintain the spa atmosphere. This spa experience was chaotic, loud and highly unpleasant. The mani tech was so distracted she only filed 9 of my 10 digits. Her rudeness was so extreme I didn't ask her to finish and did it myself at home. They completed my mani / pedi in less than 25 minutes yet I was charged the same as I usually pay for a full 1 hour treatment. The quality was terrible and 3 weeks later I am still mad and my toe is still tender. I have never been offered water or tea, though I see other clients are. Maybe the trick is to go in off times, but clearly you do not get any guarantee of quality even with an appointment. read more

Girls, I hate to be the only dissenting opinion here, but I absolutely cannot give this place a full five stars. I had a mani-pedi here today, and yes, the pedicure was very nice, but nothing BEYOND what I would expect out of a spa pedicure. All the people there are very nice, friendly, smiley. The manicure, however, was a bit brief, and all in all, I didn't think they're particularly meticulous about my nails. They're filed a little crooked and at uneven lengths. My cuticles weren't pushed back or trimmed or had anything done to them. And even though my manicurist commented on my dry skin, it would have been nice if she complemented that with an extra bit of lotion or something. Oh, and they do NOT accept American Express. Overall, the employees' attitudes are awesome, but the actual nail service is nothing remarkable. Simply put: I've had better. And if this really is the best place on the Peninsula, well, I guess I'm just going to DIY my nails from now on. read more

Cindy's has moved!! Look for their new location a little further down El Camino toward Redwood City and they also have another location by the Cal Train station in Menlo Park. As for the service, the ladies who work on your nails always seem to be so happy. I've had a number of them remember my name from one visit to the next. The manicure / pedicure chairs are fabulous. My manicures usually last close to two weeks, but my pedicures last FOREVER!! I got my toes done in early December and they are still just as pretty as the day they were done, and it's been six weeks. The whole experience is wonderful and relaxing. Leg and hand massage comes with the treatment, and the technicians will carry on a conversation with you - or not - depending on your preference. I've seen men here too, so Gentlemen, don't be shy. During the holidays, they give all of their customers a Christmas CD and a calendar. I highly recommend a gift certificate for Valentines Day!! read more

I really can't recommend anywhere where I get cut. I came here for a pedicure, after having read reviews. It had started off well, until time came for cutting cuticles/nails. While doing the cuticle trimming I was in some discomfort, and trying to ignore it, until I felt a sharp pang of pain. Looking down, sure enough my toe was bleeding and she was putting on the antiseptic or whatever to cover it up. She asked me how long I'd wanted to keep my nails, I told her not too short, more on the long side, but she clipped practically into the nailbed :( To top it off, she kept abandoning me to re-do a manicure on a client who she had attended earlier. Granted, it must be annoying to have to re-fix a nail 3 times (really, the woman paid, left, came back 5 min later because she'd smudged opening her car door, left, came back again because she smudged again, and did it...again) but that's not an excuse to take out your frustration on my feet! Inside looked nice, and it's in a convenient location, but really, there's no excuse for the job I got. read more

$30 for shellac manicure...and there are LOTS (over 20) colors/shades to choose from (my only request is to try to get brighter colors, more non-reds and -pinks, and also more pastely colors). The gel and polish was applied smoothly, not too thick and with care - they don't rush through it - you won't end up with those ugly bubbles (but please pay more attention to making the polish more even near the cuticles!). My shellac has been on for 1 week and 3 days so far, with no signs of chipping whatsoever. And I do a lot of dishes and digging around my purse. I LOVE SHELLAC. While getting my nails done I was watching a lady get a massage right in the middle of the room, after her mani/pedi, that lasted like 20 minutes. The place itself is roomy and pretty comfortable, and easy on the eyes. The seats that you sit in to get a mani are plush, like mini couches. The only thing is you need to sit on an extra pillow or you'll feel like you're sinking into a black hole. read more

I called Cindy's Nail Care today, and the male who answered the phone provided very poor customer service. I normally get nail fills at Dianne's Salon in Portola Valley (Kathy is amazing!), and they charge me a negotiated price based on what my previous salon used to charge me until their nail lady left. I had to cancel my nail appt. yesterday due to unforeseen circumstances, and thought I'd give Cindy's Nail Care another try because I got a great pedicure there in 2009 and they are open on Sunday. The asking price at Cindy's Nail Care is $35 for an acrylic refill (outrageous price!), so I asked if he would be willing to meet the price that Kathy charges me. His response was that they can't do that, then flippantly said that if I want that price I should go to San Jose and practically hung up on me. What's wrong with negotiating a price? I've never encountered such a snobby response from a salon. If it was nonnegotiable, then he could have simply said, "I'm sorry." My husband, who's a caregiver, and I (a teacher) live with/care for a senior in Portola Valley, so we are basically "The Help", and are considered middle class. Obviously, this nail salon is only for the upper class/rich. This man needs to learn that their business will only be successful if they can consistently provide good customer service to not only existing customers, but potentially new customers - regardless of what price they try to negotiate. I know I will NEVER recommend this nail salon to any of my Peninsula friends or our senior clients. read more

I had a full service experience today at Cindy's and am so happy to have found my place at Menlo Park! I did both gel mani (with Danny), gel pedi and waxing afterwards. This is the place that offers full flexibility - they will always find time for you and if you have a busy schedule like I do I value it the most. The quality of service is great - clean, quick and there is a good attention to detail. Love that now I can do my waxing and nails at the same place once in a couple of weeks and don't need to think of appointments, calls, rescheduling and travel time to different locations. read more

Went in to get my gel nails removed and it was an awful experience. Instead of wrapping each nail individually like most places I've been (no smell, same amount of time), they soak your entire fingers in chemicals - the bowl is right under your nose for about 15-20 min while they scrape your nails again and again. I had this done 2 days ago and my fingers are STILL dry from the chemical soak. Can't image how bad that is for you. The ambiance was awful - I was sitting in a room that was basically the "break room" where they were chatting the entire time. All I wanted to do was read a book and feel a bit pampered for 30 min but that was not in the cards. I guess the only plus was it was cheap - $15 for the "express" manicure - yes, I opted to leave as soon as possible! read more

I've never had my nails "done" before, so my first nail salon review of all time is bound to be biased towards naivete. The salon was busy (a good sign, I presume) and people were friendly. They do seem to do a good job with shaping your nails and the manicure lasted about two weeks. Customers sitting in the pedicure chairs seemed to be very content, and I got the feeling that Cindy's has acquired a number of regular clientele. I found the traffic off El Camino to be distracting, though, and the lady taking care of my nails sneezed several times off to the side because her hands were holding polish and utensils and such... All in all, a decent experiment for my fingers at a great price ($15). I'm willing to try this a few more times and provide updated, more knowledgeable reviews. read more

This past visit will be my last. The rude lady spilled nailpolish she had dropped all over my new shoes without a sorry. They also use LATEX gloves here without asking/caring if anyone is allergic. It is the only nail salon i go to. I have tried so many but always come back to cindy's. Their attention to detail is better than all the places I have tried in the area- and my pedicures last forever! That said, yes they are a little on the pricey side ( but nothing like T.O.E) and yes sometimes they scold you a bit-and they aren't super warm/affectionate -but who cares? If you need that go get a hug from your mama/friend first, suck it up and enjoy the drill sergeant manicurist and maybe you need a little bossing around in your life. You will walk out with gorgeous and carefully done nails by people who take pride in their work. Oh and even though they say walk ins welcome , just call and make an appointment for goodness sake.
