While primarily an online sales warehouse, they have a remarkable collection of deadly and beautiful insects embedded in resin, cult artifacts, medical instruments and artifacts and oddities such as two-headed chicks...if you're into this sort of thing you'll understand. But wait, there's more! They charge a $5 admission, fee (refundable with purchase) so you can shop and take in the small museum. If you've ever wanted to preview burial you can even take a mercifully short coffin ride. This place is a really interesting stop.

My husband elected to stay in the car, but after about 10 minutes in the store, I knew that he had to come in and see all of the lovely merchandise that Tammy has displayed! There is a terrific selection of gift items, household decorations, jewelry (I purchased 3 pieces), specialty foods, and much more, all at very reasonable prices. Tammy has been in this business for a long time and it really shows in the detailed selection of her merchandise and also in it's presentation throughout the store. The shop organized by theme and color which made it easier for us to see all that was offered, that would fit perfectly into our new home, Attached to the gift store is a bead shop. I originally stopped here to see if a couple of pieces of costume jewelry (that I had been carrying around in my purse for over a year!), could be repaired. The owner of the bead shop was not available, so Tammy graciously offered to fill in - she fixed my 3 necklaces for me, for free - that's old fashioned, GREAT customer service!!! This is our third trip to Brookings for vacation and I'm only sorry that it was our first time to this store. When we come back next year, rest assured that we will make a special trip to stop by Feather Your Nest - it truly is a "can't miss" shop so be sure to stop by, you won't be disappointed!

The staff person immediately was curt and when asked to check with her manager, she returned to say all sales were final. The item I purchased was discounted but it did not say that it was a final sale on the merchandise or my receipt- which was never even asked for. I like to shop local when I can. But local businesses who refuse to kindly work with the consumer is why it's not easy to do so -their loss.

There was no sign saying I couldn't, and that's a stupid outdated policy in today's world anyway. It's how we share with friends, spreading the word about what we like. I was trying to get a shot of a sign I wanted to send to some friends and she walked up to me like I'm a kid and said "Photography is not allowed." (For the record I'm in my 70s.) I guess the logic is I'll photograph it, go home and recreate it, spending way more time and money that would make it more expensive than simply shelling out the $7 for it. Really? C'mon, use some logic. Because of the condescension, I left the store instead of staying and buying something else. So, because she wouldn't let me take a simple photo to share on social media, which could have generated some more customers, she lost whatever sales I would have provided, shot a hole in the goodwill it would have created, and generated this poor review. Smooth move, better to make customers feel welcome and let them share than insulted and lose sales. But, who knows? Maybe it's some brilliant marketing strategy I just don't see.

We had purchased window coverings at big-box stores in the past and they never fit exactly right, and they didn't last for more than a few years. We didn't want to do that again! We wanted to buy local. We wanted a custom, quality product that would last. And, we wanted a knowledgeable, expert to measure and install the product we chose. We found exactly what we were looking for at D-N-T. When Steve came to measure our windows, he brought samples with him so that we could see how the color would look with our indoor lighting. And, when he installed the shades in all of our rooms a couple of weeks later, the finished product was stunning! They fit perfectly, they looked beautiful, and we were thrilled with the style, color, and functionality. We have had them now for one year, so we have gone through all 4 seasons with them on our windows. It is unbelievable what a difference the shades have made in the energy efficiency of our home. They keep the cold out when it's cold outside, and they keep the heat out in the summer. Our electric bill has been reduced by 25%!
