This is such a cute store and they are environmentally minded! Much of the decor is made out of recycled materials. All their items are handcrafted and most are from local makers. They have something for everyone and some home items. The staff is so friendly and welcoming. I have participated in multiple street and beach clean ups with them. So their social end eco friendly ways are just as important to them as anything else and that makes me want to shop there even more. read more

This is one of the coolest stores I have ever been inside. I love absolutely all of the clothes and socks but what really struck me the most was the decor made out of recycled materials. I've never seen anything like it, and it really puts into perspective how much more cognizant we should be of the things that we are throwing away. This store is cool. It primarily sells fun, soft, American-made shirts. I love that it's a local business, and the fact that I can order sale items online and pick them up in the store. The last time I ordered, my sweatshirt was ready that day! They have a good selection of merchandise, and even more online. They print shirts for men, women, and children with cool graphics. What a fabulous space. I was immediate sucked into all the new summer prints and taken to a beach paradise. I can't remember the last time I saw such an awesome display. Cinder & Salt definitely focus on printed, casual attire. They have a substantial area for kids shirts and baby shirts, as well. You'll see the same print replicated many times on different color pieces. I loved their accessories, which were scattered around. I was hoping for a bit more jewelry offerings, but I am an accessories kind of gal. They have a strong eco mission. Check out the art piece of the world made out of bottle caps. It's so impressive! I feel similarly about Middletown as I do about Waterbury: it takes just as long to get there as it does to get to Hartford, and there's more to do in Hartford. Cinder & Salt may convince me to think differently. Walking in, I had no idea what to expect; the windows were all done up for their Grand Opening / Small Business Saturday / Holiday Season combo stuff, blocking my view through their huge windows. Walking in, I felt immediately at ease. I'm not sure what this location was before, but it feels lived in and comfortable. There are racks upon racks of men's, women's, children's, and infant's clothing, complete with miniature ties and adorable onesies that made my ovaries ache. The quality seems to be very good (I had a hard time leaving without buying the amazingly soft sweatshirt with all of the game controllers on it) and the prices aren't outrageous. They highlight other local craftisans by carrying home decor, gifts, and bath products, among other things. They also had a HUGE sale rack in the back (sort of perplexing as it was their first day of business?) but I was happy to see that they like to discount things pretty heavily once they're out of season. My favorite thing (other than the sweatshirt I mentioned above and have been dreaming about) is that the designs are unisex. If you liked that onesie with the dinosaur on it, you're going to find that dino on a men's t-shirt or tie or a women's tank top. No more trying to squeeze into a children's XL or trying to figure out how to pull off a tie with business casual clothing. read more

Happy to have Cinder & Salt open up on Main Street in Middletown. While Middletown is a mecca of bars, restaurants and pizza places, we have a big gap in clothing stores. I first went in during the Yelp Small Business Saturday event, and went back last week. I special ordered a shirt for my husband and a tie for my stepson. I was able to pick the design and color of the tie I wanted and they were able to get it for me. Everything came in before Christmas and the employees are so friendly. I definitely look forward to shopping here again, it's a welcome addition to Middletown! read more

This is a super unique shop offering tons of cool prints and accessories. Recently went here with a friend for a Yelp event and fell in love with soooo many items! The baskets of colorful tiny sparkling earrings- at just $6 I couldn't resist! The glitter-laden cards with catchy sayings? How exactly was I supposed to say no to that? And the adorable prints everyyyywhere- I had no idea how to choose- let me tell you, there was some serious self control happening. The owner was so sweet- she helped my friend's son plant seeds in eggshells and was so patient with him. The store is huge- the front split between men's and women's, accessories scattered thoughtfully around each area, the back wall housing the children's clothing and jewelry, keychains and mugs by the register. The walls are covered in wall hangings like dream catchers and hand stitched banners, some of the tee shirt prints were turned into wall hangings! You can even have custom bridal party prints done locally- how cool is that?? Will definitely be visiting Cinder + Salt again in the near future. read more

Super cute small local business! Cinder & Salt offers a variety of men and women's printed tees. All the designed are done in house and on US made apparel. Something unique about this business is that they are so environmentally conscious. The owner purchased all the paint for the t-shirt graphics from a company that went out of business. They don't purchase any new paint but rather use the colors they have. Once its over its over. You'd think they'd run out really quick but she really has that sustainable supply thing going on. When you walk around the shop you can find so many cute designs. They are all done in house as well. You'll definitely find a unique gift here for a special friend or yourself. I was strolling through Middletown in May (one month before my courthouse wedding) and a friend suggested we check this place out. New retail! Cool! I fell in love with their ties and just knew I had to buy one for my husband. I wanted a yellow tie and saw the octopus print and asked if I could combine those. They set me up with a custom order and mailed it to my home. I got the tie a week later and my husband wore it to the wedding and loved it. We were planning to hold a ceremony/reception for everyone who couldn't make it to the courthouse in Sept, and I wanted coordinating but not matchy matchy attire, so I decided to buy custom ties for all the men in the party as a gift. Cinder + Salt got me a list of colors and a list of prints and I let each man pick his print and I picked the colors. The orders came out perfectly and everyone loved them. Oh! And we didn't have a ring bearer (b/c already married), but my 20yo cousin wanted to be the "ring bear" so I bought him a sparkly grizzlie tie which he also loved.
