I found a Jamaican plant based cookbook that I have to grab next time I'm in. I purchased the heirloom tomato candle because I just could not stop thinking about it. Ive never been to the store personally because I'm all the way in danbury so this is based on my online experiences! This is my favorite shop to order from for quirky cards and stationery! Each card i got for someone here they loved them! I ordered one card but got an email shortly that they ran out and showed me other similar cards, which was awesome and really sweet of them. I wish they weren't so pricey but I don't mind if the quality is good. Another thing id have to nitpick is the lack of new haven stuff. I know they're located in hartford and they have general hartford and Connecticut merch, but new haven and the pizza was what really put this state on the map! This is such a neat spot on Pratt Street. For me, it's a perfect spot for buying a gift for the cool person in your life. I popped in yesterday and bought some hilarious Birthday and Mother's Day cards as well as a trivia/card game. They have socks, kitchy kitchen stuff, lots of CT and Hartford themed t-shirts and much more. The layout is easy to navigate and the guy who was working on 4/8 was jamming out some sweet Prince tunes and he joked that he appreciated that me and my coworkers were singing along to it. From author signings to charm bracelets at a GREAT price, color-your-own bookmark crafts, themed *complementary* drinks, $1 mini prints, flash tattoos, and even a loon calling competition. Pratt Street boasts a lot of cool places - a bakery, a combination tattoo parlor/coffee shop, a brewery, and more. But one of the coolest of the coolest places here is Hartford Prints. It's a jam-packed gift shop with cards, stationery, clothing, jewelry, tote bags, kitchen and bath goods, books, toys, calendars, games, candles, drinks and food, and so much more. They have a magnificent selection of Connecticut and Hartford-based prints and cards to celebrate the Nutmeg State and its capital city. The store has a very laid back and chill vibe. The workers we saw today were young, cheerful, and helpful. And the store gets very high marks for their aesthetics, splashy use of color, and eye-catching display of merchandise. We picked up a few doodads for the grandchildren's Valentines Day gift box - some adorable Gummy Bear hairclips, two sets of stickers, and two super cute Snoopy keychains for a little over $50. Yeah, I know it's not a super cheap discount kind of a store, but I was glad to support this Hartford gem. read more

Cutest shop EVER! I felt transported right out of my hometown of Hartford, CT and into a cute card shop in a quaint little town by the water in some touristy vacation spot. I have been following Hartford Prints! on instagram for a while and finally took the trip this afternoon! They were having a pop-up on Pratt Street with a few other Hartford vendors so it was the perfect excuse to try some new places. It was so fun to feel like a tourist in my own state! So many Connecticut and Hartford themed cards, prints, drinkware, clothes, and more! I got a cute Hartford themed magnet for my mom and a mother's day card. I also stocked up on some fun birthday cards and a father's day "dog dad" card for the hubby, hehe! Everything is a little pricey but that is because it's all handmade from local artists, so you need to expect to pay a little more. If you are local, and especially if you're from out of town you must visit this beautiful store. It is packed with locally made items, it's just so much fun to look at everything and to appreciate the craftsmanship and the beautiful detail of the packaging. With no doubt, these things are a little more expensive then the comparable item you'd find at Target, however I'd much rather give my $5.00 to a local artist then $3.00 to a big corporation. There are greeting cards here, and a lot of them, magnets, keychains, ornaments, lots of candles, jewelry, books, tee shirts, and lots more. There are items for adults, teenagers and kids. It is a little store and it's very tastefully set up and decorated. The people working here are pleasant and are informed on the items they sell. I also love Pratt street, the street where Hartford Prints is housed. This street has a bit of European feeling to it, truly the most beautiful street in Hartford. read more

What's not to love about Hartford Prints? Their storefront is so charming, their staff are super friendly, and all of their merchandise is adorable. I could have easily spent all of my money just on note cards. They're located on Pratt St, which is a pedestrian alley way with lots of great shops and restaurants. This is such a cute local shop! It has such a great variety of Connecticut/Hartford focused products including great baby/children's gifts! We got two "Whalers" onesies here - one for us and one for a friend. Can't wait to send it to him. We also snagged a "Whalers" Christmas ornament. The adult shirts and sweatshirts also looked incredibly soft and comfortable. They also had a small sale section in the back! I imagine with the Christmas season ending, they'll be switching up the merchandise soon. I can't wait to come back and see what's new! I realized that I've never given Hartford Prints a review here, and I don't know why! This place is one of the best spots for local items, including paper goods and great gift ideas. The staff here is always helpful and friendly, and their shop is impeccably curated. They always seem to remember customers, and make the shopping experience personal. The shop itself is a little like a local version of Paper Source. They have awesome items for gifts, including clothing, calendars, keychains, enamel pins, and others. And if you're looking for funny or fun cards, they have something perfect for almost all occasions. They also will do printing of invitations, cards, or nearly anything at reasonable prices with very professional results! I have heard such wonderful things about Hartford Prints that I am ashamed to say that it has taken me 2 years to visit their Pratt Street location. I have to thank the folks of Open Studio Hartford for including Hartford Prints as it finally gave me the opportunity to visit and shop at this wonderfully local store. Yes the prices are a bit steep BUT the women who run and own this store take pride in their work and their community. I was dazzled at the interesting and unique cards and prints - many of which had a Hartford or Connecticut influence to them. I especially loved the Connecticut Advent Calendar (in which each tabbed picture reveals a cool and interesting fact about Connecticut) and wide range of Greeting (especially the Hartford/Connecticut themed) greeting cards and invitations. I had hoped to buy one of their Hartford/New Haven/New York railway logo tees but they were sold out of my size - guess I will have to be back, which honestly is not a bad Not to limit themselves - the owners of Hartford Prints have expanded to include street wear (t-shirts/hoodies/sweatshirts) and also have set aside space in their store to showcase other Connecticut artisans. What a wonderful way to expose their shopping clientele to some of the other great local artisien that reside in our state. Truly - the Hartford Prints practices what they preach - we might be a small state but it is the owners of places like Hartford Prints that shows what a big heart our state has. read more

They are located in the heart of the city, easily accessible from major highways, public transportation, and foot traffic generated by area restaurants/offices/attractions. They have a bright storefront that catches your attention from a block away, and they're always cheerful when you walk in. I love that they change up the window all the time and have a little table with chairs outside if you need a rest. Since they've opened, I've purchased from them on Etsy and in person, and my family and friends have come to expect a Hartford Prints card for every occasion. A little steeply priced, but everything is completely worth it. I have 2 shirts from here, the infamous "Small State, Big Heart" that I got at last year's holiday bazaar at the New Britain Museum of Art, and the old school New York, New Haven, and Hartford railroad logo baseball tee. (I was super excited when I saw them post that design on instagram...and when I came to the store for a Yelp event I gleefully snatched one up, and my friend bought the actual print...obtaining one for myself is next on my list). Both are well made, and the print hasn't faded on the former (haven't had the latter long enough to judge, but I'm sure it'll be fine.) The store has all sorts of cool stuff: Cards, baby stuff, notebooks, pillows, beer glasses, flasks, etc - all with a Hartford (or Connecticut) slant. Hartford Prints embodies the reasons one should shop locally. The Gale sisters and company feature unique, homemade stationary goods made with their Vandercook Letterpress. They also sell Connecticut themed apparel (mostly designed in house) and goods from other local vendors, such as Happy Life Coffee, Kate Stephen Jewelry, and Blaze and Bloom. It is my first stop for gift shopping. I own and have gifted a variety of items from here, including the now iconic Small State, Big Heart shirt. I recently gave the man one of their city journals and he loves it. While their goods aren't cheap, they are well made and worth the extra cash. Anyone that has used a letterpress knows that $4 for a card is reasonable given the labor. Hartford Prints also gives back to the community by hosting events, such as pumpkin carving, holiday parties, workshops, concerts, and crafting for kids. Brace yourself, wedding reviews are coming. For the skimmers Pros 1. Their artistic talent is really amazing. They actualized my very abstract ideas into images. designs can be truly one of a kind 2. Their "vintage" printer is super cool and a nice niche market for people with tons of money to spend Cons 1. they are expensive printers 2. they were late on my job and basically gave me a "sorry, not sorry" response Hartford Prints designed and printed my Save the Dates and designed the image for my invitations. They were able to take my abstract idea and vision and bring it to life. This is good because my creativity FAR, FAR, FAAAAAR exceeds my artistic skill. They get high marks from me for the art. I could not give them anything less than a 4/5 star because they truly are "arteests" and know their aesthetic stuff. they brought to life my "Little Prince" themed Save the Dates and Invites which are truly one of a kind. They lose the star (honestly really made me angry) because they took on the job of designing my invites (I planned to outsource the printing because the prices of their printing is very high even for digital printing) and it was a month late. In fact, they never even called me to tell me they were running late. I had to call them to "remind" them that we had agreed on a date. They quoted me like two weeks more from the date of my already annoyed reminder call and, as a result, I missed my invite deadline. I understand "busy" but I am a planner and I give my vendors TONS of notice. The person I spoke to was basically like, "yeah, sorry, we're super busy and a woman down". For a more neurotic bride, I am really laid back, that's a 2/5 star customer service. Especially because I was repeat business, basically gave them the artwork idea all planned out and gave them ultimately 6 weeks notice. They gave me the due date and then BLEW through it. read more

This is my favorite shop on Pratt Street...actually in all of Hartford! The company is owned by three sisters who are all fantastic. I am one of three girls as well, so even before I saw any of their products, I liked everything about them. They are from Hartford and that is reflected in the work they do. They celebrate the city and state in any way they can think of: cards, bags, shirts, glasses, mugs...you name it! The 'Small State Big Heart' shirt is my all time favorite and I wear it with pride. They do everything by old fashioned letterpress, so the prices are a bit more expensive than a chain card shop. However, the craftsmanship is old school and beautiful and worth every penny. If I ever get married, they'll be doing my invitations for sure. Last weekend, I visited the shop for an event they were holding in conjunction with Yelp Hartford called the 'Pet People Party'. Free as always, everyone was encouraged to bring pet food for the CT Humane society. In the shop were several fun craft stations all designed to pamper your pet: DIY food bowls, cat toys, wine charms, needlepoint (way out of my element), and of course, homemade cards. They bring something special to Hartford's downtown and I hope to see them on Pratt Street for years to come. read more

Very cute little place with lots of local goods. Offerings include bookmarks, signs, posters, journals, jewelry, greeting cards and much more. Service was great. When I called to inquire about the parking situation, the staff member gave me a wealth of helpful information. When I arrived she showed me the entire selection of cards and told me about the deals. They have a deal where you buy 5 greeting cards, you get one for free. There is also a 10% off deal when you check in on yelp. Parking was not particularly easy but it is free on the weekends so it's just a matter of finding a spot. I would recommend this place if you're looking for a unique gift. read more

I was shopping their selection online when I came across an item I wanted, only to find that it was out of stock in my size. I decided that it couldn't hurt to inquire about when they'd restock it. The very next business day they re-checked their inventory, found what I wanted, set it aside just for me and let me know that I could make my purchase whenever I wanted (which I very promptly did). So in short - great customer service, and if my sweatshirt is any indicator, their wares are top-notch quality (not to mention all locally-produced). I stopped in today to get a birthday gift and, as soon as I entered the store, I was instantly relaxed and happy that these 2 sisters are making a successful go at their dreams. I've been to the shop a number of times and each time they have something new and cheerful. Today I checked out the new 'Hartford Handsome' line which is for your favorite guys and baby boys. I bought two kinds of locally made lip balm, a candle, a card, and a tshirt. All told it was expensive but this stuff isn't from China folks - it's all from our creative neighbors here in CT.
