The customer service here is excellent. The first time I ordered a bowl. It was huge! The fish taco was meh. The soup was decent, my bf liked it though. Second visit I got the fries with the brisket! So delicious! The green salsa compliments it well. My bf got the torta which looked amazing but wasn't so much. The bread says double crunch but seemed stale. I come here for their vegan tacos with tortillas made right in front of you when you order. As a vegan, it is a big bonus that their veggie tacos are topped with tons of grilled vegetables and a ton of free guac unlike most places that charge you extra even though I'm taking out the meat and cheese. I also like the waffle fries AKA papas and the giant portion size of the horchata. But, most of all, I could seriously eat a tray full of their chips, salsa and guacamole. read more

There's no shortage of Mexican restaurants in San Leandro but what separates Cinco TacoBar is the build it in front of your face concept. Much like the Chipotle chain restaurant they start of your order at the right side of the counter. First, pick your meat. Second, chose your toppings. Third, pay for your meal and seat yourself. I notice most people order to go. There is a limited amount of seating indoor and outdoor. The restaurant is not very suitable for any party with six or more people. We ordered 6 tacos, a fresca and the total was around $22. Each taco is $2.99 unless you want to add guacamole or more meat. I highly recommend the Al Pastor. The meat was tender and they add little pineapple bits in there to give it a sweat flavor. I thought it was a perfect blend with the barbecue meat. One item that stood out to me is the Carne Asada waffle fries. I've seen other Mexican restaurants use thin cut fries but never waffle fries. I really want to try this next time. I like the idea of using waffle fries since it can pick up more of the toppings. Good idea Cinco! The restaurant is still very clean and new. The staff are attentive and cleans up right after customers leave their table. This might become my new go to restaurant for Mexican food in San Leandro. read more

We happened to be in San Leandro around lunch time, so we checked Yelp to see what's good in the area. Cinco TacoBar was the top result, so we headed on over and found a trendy little taco shop in the middle of a strip mall. It's basically setup like Chipotle - there's a counter where you see all of rice, beans, meats, veggies, salsas, and other toppings. You let them know what you want, like a burrito or tacos or whatever, and then point out all the fillings that you want. I always get the same burrito wherever I go - flour tortilla, carne asada, pinto beans, no rice, cheese, sour cream, guacamole, and salsa. Wifey ordered two tacos - one chicken, and one brisket, with cheese, pinto beans, cilantro, and salsa. Both the burrito and tacos came with a side of chips and salsa. The burrito was massive, and the taco brisket was tender. All of the ingredients were fresh, but under-seasoned. Overall, the food was just okay. I've had the al pastor bowl a couple of times and it's just an explosion of flavors. My current obsession is the Dutch crunch torta with all the fixings... OMG. This is one hell of a sandwich. I've had it like 3 times in the last two weeks! I've gotten it with grilled chicken and al pastor. For this, I prefer chicken. I came upon this place completely by accident, I a few doors down at Bev Mo.Right away when I first walked in I noticed how clean the place was and you could smell the aromas of something good cooking in the kitchen. There is a menu board just above the hot/cold food prep counter, where many containers are filled wonderful fresh ingredients, that are kept. As my own rule I always order something simple when I try out a place for the first time. The time was just after 11 am. There were a few people inside but no line. I ordered 1 taco carne asada, made with one of their freshly made corn tortillas.My only issue is the price for the taco, compared to the size of the tortilla is a little pricey side. Now the counter person asks me what would you like on it? I reply, well what can I have... she says, everything you see here! At no extra charge except for certain items of course.From choices like radishes,raw onions,corn,cheese whole pinto beans,re-fried beans beans,black beans, veggies,salsa verde,pico de gallo,guacamole etc. You could tell how fresh everything was. My taco was served on a rectangular metal pan with a side order of chips and salsa verde. They have a giant keg of ice water on the counter for their customers too. Taco Tuesday? More like Torta Tuesday! I was in the area for lunch and found myself after a quick Yelp search. I usually don't get tortas since I'm not the biggest fan of sandwiches but it looked too good to not try! The Dutch Crunch Torta (~$11) includes your choice of meat, chipotle mayo, and pretty much any toppings you want! The bread is heated up with butter and topped with chipotle mayo on both sides. For the meat, I went with the beef brisket. For toppings, I went with fajita vegetables, onions, cilantro, etc. I also added a side of Guacamole ($1.50). To add guacamole to your sandwich, it's $2.25. But to get a small cup of guacamole on the side, it's $1.50. I definitely recommend just getting the cup on the side and saving money. The torta was delicious. However, you definitely need to know what you want in your sandwich since it is super fast-paced. I definitely forgot to add a couple things I wanted. It also comes with complimentary nacho chips and salsa, so definitely take advantage of that. Overall, it was a good try but ~$12 for a torta and guacamole is too expensive. I added beans, cheese, salsa, hot sauce, jalapeños, red onion, sour cream, cilantro. The worker was also so kind to squeeze the lime on top of mine. Are tortas always made with dutch crunch? Because that made it infinitely even tastier. They also give free chips and salsa. The salsa was actually quite spicy, which I liked! The cons are this place can make you feel claustrophobic and the seating is very limited inside. The assembly line also takes really, really long. I like that this place lets you do so much customization, even down to doing two different meats. The people here working are so rushed. I asked for no onions but without listening the lady put a big scoop of onions on, only to realize her mistake after. It's not a big deal since it's not an allergy for me, and she was willing to make a new bowl for me, but I didn't want to waste any food so I told her to just leave it. Another thing that can be improved upon is the texture of the meat. The chicken and the asada is a little bit dry, which for me is such a big deal. The sauces did help but it was still dry. I was dropping my daughter off at her grandmothers and I needed a place to eat before I got home. I usually get tacos up the street but I grew tired of it and wanted to try a new spot. I heard about this place from some friends and it looked promising so I gave it a try. Very simple menu tacos, burritos, bowls, quesadillas. I wanted tacos, I got a carne Asada, al pastor, and the fish taco. I got an order of the waffle fries too. Amazing! The tacos were great, the tortillas are fresh made right in front of you. You have a choice of toppings, including a very fresh tasting mango salsa. The Asada was cooked well with good flavor, stocked with the onions and cilantro, as was the pastor. It was very clean and fresh. I am very picky with my fish tacos, for $5 I was hoping it would be satisfying. And it did not disappoint, crispy and fresh great flavor. The green sauce was great, tart but not too spicy. The hot was spicy, but nothing I can't handle. I highly recommend this place, it was good food at a good price. By the time I got home my bowl was cold..I think they may not have kept the meat hot enough in the warmers. I unfortunately have been sick all day today and still feel unwell and I know it was from this bowl..my boyfriend was also sick most of the day today and he had a burrito. I also found super spicy pepper slices in my bowl that I did not ask for. I only got meat with pico, rice, beans, pickled onions, guac..nothing that would normally be spicy. Wow. This unassuming shop in a strip mall next to Bayfair just blew our minds. We were at Michael's across the way and decided we were starving. We were trying to decide where to go, as we were both weren't familiar with the area, and even joked..."any place but that taco bar across the way." So we get in the car and I'm Yelping away and then this place calls Cinco pulls up as the best rated restaurant and we realized it was THIS very same taco bar. So what did we do? We started the car and drove our lazy asses to the other side of the plaza, haha. It was a random weekday but this place was seeing steady business the entire time we were there. First off, did you know they MAKE their own fresh tortillas made to order?! That's just nuts. But the same lady that will take your order as you get in line is the same lady cranking out tortillas from the machine once she hears how many tacos you want. We ended up with three tacos and a grilled torta. I was very very tempted by the loaded fries (can never say no to fries) but it ended up being too much food already. I think my favorite part is all the toppings they have. Three kinds of salsa, including MANGO, pickled veggies, peppers...everything looked fresh and delicious. They also offer freshly made chips and salsa with every entree. I was so happy and excited. This meal definitely compares to some of my meals in Mexico. It was just hilarious when you realize we're in a strip mall with Michael's and Dollar Tree, eating away some of the best Mexican food in the Bay Area. Last review because this will be my last time coming here. I had to ask the person that was going to prepare my food to pull her mask over her nose...TWICE. She yelled at me and told me she would have to change her gloves because she touched her mask. Then, she stormed off and didn't make my food. Not only that, I saw her sitting in the dining room, talking to another staff with her mask completely removed. In such a small space, and in the middle of a global pandemic, it's really unacceptable to have to ask a person preparing my food to wear a mask correctly. It's also terrible that she chose to possibly expose everyone else by removing her mask entirely. Another person made my food, and of course I had to ask her to pull her mask up correctly. The incredibly small portions and overpriced food are one thing, jeopardizing your patrons health crosses the line. I'm avoiding this place indefinitely. read more

Great customer service has bumped up 3 1/2 stars to 4, but a bad first impression can also bump it down to a 3 which is unfortunately what happened at Cinco. I was so excited to see that a new taco bar opened up in town and after seeing such great reviews, I immediately bookmarked it to try. When my cousin was here and we were looking for dinner for takeout, I suggested Cinco TacoBar since she likes Mexican food and told her it's got great reviews. We ordered 2 burritos, 1 bowl, and 3 tacos so we can try a little of everything among 3 of us. I agree that the food itself is quite good and the tortilla nice and soft since they make it daily. So for food, it is a 4 star. Two things however dropped it down to a 3 star overall. I asked if chips come with our order and she confirmed yes. I thought great, we'll also order a side of guacamole and was told they are charging almost twice the price for the guacamole now ($4.25 instead of $2.25) because the price of avocados got so expensive. $4.25 for a small solo cup of guacamole? Really? The price of avocados are not $10 each to warrant that price so we took a pass. If you are going to be raising the price of guacamole because of price, it should be reflected on the menu as seasonal price and not still reflect $2.25, otherwise, you should honor what is advertised. When we got home and opened our bag, there was not one single chip in there. 2 burritos, 1 bowl, and 3 tacos, and not one single chip. I might've presumed that maybe it was because it was a takeout order but I confirmed when I called to place the order for takeout and was told, yes we get chips and the person in front of us who ordered 1 item to go got an entire bag of chips with their order and I even listened to make sure they did not order chips and salsa. I was originally planning to suggest Cinco to some friends that were going to be in Bayfair the next day but after our experience, I couldn't bring myself to do so. I love Mexican food, but I also enjoy TexMex (like Chipotle). I would definitely categorize Cinco as TexMex. The food is awesome, but not exactly authentic. The way you order here is the same way you would at Chipotle. Start off on the far right with what you want, then you go down to the left with rice, beans, meats, sauces, etc. Ordered 2 tacos and a burrito to share, which was enough to share between 2 people. The al pastor didn't really have the pineapple taste to it, but it did have a very strong achiote and chili taste to it. The meat was also very juicy and tender so the tacos weren't dry at all. The burrito was just as good, except the al pastor was stronger in flavor than the carne asada. Oh yeah, we got some free churros too! Great presentation for a joint like this. The churro itself was very crispy. Only comment is I wish the churro had a bigger cinnamon kick to it. The chocolate dip was thick, creamy, and just everything you'd imagine chocolate goodness to be. Satisfies a craving for some good, fresh Mexican food. I came because I had been craving carne asada fries and saw this place had a similar dish (papa loca). I also was excited to see they sold mulas- which is kinda like a smaller quesadilla- where they mound on a bunch of cheese and a meat between two corn tortillas. I ordered a mula with al pastor and papa loca with carne asada. Adding meat to the mula bumps up the price from 1.99 to 5. And the papa loca was a little on the pricier side at almost 12 bucks. It was pretty cool seeing the tortillas prepared in front of me, super fresh. There ingredients looked pretty fresh too. I did notice that the person scooping the al pastor dropped some on the way, and it landed in the carne asada. :/ Could be an issue for others. It's a smallish place with maybe 3 four person tables, 1 2-person table and a couple of seats against both window. I ate in- so the fries were crispy and fresh, but I could see that they would get soggy pretty quick under all the toppings. I like the freshness they add with the red onions, cilantro, and a good helping of guac. And for norcal carne asada fries, I am seeing a pattern of using seasoned waffle fries instead of straight french fries. It was tasty. The carne asada was a little dry for my liking but flavorful. I really liked the al pastor mula, super juicy and loved trying the fresh tortillas. Also even though I got fries, they add in tortilla chips with salsa. :) And those tortilla chips were so goood. Why am I waiting at Chipotle when I am soooo close to Cinco Taco Bar! Soooo... down E. 14th I go. It's not a large place (small strip mall operation) with a few tables in and out... But, they are H U G E in flavorful food! The few times I have partaken in their offerings, I have had tacos, a burrito... and the pictured enchiladas. Flavorful carne asada, Al Pastor, chicken... carnitas! All superior to that other place I mentioned previously. Excellent beans, rice, pico and salsa. And HANDMADE tortillas! Wow, wow, wow, wow! Cinco Tacobar is probably one of the better joints in the area, coming from a person who always loves Mission District tacos in the city. Their assembly line is chipotle stye. They use fresh in house made tortillas which make a HUGE difference. I had my tacos with carnitas and carnde asada, both very tender. They have variety of toppings so you can customize it to however you like. What i like best about this place is their salsa. Every order comes with a side of chips and salsa. The medium salsa has just the right amount of smokey, spicy, acidity, cilantro, etc; all that makes a good salsa, a good salsa. Definitely seeing myself becoming a regular! read more

My goodness where do I start with Cinco? It is at Bayfair which is the shopping center closest to my house so I frequent the area quite often. My favorite time of year is the Fall, Dia De Los Muertos is a day I often participate in because I've lost ppl near and dear to my heart and because I'm from SF, went to HS in the Mission. Cinco has vivid Sugar Skull murals, they imply so much authenticity and tradition. The food is so fresh, the handmade tortillas are comforting. I love the mango and green salsas and the fact that I can customize each taco so both aren't the same in one meal. They make amazing fish too! I've never been to Chipotle because I prefer to spend locally and with small business, so I can't weigh in on the comparison. But Cinco stays open late (10pm), and it's near my gym so I love saving my calories for the end of the day and workout until I get here! We came here for dinner a little after seven and there was a line out the door. Expect quite a bit of a wait because the line does not move very fast. They can definitely rework the assembly line model they have as it is not the most efficient. The tortillas for the tacos are homemade and toasted right in front of you. You get to choose what toppings you want on your taco or burrito, just like at Chipotle. I ordered three tacos: carne asada, carnitas, and carne pastor. They are $2.35 each. I also got a horchata for checking in. The carnitas and carne pastor were my favorite. The meat was very flavorful. However, the carne asada was not as great as I expected. Service here is great. They even stopped by our table while we were eating to see if we needed anything. Overall assessment: This place is better than Chipotle and definitely cheaper. If you find yourself hungry at Bayfair, there's no better place to eat than here. I came in recently for lunch and had the 3 tacos and an order of churros. The Al Pastor was my favorite meat; the pork was very flavorful and held up well with the freshly cooked tortilla. The Carne Asada was OK, but a little on the bland side. The Carne Molida was a surprise and also very flavorful, but the meat was a little more wet than I expected, and the taco fell apart quickly. If you order one of these in a taco, eat that first, before the tortilla loses consistency. (Maybe I'll get it in a burrito or quesadilla next time). But by far my favorite item was the churros. They are served piping-hot in 4 pieces (2 full sized churros cut in half), drenched in cinnamon sugar and caramel sauce, filled with dulce de leche cream and chocolate sauce on the side. These are perfect for sharing (or a solo indulgence)... just make sure you let them cool down for a few seconds before scarfing them down, since they are fresh out of the fryer. These churros alone are worse the trip to Bayfair for dessert. read more

I have a been a patron here since the first day they opened. There has only been one occasion where I felt the service was disappointing (felt like an off-day for the worker and close to closing. Today I witnessed this lady before me berate the sweet older worker (i believe she has blonde hair). She ordered tacos and didn't understand why they were getting ready to start on my burrito. The worker was trying to explain the process (the tortilla for her tacos need to be flipped a few times), but the lady was not having it. The older worker without losing her patience was SO graceful and the lady just walked out. The other patrons were honestly relieved because her mask was falling right below her lip. During these times, we have to be mindful as patrons that establishments such as Cinco see a lot of people everyday. Let's do our part to be respectful and make it a bit easier for them since they are highly exposed. Beyond that, I recommend their brisket bowl with cucumbers, mango salsa, the middle red salsa, lettuce, tomatoes, picked onions, guac, cilantro (if you don't have the gene where it tastes like soap lol), onions, a smidge of refried beans. Do believe the hype! My bro gave this place rave reviews so I had to get in on the hottest spot in town. I've been sleeping on this new taco spot. Like Chipotle, they customize your meal. Unlike Chipotle, it tastes like the real thing, even if you opt for the spinach tortilla. My little Chicanita has eaten a lot of Mexican food in her life and has hit up almost every place in SL. After biting into her chicken taco, she declared Cinco her favorite. My chicken burrito was gigantic but gluttony took over and I devoured it in its entirety. Can I bring some of that mango pico home? We chose to eat there so our horchatas came to our table in tall mason jars. Those were delicious, too, and definitely not watered down. I will be back.
