Be for-warned! Went to this authentic Mexican restaurant two times. It was hard to park in the off season so I can imagine it's even harder in the summer. The first time was great; food is decent. The place lacks authentic decor, but the food is cheap so you can overlook the atmosphere. However, went back a second time, had a different waitress, she told my party that she does not accept American Express, so I paid with another CC. This is by far the worst Mexican place I have encountered!! I ordered " Carne assada" and my wife the "beef fajitas" . My plate was mediocre at best, the steak(carne assada) was a very thin peace of very hard meat, with a very bad taste. The fajitas were terrible. It seemed like the meat was only nerve ends, very hard and chewy. I politely made the waitress ware, but to no avail. She seemed upset and not welling to remedy the situation. Cinco De Mayo was a yummy experience. The place is open year round and it's BYOB! (Win!) The decor is cheesy, which I love, and very comfortable. All the wait staff were very friendly and the place is very well-priced. You get complimentary tortilla chips to start with three dips: pico de gallo, refried beans, and another salsa- all of which are very good. I ordered the shrimp and scallop burrito. It was amazing! The rice and beans that came with it were great too. Everyone at the table loved their food. My boyfriend got the Fajita Burrito, which was enormous but also very tasty. Do not skip desert. Food was good but service was well below sub par; they were not very organized. We requested chips and salsa a few times before getting it. Also, we brought a bottle of wine and they threw out the cork so we had to drink the bottle (we were hoping only to have a glass each over dinner). The kicker was that the ended up charging for each order of the salsa dips that we asked for (which by the way didn't arrive in a timely manner, particularly the chips which we requested 3 times over) . Surprisingly poor service with not much "interest" in customer service and they weren't busy when we were finally seated. Not worth the service and hidden charges. Never been charged for salsa at any Mexican restaurant I have eaten at. Would have left a decent tip but the extra hidden charge for salsa rubbed us the wrong way. read more

Ok passed this place a hundred times but never went in. Finally in the off season on a rainy saturday night I had a taste for tacos. Walked in and found a very clean festive atmosphere. The aromas from the kitchen will get you hungry if you weren't when you walked in. Assuming BYO since no liquor license. Decent crowd fir a dreary off season night. One waiter who worked his tail off taking care of the customers. Told me it could be 30 minutes for 2 orders of tacos. Ok a little long but better than saying 15 minutes and wait 30. Couldnt pick a negative star rating, I would if it was an option. cleanliness was ok, but the service was horrible. Waiter was rude. We were not served even water for 20 mins. Then chips and food came out at the same time. Burritos we ordered were cold inside and not heated through. Knowing that the burritos are not made to order and heated with sour cream and avocado is disgusting. Anyways, aside from the horrible experience, there was something weird about the full length mirror in the ladies room, it was placed right next to the toilet, it didn't make sense to have a full length mirror when there was another small one over the sink. I feel like the recent spate of good reviews must be the result of a paid media campaign... particularly the reviews touting the mixed fajitas as the "best ever" etc. I made the mistake of reading the new reviews and ignoring the old reviews along with my gut about this place. It was nearly empty when we walked in and in spite of this, our waitress seemed like we were putting her out every time we needed anything. In addition to the unpleasant service, we had 3 entrees (2 different fajita platters included) that were all somewhere between tasteless and fairly bland. I had the 5-de-mayo fajitas (mixed fajitas) and if those were the best that anyone has ever had (as stated by a recent reviewer), then I would guess they were the ONLY mixed fajitas that that diner had ever had. A little gem a friend recommended while down around the Cape May area.. The bi-steak tacos's were authentic and really tasty a long with a great staff. The cool thing about this place is the BYOB so after leaving Cape May Brewing Company are group brought the beer inside here to drink while enjoying dinner. Never received guac when told "I'll bring it right out", also waiting almost 1 1/2 hours for our food because the waitress said "there was a mix up with tickets, what do you want me to tell you, you know?". We're laid back so we stayed, ate (my food was good, my bf wasn't a fan) but when we got the check no percentage was taken off or offered (I assumed it would be a given considering other people sat after us, ate and left before we got our food). I politely asked about a discount and was met with utter rudeness and a blank look with a statement "uh for what?" And "no ones ever asked for a discount before". My boyfriend and I were completely confused by this response and then we had words back and forth due to their complete unprofessional approach to business. The waitress who turned out was really the manager initially stated "I don't do discounts I'm just an employee". She then stated "I didn't charge you for the guacamole" which literally was the smallest ramekin and came out an hour and a half late anyway. The frazzled guy helping out throughout the night decided to jump in by asking us rudely "well, did you eat it?". Obviously not getting or not wanting to address the fact that YOU FORGOT ABOUT OUR FOOD. I thought I was on a reboot of Candid Camera. The woman then stated "I'll give you 15% off" to which my boyfriend declined, not even wanting a discount anymore from this joke of a restaurant. He then slapped a nickel on the counter for her "service" and as we finally were able to leave she yelled out "you need it more than me". Give nicer people your money, go elsewhere especially if you want to have the rest of your night to do things. Never in my life has this ever happened, and it was really uncomfortable having to get into an argument with the manager no less. Want to begin with saying I've been in the hospitality industry for 50 years and have never seen anything like this. A few days ago 3 of us went in to eat. We were the only customers and there was only one server. He was nice but then noticed he was sweating profusely, unable to stand still, talking non stop and had his mask on his chin. At first we thought "this guy is crazy ha ha" which quickly changed to ""this guys scaring us". Not sure if we was on meth, heroin or a case of bad Tourette's. While eating we could hear him making loud, strange noises, beating on his chest and banging on things in the kitchen. I did see a cook come out who didn't seem fazed whatsoever. We quickly ate our meal which was okay and the male in our group told us to go to the car while he paid the bill in cash because he was afraid if he was an addict he might steal the credit card numbers. I would think this server is probably a family member but he needs to be kept in the back of the house (although you can still hear him from there). I won't be going back. read more

We went here expecting to receive an awesome meal based on the reviews and the location. When getting to the restaurant it was not packed with only a few people and families being served. It took about 45 minutes to an hour to receive our meal and our waitress did not come once during that time to our table to see if we needed anything. This restaurant been on our good list for past few years. Each time we visit cape may, we eat here. But past 2 time we been there not great experience extra star is for salad which was pretty good. Service is very disappointing here. Our waitress brought food did not look at us once. First of all there were about two other families eating, when we order our food came about half hour later, she finally brought soda which was completely flat. The Mole Sauce was delicious and the Mexicana Faita was very unusual and definitely worth a try. I walked in and tried to order a dessert from their menu to go. The host seemed confused and was unsure about the dessert I asked for, even though it was on their menu. She then said she was unsure if I was able to have it to go. So she went into the kitchen to ask, and she said came back and said no. She then went back to the kitchen and she came back out and said I would be able to take it to go. Then she walked away to deliver some food and when I asked if I could order she then said I wasn't allowed to take it to go, so I asked if I could just order and pay for it. She then stated she was unsure if they even had any. So I asked her if she wanted to check before I paid. She went to check and came back and stated they didn't have any. This situation was completely unnecessary, unprofessional and bad customer service. I've never heard of not being able to order a dessert to go. The restaurant wasn't even busy for them to be so unsure and slow. There were 2 families of 4 when I walked in. I do not recommend this restaurant to anyone unless you enjoy bad customer service and workers who don't know their menu. read more
