I'm a regular at this place and whole heartedly recommend coming here. There hasn't been a single time when I was dissatisfied with a meal I've ordered. I've tried many of their nachos, enchiladas, burritos, tacos, and all met the grade. On my most recent visit, I decided to try something new: Parrillada Dos Amigos. This dish was incredible. It is a barbecue platter that has steak, ribs, chicken, chorizo, shrimp, peppers, onion, rice, and beans. It was massive and so incredible. Everything from the various meats and veggies were grilled perfectly. There's a picture of this platter attached, highly recommend it. This is a great Mexican restaurant in the area. I have a house in Cape May and was looking for a good Mexican lunch we decided to go to this place, but it was the worst Mexican food I have ever had. We each had the taco salad with beef. There might've been a tablespoon of beef, a tablespoon of shredded cheese, and a ton of iceberg lettuce. There service was really welcoming and she was really nice....ambiance is very clean....on the other hand food was not great. The salsa was very bland so we had to add hot sauce, salt and pepper. My mom and I got chicken fajitas....no flavour whatsoever, no pico ,had to pay for cheese. The chorizo dip was not spicy and had to do the same thing as the salsa. I passed by this place a million times while going to the Rio Grande Shop Rite, Dos Amigos is in the same shopping center. I always wanted to try it. A young teen arrived at the front to seat us. We thanked him, in English and Spanish, he said nothing and waked to the back. Hmm.... He never smiled or said a word. The waitress arrived shortly after. She was pleasant. We ordered fajitas for one and a chicken and cheese quesadilla for lunch. Waitress brought salsa and chips while we waited. The chips were stale and the salsa was beyond bland. Never in my life have we seen fajitas so watery. I hate saying this but I think they may be the worst fajitas we ever had. We should know since one of us is from Texas and knows great fajitas. The skillet was watery, meat watery and rubber-like, and there was zero flavor... a big disappointment. The quesadilla had an odd flavor, was bland and has no taste. To be honest the food was God-awful and it's a shame to pay for food so poorly dine like that. I'm giving 1 star only because the waitress was pleasant. My native Mexican husband is always the best judge when it comes to authentic Mexican food. We ordered the steak tacos with some Jamaica (hibiscus flower juice). My husband always says if you want to know what's authentic with Mexican food, look at the tortillas and the hot sauce. This restaurant made both their hot sauce and tortillas homemade and it was simply delicious! The Jamaica was refreshing and definitely how we make it at home! My go to Mexican food place down the shore! The beef empanadas are out of this world. The refried beans are also delicious. The restaurant has the Mexican decor and has comfortable seating. I'm from northern NJ and we have excellent Mexican restaurants in my area. I'm always looking for places to try. So for this area I'm giving a 3. If this restaurant was in Northern Jersey a two star would be warranted. They start you off with complimentary chips and salsa. Will also give free refills. Chips are definitely out of a bag and salsa from a jar. We also ordered guacamole, which was very disappointing and not made in the restaurant. It had an aftertaste that many packaged guacamoles have. I had the taco salad with grilled chicken and my friend had Beef Chimichangas. For $8.99 the Taco salad was ok. Chimichangas were also just ok. The rice wasnt great. The food isn't the best and not the worst. The food is better than Taco Bell but surely not Northern Jersey cuisine. I will never order from here again. We placed an order through grubhub and sent the wrong order called the driver in front of me and asked him to bring it back. After another 40 minutes go by I called the restaurant and stated the driver had to go back again because they forgot something. The empanadas come with rice and the portions are definitely a good size- 3 big empanadas. However, be aware that the empanadas come drenched with lettuce, diced tomatoes and sour cream on top. That's strange for empanadas to have that on top and it's not mentioned on the menu. I definitely would have told them to leave those things off as I hate lettuce on top or under things and it made the empanadas soggy. Despite that, the empanadas and refried beans had great flavor. I decided to get the Al Pastor tacos and a Chicken/Steak combo fajitas. It only took 30 minutes to get that and a few other dishes our friends ordered. The Al Pastor was just ok honestly. The pineapple saved the sort of bland meat which is unusual for an al pastor taco but I still enjoyed eating it. I've just had better, a lot better. As for the steak and the chicken, they were shaped very weirdly and did not look naturally cut at all. Almost the way tofu looks like. Wow, this restaurant has excellent food and I cannot believe it's taken me this long to try them out. They have typical Mexican-inspired decor and murals on the walls - it's very quaint and fitting. The dining room tables and booths are PERFECTLY spread out; you don't feel on top of another table full of guests and there's plenty of breathing room to have a conversation without the table next to you listening in. It is also family-friendly as their menu includes kid meal options like chicken tenders and fries. The menu is massive and they have so many options, it can take a hot minute to decide what you want. But, I think whatever you end up choosing, you'll be happy with because the wet chicken burrito was literally the best I've ever had. First, this thing is huge, so come hungry or expect to take leftovers home. Second, all the ingredients make for such a flavor explosion, it's unbelievable. Third, it was only $11.99 and if you don't want it wet (wet comes in 2 ways - spicy and mild; I got mild - the green sauce...it has a slight sweetness to it and slight spice that is very tolerable because I NEVER eat spicy food), the regular, non wet burrito is $9.99, so super budget friendly. The wait staff was friendly and attentive; my waitress checked back often and refilled drinks quite frequently, so they were on point with this. I highly recommend and will return. On my first visit to Dos Amigos , I had very high hopes. Mr. L. Had sopes picadors , he had the plain chicken , and I had the tinga style , sauteed chicken , onion, and tomato served on corn meal cups. It looked impressive . But these corn meal cups were very thick and dense , I thought a little gummy and not light and crisp as expected. My corn meal cups were not finished. Taste was average for this Mexican dish , and as stated , the heaviness of the corn meal brought down the score several notches. Ms. H had sizzling Fajitas with steak. Lots of fresh red and green peppers, a fantastic sauce , and she raved about the flavors of the sauce and vegetables . It was served with beans and flat tortillas. Chips were decent with a good , but not extraordinary salsa , many would find palatable , but not spicy or hot , nothing to write home about. Fried ice cream in a hot fried tortilla shell was a unmitigated disaster . The tortilla shell was stale , and soon to be discovered , inedible , as stale oil and an old stale tortilla chip was spit from my mouth into the plate. I really should have sent this back to the kitchen , but I really like ice cream ! I informed the waitress of the inedible tortilla shell , and she stated she would tell the kitchen, but made no offer of another dessert or discount , which reflects poorly on them. So many places want to hear the positive , but will not rectify the problems , a sign of the times ? The ice cream was fine , and store bought , but does Amigos should really use fresh dough , and fresh oil. Talking with Mr. L. Later , we both had slight indigestion from old frying oil , which was used to fry the corn cakes. Frying oil must be kept filtered and clean . I will go again, but stay away from anything fried . I was vacationing in Cape May with my extended family and visited Dos Amigos in Rio Grande,NJ for a nice mexican dinner. This turned out to be disappointing and an awful place to go for dinner. The food sucked. It lacked flavor, extremely bland, including the salsa. The meats were boiled not grilled, low grade. The only redeeming feature was the waitress who was super nice. The ambience looked like a renovated taco bell meant to look authentically Mexican with some Latin radio softly playing. The food came out in generous portions. The paella was not the best I've ever had but not the worst. The rice was soggy from the seafood juice. The scallops were over done, the mussels and clams were only slightly over done, the shrimp were done perfectly and I didn't even touch the chicken due to personal preference however it was perfectly tender. Wow!! This place is legit! Just got take out and it was some of the best Mexican food I've ever had. Chicken burrito was delicious and the added packet of chopped onion, cilantro, jalapeños and lime was very much appreciated. The chicken flautas had a great crunch. The star of the show was the chicken corn soup. It was as authentic as it comes and was a surprising treat.
