Even before moving, I had done pretty extensive research for a trustworthy hair stylist in anticipation and Studio 89 was one of the top picks; even after monitoring my options over the span of a month, it remained the best. I tried to make an appointment online but had some technical issue so I called instead. This was all done the morning of, and yet they were able to have me come in later that afternoon. It's a clean, small space but it's got everything you can imagine. There's plenty of parking in front of the salon. Tiffany was my stylist, and I was warned that she was going to charge more than the other stylists due to her experience (note -- all stylists charge differently based on this). As a Californian who has paid way too much for the simplest of cuts, I can genuinely say Tiffany's surcharge was 1000% worth it. She was so kind and personable, and that really made the experience. She gave me her honest thoughts and was very communicative throughout the process. She really gave me the exact hairstyle I asked for after barely flashing her a photo, and I'm so endlessly impressed! Despite constantly cycling through short hair, I've actually never liked myself in it very much. However, Tiffany's work allowed me to feel more confident in rocking a short cut than I've ever felt! She did a trial of my hair a few months out which was great and allowed me to not worry when it came to the big day. She also had a wonderful waiting area in her salon where we could hang out while the other person was getting their hair done and she provided us with some snacks and mimosas which was really going above and beyond. She got all of us in and out in about 2 hours which is just what we had planned, causing no delays in our getting ready schedule. She used a combo of soft and hard wax, which is different from one of the reviews I read on here said that she only used hard wax. I was disappointed that she used a combo and would much rather prefer hard wax. Overall, the service was not great, but the actual waxing was fine once it was done. I probably wouldn't come back here unless I had a deal like the one I did.

I was excited about getting another deal for straightening my hair in this St. Louis love called Humdiity. It was in a small neighborhood on a semi busy street that you can park on. The parking lot was closed. Service: Friendly to indifferent. This is a neighborhood salon and there were many signs of permanence and chummy chatter with people who called. The other hair dresser that was there that night was cutting her cousin's (?) hair before they headed to the bar that night, so said. This hair straightening treatment was the non formaldehyde treatment, which is suppose to be healthier(?) or at least the one that will not cause cancer. The hair dresser was indifferent at best. She was knocking out the treatment and heading for home or bar as soon as she could. Treatment: The whole treatment burned my scalp, eyes..etc... I mentioned it to the hairdresser and she said it does that. The fumes got in my eyes and I started coughing. It was a horrible experience. The burning did not stop and I had to shower immediately when I got home. I don't know if this is why the treatment did not last or if it was because of her lack of experience. I am glad that my hair did not fall out. Please please research your salons before getting a groupon! It should have been a sign when there was no reviews on this salon at the time. :( Lesson learned. TLDR: Bluehair local salon with indifferent overtones. Careful of your hair if you go here. Do not get the straightening process done here. MANY places with experience to get it done. Some things are worth the cost. It is your hair..

He listened to exactly what I wanted with cut and color, asked questions to make sure he and I both knew exactly what I was asking for, offered tips and recommendations, and taught me how to take best care of my hair. He truly knows what he is doing and he is extremely talented at bringing to life his art. I also really enjoy the atmosphere at the hair lab, as it's very moody and elegant and clean. The staff are extremely kind and helpful and it was pretty easy to make my appointment. The price is well worth the service as well. I look forward to trusting Jacob with my hair again soon - which is a huge deal for me having grown up in fear of trusting hair dressers with my curls.
