The room has great energy, ocean views, glowing fireplaces, and a crowd that's clearly happy to be there. It's the kind of place where you settle into a chair, sip something strong, and suddenly two hours disappear. What makes it special is the live music. Local musicians play most nights from about 7-11pm, creating the perfect soundtrack for the evening. This past Saturday we stopped in after dinner at Nelson's on the property, an excellent combination. We caught Olivia Pucci, who lit up the Terranea lobby in a striking red dress, delivering smooth, soulful vocals that set the tone immediately. Her mix of pop, jazz, and mellow classics is perfect for cocktails and oceanfront vibes, backed by a tight trio on piano/keyboard and guitar. Honestly, this is Palos Verdes at its best: great drinks, live music, ocean air drifting in, and a relaxed crowd enjoying the moment. And I were so excited to come to - The Gingerbread lounge. Which is located inside their main lobby bar. It's a small little pop up bar decorated like a gingerbread house and other fun Christmas decorations (Anything at this resort is beautiful. Especially during the holidays) so it's safe to say the atmosphere is great. The gingerbread lounge offers -Cocktails -Mocktails -snacks / desserts. mostly cookies. They have about 12 different sweets. And it runs from -November 29, to Friday, January 2; weekdays from 4 to 10 p.m.; Saturdays and Sundays from 2 to 10 p.m.  Unfortunately, we got there and it was closed. There's a few different dates circulating around saying it closes on the 2, 3rd and one place Even said the 5th. A worker did say they closed before the end date though. (We should have called. Especially with a couple different dates circulating for the gingerbread lounge) So we were not able to enjoy the gingerbread lounge. However, they did have enough to make 2 different cocktails from their limited menu. Which I got the- CLAUSMOPOLITAN - Ketel One Oranje Vodka, Cranberry and Vanilla Bean Puree, Lime Juice and a Frosted Sugar Rim (I don't think they did the sugar rim. Which is fine. They were out of everything from the pop up bar) They were all out of the dessert options from the gingerbread bar So we ordered from the regular menu. We got a lobby seat. Which, the lobby is very nice. Has great seating, couches and etc. has a couple fire places. I went to the bar and asked them how it worked. I was able to have my drink made, and I took it to my table while he sent the waiter over to take our other orders. Carson was very very friendly. But since it was busy he really wasn't to be found I ordered the-MARGHERITA PIZZA fior di latte, tomato sauce, basil (This is a one size pizza, it's not huge, but it's great if you're sharing other things) this was delicious But I'll be honest. I came for the drinks. I asked the bartender at the main bar area if he could make me something special. I wanted the - pornstar (he laughed, and agreed to it) Carson, our server dropped it off at our table right at the same time as Michelle's drink came out. Michelle had the -EQUINOX * lyre's agave blanco, hibiscus, lemon (This was delicious AND beautiful. Loved the color of it) Michelle also ordered -CARAMEL CRÈME BRULEE CHEESECAKE caramel cheesecake, crème brulee, baci crust seasonal berries tossed in mango passion compote I then had the bartender pick a drink for me. He went with the very popular-UNDER THE PALMS. tito's handmade vodka, lillet rosé, lemongrass, pandan, lemon, coconut water Very refreshing! The handicap parking is up close and I don't have to pay a fee because the handicap sticker. (If you don't have a handicap sticker unfortunately the parking can be far or expensive) If you go to places like the Spa or restaurants closer to the water. They have people on golf carts take you all around the grounds to where you are going So I highly suggest not just coming to the lobby bar and to check out more of the resort. When I made our dinner reservation months ago, I received an immediate message from Chad, who works at the restaurant. He let me know that all of my requests had been acknowledged and that they would do their very best to accommodate them. I really appreciated that thoughtful communication, it made me feel like our celebration was already being taken care of before we even arrived. Of course, I'm always 15-20 minutes early because I respect time and don't like being late. When we walked in, Chad was the one who greeted us! He remembered our requests and seated us at the most beautiful table overlooking the ocean, exactly what I had hoped for. Our server, Brittany, was wonderful. She was warm, attentive, and had the biggest smile. I had quite a few specific requests, and she made sure everything was taken care of without ever making me feel like I was asking for too much. That kind of service makes such a difference. The food! We started with the oysters, corn soup, and Caesar salad of which were delicious. For our entrées, we ordered the sea bass and beef, along with a few sides. Everything was so good that we definitely had leftovers to take home. I don't eat as much as I used to, so that was actually perfect! Of course, we had to end the evening with dessert. When making the reservation, I clearly indicated that we were celebrating a birthday. When we checked in, I mentioned it again to the staff. After we finished our meal, I even got up and went to the concierge personally and reminded him that it was my mom's birthday and asked if they could bring out a nice dessert with candles to make the occasion special. I went back to the table and waited, expecting the dessert to come out. Instead, we were handed the bill by another server, making us feel like we were being rushed out. At that point, I followed her and explained that we had told multiple people that we were celebrating a special occasion and that nothing had been done. The entire experience was extremely disappointing and unprofessional. What should have been a special birthday celebration was completely ruined by the lack of communication and attention to such a simple request. After I told them not to bother anymore, they insisted on bringing something out anyway -- and what finally arrived was a frozen, overly sugary, cheap-tasting cupcake with a candle on top. At that point, it felt more like an afterthought than a genuine attempt to celebrate my mom's birthday. For a restaurant at a resort like Terranea, and especially considering how much we spent, I expected a much higher level of service and attention. We are locals who live in Palos Verdes and have been to Terranea and Catalina Kitchen multiple times before. Unfortunately, after this experience, I have no desire to return. The fries were great! Our server was taking her leave for the day and my family felt rushed because she did not ask if we wanted anything else and seemed to want us to pay before she left. I don't think this was done to be rude, but maybe she is on the newer side and needs a little more time or training. Again, not saying this to be harsh! She was a very kind person. Overall it wasn't the best lunch experience and part of me wishes I just had a latte and a quick bite. The dine in lunch menu doesn't seem up to par yet. One other thing I want to mention is that the signage is very limited and we had a hard time finding it at first. Just for context, it was my niece's high school graduation. A day to celebrate, turned into something that made me want to write this review. We came in around 730pm, a group of 10 that had an 8pm reservation. We were hoping to get seated early but didn't expect it if it wasn't available. No biggie, but 2 large groups went in ahead right when they were going to give us the menus and the other parties got in first. Didn't really start the right way already. But moving on. We were seated outside (we didn't request a specific inside/outside) so no expectation, but the patio was cold and we asked for a heater (which they had in view) and another party requested the drapes to be opened (which is fine) but we could've used the heater and it didn't come for another 30mins. When the heater did come, it wasn't turned on for a long while and when it did get turned on, it was blazing hot and we asked a staff to turn it down. The guy turned it off. All in all it was yet again another interesting interaction. Then comes the ordering, the restaurant has daily specials and the regular menu. The waiter went around and described the specials and when we asked about the prices (the regular menu had prices) the waiter said it was a secret. Maybe it was an attempt to be humorous, but after clarifying we wanted to know the prices the waiter asked which one and had a weird reaction to our question. It was all awkward and came off very off-putting. One of the water glasses had a bug in it and we asked for a replacement. Twice. The waiter didn't replace it for along time and then he said he didn't know we were asking for a replacement. The water glass that was put in as a replacement had fingerprints, and smears on the glass and at that point we didn't want to bother. We showed it to the waiter and he was apologetic and said they ran out of glasses. (Does that mean they're giving us dirty glasses bc they ran out?) We ordered a couple of items and I think there was a misunderstanding on the order and they brought out something that we mentioned we wanted but ultimately didn't order. A busser put put the calamari on the table and we told them we canceled it. The busser graciously took it away but the waiter put it back on the table. We told him we didn't order that and he actually argued with us that we did order it. He smirked when he took it away. We ordered items and the food started coming in after 40mins. (It was busy so understandable). But it was important to note that we ordered pretty quickly and our dishes came so late while other tables next to us had their food served quicker. We didn't order anything that requires elaborate time to prepare. When the food did come, the pizza came out cold but at that point we were just done with the place. They did comp the pizza, and told me that I should've said something so they can reheat the pizza. But the culmination of our experience overall really made us not even try to call the waiter. Some of the items were decent, but it is really hard to appreciate the food when the service felt like the food was served with a side of rude. Overall it was a pretty horrible experience and would never recommend this place.
