Sure, the place looks amazing. But the truth is, when you look closer there is much maintenance to be done. Leaking washing basin in the toilet, door handle that need repair, dents at various places, and little pieces of paint missing here and there. The menus were simply dirty and literally had ripped pages. And the service, the following sums it all up: Can I have the 'Che Chen Guest' password? 'No, we don't give the password any more cause customers stay too long'. Every table was booked from 18:00 onward the day I was there. This place is immensely popular. But to me it seems to be one of those places that is popular because it is so popular. The food tastes very good but isn't cheap.

Oh Chén Chè, I am so glad we found you! Fantastic food, friendly service and a very unique atmosphere reminding me of our last trip to Asia. The court out back is made to look as green and lush as possible in a city courtyard. Cody lanterns spread the Vietnamese flair that accentuates the flavors and let's you dream of sleepy Villages amidst jungle forestry. Perfect escape whether for an afternoon refreshment or a romantic dinner.

My favorite restaurant in my hometown Berlin. I looove this place! Stumbled upon it per coincidence four years ago, attracted by the little Zen garden in front of its doors. The interior atmosphere is warm, and despite the usual full house feels private. You can sit inside the traditional fine Vietnamese ambient or enjoy your meals in the bamboo garden in the back. Even the bathrooms are an experience. As for the food - I have never seen such a unique and exquisite menu - filled with meals, teas and shakes from Vietnam - outside of NYC. A very popular item is the traditional tea service served in the afternoon only. You can also enjoy a Concubine breakfast on the weekends. There are choices for people with gluten- and lactose intolerance, but make sure to ask the service staff for help. I can recommend the traditional rice platter with kimchi, veggies, broth, and chicken-curry sauce. The sticky rice with mango in coconut milk is a must for dessert. Don't leave without trying one of the homemade shakes and/or the espresso deluxe - a traditional Vietnamese cup espresso in coconut milk.

That's how big the tea cup is. It's quite large, probably around 2 normal tea cups. They're ok for sharing but way overpriced

Tea is ok, maybe good. The decorations are very nice and the smell and atmosphere are nice. But the service is quite bad. They're not very friendly and we asked for the tea-hour special before the 3-5pm time was up and they said even though it was before 5pm that it was too late and that there was no more cake. Funnily enough they said afterwards "but you may order some tea and the same pastries and desserts included in the special"....so then why can't we order the tea hour special if everything is there and it's before 5? It's because they wanted to get more money from us. Well they got theirs, we spent less money than if we had been given that teehour special, we're leaving an honest and fair bad review and I won't be recommending chen ché to anyone. The one extra star is for the decorations, ambience, etc. Everything else makes it not worth it. Tea is super overpriced by the way and way not that special. The wild passion fruit one was nice. The one with red rice don't order. They start at 3.60-3.90€ and end at 4,20-,50€ per tea cup.....super expensive. This doesn't include pastries, cake or anything at all...

Daily dishes with extra discount for business lunch! Take any, all are so tasty, but try a table set with small dishes if you want verity. Baby eggplant salad is another amazing finding. I love the place, everything - food, drinks, atmosphere- is magnificent. My favorite Vietnamese place in Berlin for 4 yeas. Yum! Good for groups, dates, babies. They have summer garden in the backyard.

I'm writing this review for a 'business lunch'. The design of the restaurant brings you to some distant place, far away from Berlin. It is located in the courtyard, you go through the gate, between some oriental trees and into the Vietnamese tea house. It's very pleasant feeling during a busy workday at the office. The decorations inside include live moss at the tables and hanging lights made of pasta. The service is friendly, but somewhat slow. Food is tasty and well priced. Lunch menu is between 6 and 8 Euro. I will probably go back there some other time, mostly because of the atmosphere.

This is such a cool place to dine in. I was hit with a strong but aromatic incense smell as soon as I walked in. There is a large lantern hung in the centre of the high ceiling along with many small lanterns scattered throughout the open space. The overall decor and ambiance creates an oriental and tranquil tea house vibe. Not to confuse you with the same as saying this place is quiet because it wasn't when I went, there were a lot of people so obviously it gets kind of noisy, but I do love the incense smell. Food taste the more amazing with it. I've only tried one curry dish here while I was in Berlin, which was not bad. The curry dish is divided into little dishes. I mean it's quite aesthetic. Taste wise it didn't really leave an impression, I just remembered it being good, but keep in mind that there are plenty of very good Vietnamese restaurants in Berlin, especially in the same area. I wish had more time to come back here and try out other items on the menu.

    Very nice atmosphere

A very nice atmosphere and ideal place for a date. Food is good and service is friendly. Drinks seem exotic but are very delicious.

The reviews were more than positive so I went and sat down and looked at the menu. That's when I noticed it was a vegetarian Vietnamese restaurant. I was fixated on chicken pho and was about to leave, when I thought the best of it and decided to stay and try it out. I ordered the Mi Quang, a spicy soup with mushrooms and tofu, and lo and behold, if it wasn't one of the best soups I've ever tasted! I was so happy that I decided to be adventurous! I was a little less adventurous the rest of the week, as I ordered the same soup three additional times as I couldn't get enough of it! Run - don't walk - to get the Mi Quang!

The wanton soup had fried dumplings instead of boiled which surprised me. The taste was great, but the soup was so oily as a result. You can see the layer of oil circling in the soup. If that's the secret to great taste, then sign me up. For my entree, I had ca bung, an eggplant tofu dish with tumeric and plaintains. Never had anything like this before. Most of the vegetarian vietnamese restaurants in Houston focus on meat analogs so I was pleasantly surprised. It tasted good but the dish played havoc on the digestive system later with the gas. It could have been the oily soup instead but I blame the novel dish with the soybeans.

I read that it is a long wait to get in but I was able to walk right in and sit at the bar. My server was so happy and laughing she made things so comfortable. She put up with my poor Vietnamese language efforts especially since I am better in Tien Viet than in German. I ordered chicken pho and a beer. She laughed so hard when I ordered tiger beer and I'm still wondering why. Possibly because Germany is famous for good beer but I ordered the popular Asian brew. The Hanoi pho came out in seconds not minutes and the broth was amazing. I detected some lemongrass in it. There was not a pile of leaves to add to it as everything it needed to taste good was already there. The interior decoration was very nice and classy. I hope to return.

So when I landed in the heart of Berlin (in Mitte), my first stop in Western Europe, I made a B-line without hesitation. The highlight here for me was the raw egg served in a separate bowl with broth. The egg poaches itself in the hot broth. And it's so good!! I haven't had this since I was in Hanoi all the time, and where it's commonplace. The pho bowls (triple beef combo & chicken pho) were just okay. Broth came out piping hot, but also heavy on the MSG. I swear I was drinking water non-stop all night. Also, they really skimp on the noodles. I mean, dry rice noodles are very inexpensive (fresh noodles aren't available here), and most places load up on the noodles. The deep fried breadsticks came out cold and somewhat hardened. We were there for dinner and I'm guessing they were fried much earlier in the day. Disappointing that they weren't even barely warm. Service was friendly, and apparently a popular spot in Mitte. I'm not well versed on pho in Berlin, but I probably wouldn't go out of my way to come here. There are actually quite a lot of pho spots in Berlin, which I subsequently tried and enjoyed more.

Broth nice clean and clear of grease. Generous amount of noodles. I had the pho tai but I think my meat was a bit too thick and cooked. It didn't taste like the usual thin rare slices. It came with bean sprouts (we had to ask for more; they give little compared to the US), basil, sliced chili peppers, and limes. Perfect. I enjoyed it so much that I didn't even add sriracha. That's when I know it's good. If you can ignore that lit up communist flag, pop in for a very good bowl of pho.
