I was in town for business and wanted a quiet and simple meal. This place was close to my hotel and…read moreI found it on my Yelp. So.... I came in for dinner and ordered the 6oz Filet medium rare it came with fries and green beans. It was very good. Not the best steak I've ever had - but it was a solid put together meal. The steak was very tender and satisfying. The service was very good. Perfect for what I was looking for. I recommend this spot if you want a well done and reasonably priced meal.

Was scrambling to find last minute dinner reservations for Grand Prix weekend and I recall someone…read morementioning St. Paul for steak frites. A couple of my friends experienced a flight delay on their inbound flight and St Paul graciously accommodated my last minute change. As others have noted, if you want to drink, simply byo. Unfortunately, I didn't check in my luggage and the wine shop nearby was closed. Place gets pretty loud so don't expect a quiet dining experience. Ordered a few starters which were all good. Caesar salad was tasty and am glad they didn't chop up bits of anchovies and include it with the dressing. Loved the crispy piece of bacon placed on top. The crevettes bang bang (fried shrimp) was also good. Be aware the aioli does have a kick to it!! French onion soup was also good but a tad bit salty for me. As for the entrees, we ordered the steak frites, bavette (iirc) and the scallops. Didn't particularly enjoy the texture of the bavette. Would recommend the normal frites. The scallops were exceptional and highly recommend that to those who don't want to eat beef. We passed on dessert as we were all stuffed. Will be back next year during Grand Prix weekend!!

I'm a die hard fan of Jack flat bbq since it's opening. But with the new menu, many thing change…read more The first thing you'll notice in that new menu is the daily special? Gone. . No more wonderful steak Philly on the Friday. Most of what was offered on that daily menu is permanently gone. They added many different poutine that actually existed before but part of a secret menu you could learn from their social network page. Some starter too. They change the recipe of some of the food. The Mac N cheese is now more creamier and the cheese is more present and flavourful. I never had it by itself, but in the poutine Mac TeX, it's a miss for me. It used to be the poutine I always take when I go there, poutine Mac TeX. Tried it 4 times already since the switch, always the same and I don't like it unfortunately. Maybe others don't. From the post they made on Instagram stating that it was now creamier due to popular demand, I guess that's how people like it. But I think people was taking it by itself and not into a poutine (I never see much people eating a mac te when I'm there). Also the new Mac N cheese on the Mac TeX make it you taste nothing except the creamy liquid cheese from the Mac N cheese, nothing else. I normally add the homemade steak sauce available on the table in the poutine and when I tried it with the new recipe, it wasn't good. I also trie the dirty Poutine. I totally forgot what it is. There's like 2 sauce, I think it's meat sauce? Sorry I really forget. It was good, but about half way through, I was done with the taste just like the current Mac TeX. I still finished it though. Again, it's not bad, everyone has different taste and I started by liking it. I had the same experience when eating the smashburger poutine after eating a smash burger. Don't do it, take either one, not both unless your really into the taste of smashburger cause that's the only thing you taste. Last time I went, I took again the smashburger double cheese and bacon, a must for me, and I took a regular poutine. First time in what, 2 years and at least 30 visit that I take the regular one. It was good. I do miss my og Mac TeX but it's a good replacement. The bonus is it cost about 10$ less and fill less, so I was able to take something off the desert menu for the first time. I toon the chocolate cake and it was very good. The service is always good when I go there. It might be a bit a miss when it's overbooked specially if your table is hidden In a corner (happened a bit in the past). The only reason I bring from 5 to 4 stars is only because I prefered the old menu and old recipe. I did talk to a staff last time about the Mac TeX recipe and was told sometime it's because of new chef. I guess he wasn't aware that the recipe actually change, he did seemed new since I hadn't seen him before. I'll talk to jack or one of the owner last time, not to bad mouth, simply to have feedback from customer on the menu.

First impression was how beautiful and spacious this restaurant is - it is really grand on all levels. High ceilings, tasteful and timeless decor, brick walls, open concept kitchen and even real hand towels in the bathroom, this was a nice touch. We were seated in the bar area, Michael was our server for the night. He was very friendly and great at providing recommendations. Our group enjoyed a 3 course meal and thoroughly loved all the foods we sampled. My main course of filet mignon was probably the most tender and delicious steak I've ever had. The garlic mashed potatoes, truffle fries and loaded baked potato were equally delicious. For those who got seafood, the flavors and cook were on point as well. In terms of decor, service and food, 40 West checked all the right boxes. If you are looking to celebrate a special occasion or want to feel like royalty, this is the place to be. Of course, there is a price tag - I found certain items quite expensive for value. Example the burrata appetizer with 3 slices of tomatoes, this was $31. When you add on a main meal or drinks and desert it can easily reach $300 for two people. I am not someone who is used to fine dining so this was a bit out of reach but worth it for a celebration. I would consider coming back just for a main meal as the steaks were excellent.
