Yes, it's a chain. However, the menu options can be quite tasty and have a certain..."clean" taste. My particular favorite, the fish tacos (I usually get one grilled, the other fried), consist of a large filet of fish with coleslaw, jalapeno cream sauce (think ranch combined with a light jalapeno flavor) on a corn tortilla. The meal is accompanied by rice (pick the chili rice) and charro beans. Very tasty and very filling. I have yet to try the happy hour, but I've heard that the free nachos and great drinks are tremendously popular. Most locations tend to have a wait time, but don't worry, its actually worth it. read more

It's a restaurant!!!!take out lady finally came over and I asked her why the bar tender can't place a takeout order.. she threw out attitude and told me it was up to the bartender if she wanted to take the order!! I have hired Chuy's many times for catering events at Baylor. The price is reasonable, the food delicious and they are easy to work with. We had to get 200 people through a buffet line in less than 30 minutes and the Chuy's staff did this. They are also very friendly. I strongly recommend Chuy's. read more

Great TexMex chain in TX and outside TX. Always busy and packed with people having some good TexMex. I ordered the beef fajita tacos with flour tortilla.It came with beans and rice. I was not able to finish the platter because it came with so much food. We also ordered guacamole to go with the complimentary chips and salsa. The guac was fresh and great. The best Tex-Mex straight outta Austin comes to Waco. Chuy's is an awesome experience, start to finish. To me, it is the gold standard of mexican by which all other restaurants are measured. FOOD: delicious. Cheesy. Filling. Just spicy enough. Creative. Chips and salsa are hands-down the best I've ever had in Waco. I almost always eat a big-as-yo-face burrito. Save half, eat it later... it's like cold pizza, so wrong but so ::right:: SERVICE: not as alternative-cutesy or enthusiastic as the Austin crew, but no complaints. PRICE: it's not cheap, especially by Waco standards, but it's well worth it. The prices were less than El Chico or Elite Grill for sure. The bill for enchiladas including tip comes to right under $10, if I remember correctly. ATMOSPHERE: sooo many fun decorations. Kind of loud. Music: I've heard them play country here, which is sacrilege!! (compared to other Chuy's). Get some classic rock or something in there. The only bad things is it's too wonderful for it's own good - i.e. expect some crowds on the weekends. Still. The best meals I've ever had in Waco. I wouldn't lie to you. I ordered online for curbside pickup. I ordered 2 family meals: one of tacos and the other fajitas. I looked through my order and noticed they did not give me my taco shells, so the lady went inside to get them. As I was going through stuff, I noticed they also missed giving me creamy jalapeño and salsa. The lady came back out with the taco shells and I told her the salsa and jalapeño dip was missing - she said "there should be a paper bag with them in it". I showed her there was not one, so she went back in the get it. She came out and asked me to open the back of my car again where the food was because she wanted to make sure I didn't overlook it after I had already showed her - I had to dig all of it out again to prove to her I wasn't lying about it. She gave me the bag with the dips in it. I drove home (40 min away) and realized I was still not given everything. They missed my rice too! I regret giving them a $20 tip. My wife and I were in town for our daughter's graduation and we decided to check Chuy's out. The service was very good, the drinks were great, and we enjoyed our food. I have been to Chuy's in Dallas many times, and the Waco location is much the same goodness. I haven't found much on the menu that I don't like, and the Hatch Green Chile sauce is a certain winner, if you are up for medium-hot culinary fare. My girlfriend and I drove down from Dallas to take in the sites and get away from the big city for a few days and stayed at a nice hotel within walking distance of the restaurant. I phoned our order in and gave the order taker my first and last name and SPELLED my last name to her. Upon reaching the restaurant, the waiting area was a mass of confusion due to the childish 16 year old ladies trying to seat people. I told one girl that I had placed a carry out order and gave her my last name. She returned only to tell me that they had no order under under that name. I stood there puzzled and out of desperation I gave her my first name which as it turned out was the name that the order taker used even though I spelled my last name to her. Unfortunately the food was not that good. The tortilla chips that they used for the nachos were much too thick and my taco salad was made of shredded lettuce, tomatoes, cheese and ground beef. Each ingredient had been scooped out of a container and plopped into the take out box; not much presentation there. Taco Bell does it better. read more

Starting with the free chips, these were already subpar. So many of them were so oily that they were literally bendy and not edible. The dipping sauces were different in a good way, but were just hard to enjoy with the lack of good chips. The food was dry and lacking creativity. I ordered the Southwestern enchiladas and it was just two blue corn tortillas stacked onto of each other with a bit of chicken in between them. The over easy egg on top did very little to help with the dryness. Not the most enjoyable meal but the atmosphere is great: similar to a mix of Buca's and Rosa's combined (family style and colorful). read more

My wife and I go to Waco every Christmas to visit her parents. I love Mexican and Tex-Mex food, so we decided to try Chuy's Fine Tex-Mex, which had just opened in Waco a few weeks earlier. Chuy's is a small chain based out of Austin (4 restaurants as of late 2009). I am not a big chain food fan, but I went in with an open mind and was pleasantly surprised! The parking lot was packed when we arrived, but we were seated within 10 minutes. Everything about our dining experience exceeded my expectations! The service was excellent, the menu had a wide selection and the prices were VERY reasonable (nearly all dinners were under $10). My wife had a "Dot" frozen margarita that she enjoyed. I had their "Elvis Presley Memorial Combo", which consisted of a beef Tex-Mex enchilada, cheese Ranchero enchilada, chicken Tomatillo enchilada, beef taco and tortilla dipped in queso. Everything tasted very fresh and flavorful, and there was enough to take home for lunch the next day. My wife had the "Chicka-Chicka Boom-Boom" enchilada which was good as well. Overall, I was very impressed with Chuy's as a good quality and budget-friendly restaurant. I will visit one again when I am back in Texas! read more

A family favorite for us!! When we want to eat out, this is typically our go-to. The creamy jalapeño is probably one of my favorite foods in the world! I typically get the chicken fajitas or deluxe chicken enchiladas. My husband gets a fajita chicken burrito, and my child gets the kids bean burrito. All are great, yummy choices. There are sometimes longer lines around 530-7pm that you will have to wait 20-25 min for, but the food is worth the wait! My husband recently had an issue with his burrito (he wanted something left off) and asks if it could be fixed. Not only did they fix it and comp his meal, the comped our ENTIRE meal. The manager and the rest of the staff are all fantastic. read more

Creamy jalapeno sauce. Need I say more? They're stingy with that stuff though, so unless you ask for it directly...you won't get it. And trust me, you want it. I've been known to go through a few bowls at one sitting. Besides that obvious treasure, they do have pretty decent tex-mex and pretty great service. The atmosphere is fun & laidback. Come casual or dolled up...and don't forget the creamy jalapeno sauce. The food is great! Probably why this location is always so busy. We went on a Friday and there was one spot open in the parking lot but we were still seated within 20 minutes. Although it was a madhouse I was blown away by the friendly staff. My daughter (she's 4 years old) told our waiter to give her compliments to the chef. Our waiter actually took the time to find the chef and tell him this. All of a sudden Jacob, our chef, came to our table and said thanks to my daughter. It made her week! Just before leaving the restaurant Jacob came back and brought my daughter a very nice gift. Again...it was busy but that didn't stop our waiter and chef from appreciating a compliment from a very friendly 4 year old. If you've never had Chuy's you should really try it. Same as all the other Chuys... Love the creamy jalapeno, their queso is great. Chuy's is great Tex-Mex, although a little different than your usual Tex-Mex place, they have their own spin on things. Try the boom-boom sauce on a burrito or enchiladas... Love the chili rellenos, cheese enchiladas, and my all time fave is the big as yo' face bean burrito with deluxe tomatillo, sub green chile rice. (get a to-go container and split that big boy in half right away!) Yummy! Unfortunately I don't care for their margaritas at all, they're to sweet or something... I like Dos Equis or the New Mexican Martini (has chile pepper in it, which cuts out the sweet). read more

Usually this a great place to eat but tonight the service was extremely slow. Our waiter didn't come to our table for quite a while. I was about to go to the front desk to ask for someone to take our order, drinks, chips and salsa. The young man finally came but again extremely slow. He never refilled my water or salsa until our dinner came. If I wanted better service and a water refill maybe I should have stayed at home. Very sad!!!!
