Finally catching up on the reviews of a trip we took in January... this was a last minute swap - I'd written down in my list of things to do, that San Gines had gotten a ton of recommendations for being the best, must-try churros. Then once we were already in Spain, last minute, I did more research and saw a bunch of other people saying San Gines was overly touristy and had gone way down in quality, so I was wondering if there was a new place that was... not as much of that. As it turns out, there was, and it was down the street from our hotel, so obviously we went there (here) instead.
Verdict, having tried the churros and obligatory dipping chocolate: I would absolutely have housed several more churros to myself, so for the price (super cheap), next time I would definitely lean towards *under-estimating* how many churros to get. On the other hand, the chocolate was a lot larger than I expected for the price (also cheap) - not quite as thick as "drinking chocolate" I'm used to, but definitely thicker than the American style "hot chocolate" I'm used to. I absolutely could've shared one cup of it with my wife. Great chocolate, though, for dipping and for drinking.
Only down side, it is absolutely 100% to-go-only, they have zero seating of any kind. We had to wander around a bit to find public seating. Definitely would be better if you happened to be talking them somewhere nearby that allows outside food. read more
