Well, it wasn't horrible. But it wasn't outstanding either, so that's a middle-of-the-road rating, no? So, I love fried chicken. When I make it at home, it's the best of anybody's out there, so when I get take-out, I always rate it against my own fried chicken. Mom was Southern, so I learned from The Pro. The main reason we're going middle-middle is because although there was a nice crisp on the chicken tenders, they seemed to miss seasoning, especially salt and pepper. There was no detectable seasoning. We both ordered a five-piece tenders. The tenders themselves were a decent size. I saw in reviews that some customers received much skinnier ones, and posted subsequent pictures. Ours were fine. So the even decent size meant the fry made them turn out tender and moist. But they didn't wow me. My meal came with a southern sweet tea, which was very sweet but good and a honey biscuit, which I didn't try. There was supposed to be some sort of dipping sauce, but there was none in neither order. This was a par for the course dinner, and not overly expensive. I would go again and try something else because their price point is good and the chicken breading is tasty, even though not with the greatest seasoning. Ever since the Church's location up in Oceanside closed I've been totally missing their yummy legs and thighs. Sure this Church's is rather run down and in need of some cosmetic TLC but you know what, when you travel to the Southern United States most of the really good chicken places are not located in 4 star hotels. As a matter of fact, you'll find really good chicken in gas stations and shacks. So I pulled up to the drive thru, avoiding the giant pothole, and ordered. The guy who who helped me was super friendly and helpful and honored my $21.99 14 piece leg and thigh meal. He was working by himself in this small building and hustled to get me my order quickly and accurately. My chicken was hot, perfectly crunchy, and juicy and the slaw was super fresh. I was chicken happy. So with a little spiffying up this Church's location would be golden. That said, during this time of Covid I sure as hell AM NOT gonna be trash talking fast food workers or business owners who are f'ing working their butts off just to survive! So many of my friends remain unemployed and scores of my favorite eateries have closed. I've been to this location a hand full of times and almost every time the food I get is not what I ordered or incomplete. I purchased a three-piece dark the chicken looked done, but it tasted burned. It seemed to be overcooked. The breading was dark brown, as opposed to a golden brown I equate that to old grease. Change out the grease when it is needed to be changed. Taking shortcuts as such will eventually put you right out of business. Some people can't cook chicken by a recipe. Done with this place. I ordered a 3 pc tender combo and a small order of jalapeno poppers. First of all communicating with the staff there is almost impossible. They speak little to no English and I had to keep repeating myself. Then when my order was ready, they tried to send me off without my drink (always have to remind them). They forgot my drink again. Yup and not the 1st time I have to ask for my drink. Then I get back to work and my jalapeno poppers were not in my bag. I have no jalapeno poppers. My tenders were soggy. Not even near crispy and the coating was way to thin. They had to make them because I declined the spicy ones they wanted to give me. Apparently they didn't want to cook them so the cooked them half ass in a hurry and there was no one else in line and only 1 car at the drive through so they were not even busy, just LAZY! And then to boot, my coleslaw was not fresh. It was old and SOGGY. If I did not have to go back to work I would have went back and got a refund. Finally, the look on the employees faces is that of someone who doesn't want to be there. They are older ladies and you can tell they don't like their job. There is a drive through but it was super packed & I just tinted my windows so I couldn't roll them down yet. The girl who took my order was rude & just seemed like she was over her job. I placed an order & requested jalapeño poppers. She asked me regular or large. Before I asked my question she literally cut me off to answer. I was going to ask, "How many does..."
