On viewing the Menu, we optimiscally wondered why it had been five years since we visited the Church House. Sadly, by the end of our visit we were reminded. The bar manager and the restaurant manager were both attentive and obliging and it is only for this reason that we felt the venue deserved more than one star.
My wife and I shared a plate of Nachos as a starter that were more mediocre than we have experienced elsewhere. My wife had a salad main; the principle component (the salad) of which was limp and tasteless. There was nothing to redeem the dish which just a good quality dressing could have helped. I had a berger with prawn an mayo topping and 'fries', the latter of which I asked to be well cooked to ensure crispiness. The berger had the potential to be good had it not been overcooked, the 'fries' were in fact chips and despite their being returned to the kitchen, were still floppy and disappointing. As for the prawn topping; I have never seen such minuscule examples that had absolutely no taste whatsover.
No wine list; which, for a drink orientated establishment, is poor.
A shame, as a convenient and characterful restaurant to which we would otherwise have happily returned. read more
