I've been to Mexico several times and the ambiance and decor inside the restaurant is exactly what you can expect to find in most Mexican cities plus there is an ever expanding outdoor seating area which is fantastic on a nice day. The service is great, the staff is always super friendly and the food is truly authentic Mexican. I've been coming here several times a month ever since they opened and I've never had a bad experience. My advice, don't listen to the lame negative reviews and go try this place out for yourself. I am a former chef and still a true foodie and this place is always at the top of my list when I think about where I want to go for dinner! read more

Finally a great Mexican Grill in Spring Hill. Opened this week at the SW corner of Spring Hill and Mariner. Had dinner there last night and it was a real treat. Greeted and seated quickly and enjoyed the complimentary warm chips and salsa. They serve Coke products (yea) and ordered the Dos Burritos. Came out with rice and beans. The chips were warm and the salsa was pretty good so I was really excited for my dish, I got the chicken chimichanga (my go to at any restaurant) and I wasn't at all pleased it tasted pre frozen and had a bad aftertaste I had to smother sour cream all over it ($1 up charge for extra sour cream) and the sauce they poured over it was just awful. We went the first week they opened and while the food was good then, we knew they had some kinks to work out with everything. So we waited and went back last night, a few months later. Everything from the food, atmosphere and service were way better this time. We had the chicken nachos and as soon as we finished eating them we wanted more. We also had the fish tacos (with corn tortillas) and the chicken tacos (with flour tortillas) and both were great. They serve liquor now too, so we were able to drink margaritas with our meal, which made the whole experience. We will definitely be back to dine here. read more

Just moved here 5 weeks ago. Have tried 5 or 6 Mexican restaurants in the Port Richey, Hudson, New Port Richey area. EVERY one of them the food or the service or both was horrible. Found Chulas in an app on my phone and figured what the hell. Can't be worse than the other 6. WELL OMG!!!! This place was the best Mexican restaurant we've been to in years!! We got greeted as soon as we entered by a delightful server. The inside of this place is like you were at Disney with all the colors and detailed seating area. The server Asuale(?) was amazing. He asked what we liked and made suggestions. I ordered the Spinach pork quesadilla with rice and refried beans. My wife ordered chicken with rice and beans. Her big piece of chicken had been marinated with amazing flavor. My quesadilla left me speechless. This thing had to be at least a half and inch thick FILLED with Spinach, tasty tender pork with onions and peppers and refried beans and rice. I only made a dent in my meal. Ended up with 3 boxes to take home. Before the meal we ordered a Guacamole appetizer. Nice semi chunky and tasty and of course chips and home made a little spicy salsa. The best part was my bill was $38.00!! OMG!! This place now has a customer for life. The drink specials and happy hour are to die for. read more

Ordered 3 lunch specials to-go for me and the guys at work. The lady on the phone said 20 minutes. Sounded good to me. I like to give restaurants extra time because I myself don't like being rushed. I waited 30 minutes and left (they are 3-4 minutes from our shop). The lady said it would be right out. After 17 minutes of waiting and "just 1 more minute" a few times the food finally came out. Got it back to the shop. Food quality and taste was great! The burritos were excellent. The tacos were great. But the service I received not so much. However I will return because I always believe in giving a restaurant second chances. read more

I was excited to see a new Mexican restaurant had opened in Spring Hill so tried Chulas on Friday (4/17) and was more than disappointed. The food was terrible, the margaritas a joke (they only had one type of tequila and whatever mix that was used tasted awful), and the service was horrible. The menu has changed. Prices are high and food is basic. I came here to have a great meal and sat outside. Had to endure cigarette smoke, basic and very bland Mexican food. Pay for chips and added $8 for guacamole that was horrible and salsa without a kick. If you want American Mexican food, this is your place. A table that was never cleared, watery sangria and a total disappointment. I find that Coyote Rojo #4 is the place to go! Skip Chulas and avoid being disappointed! Save yourself a buck or two. This place sucks. They have a corner on the market literally. Their food is overly spicy, greasy, and cheap-cheesy. They charge you a buck and a half for extra nacho chips!! And, if you share a plate, they tack on an extra THREE AMERICAN GREENBACKS!!! pretty upset w Chulas. The last time I went their food was pretty bad, as far as the rice and beans having a very bland taste and the taco shells being stale. Service was bad as well. .. however I have had their chimichangas before which were pretty good, hard to mess up fried dough w cheese on top. I usually get a vegetarian chimi, but half veggies and half rice n beans inside bc the veggies are just too much. I've honestly had it several times, at least 5, home run every time. I'm pregnant and craving Mexican, so I figured I'd call up there and give them another shot after not going back since the taco incident... the guy on the phone said "no they can't do that'" when I asked about my usual order. I asked him if he was sure bc I've had it several times.. he asked the kitchen and they said no as well. I have eaten here 3 times and 3 strikes. They are in no hurry that is for sure. Beef Toco meat to chummy for me the taco kit you buy in the store was way better. Like no effort to be great or even good. The Rice and beans had nothing special to them either. They did not even put that good cheese on the beans. The rice was very plane to. 2 taco rice and beans to go $11.00 way to much. If they do not get a better cook they will not be there long. To bad it is a great location for one. read more
