Tried Chuckwagon the other night and walked away with mixed feelings. The brisket was decent--cooked well enough--but it lacked the seasoning and depth of flavor I was hoping for. Sides were fine, nothing to write home about. Dessert was a bit of a rollercoaster. The apple pie tasted slightly off--maybe the filling was not as fresh. But the peanut butter pie? That was the highlight of the meal. Creamy, rich, and easily the best part of the experience. The total for dinner for two with dessert came to $70, which felt a bit steep given the overall quality. It wasn't a bad night out, and I had a good time, but with so many other solid options in the city for less, I'm not sure I'd go back.

The food is amazing! Burnt ends are delicious! I got a beef rib yesterday (they do them on Fridays) best beef rib I have ever had. The topping for the BBQ is amazing. You have to try the sweet jalapeños! The service is nothing but amazing! Very friendly staff! The place is great to eat at. Well decorated. It's nots crazy loud and over all this place is the best in town!

Texas Sampler with 4 sides and an order of burnt ends.

Decided to try ChuckWagon BBQ for the first time and our visit was just ok. Since we couldn't decide what we wanted, we ordered the Texas Sampler which came with pulled pork, chicken, brisket, sausage and 4 small sides. We ended up getting their Mac and Cheese, green beans, coleslaw, and baked beans. Our sampler also came with 2 pieces of cornbread. We also decided to order some burnt ends. We decided to eat at the restaurant and to our surprise, asked for water and we were given kiddie cups which we super small and had us going back quite frequently to the drink machine for more. After spending almost $70, not sure if the food was worth it. It seemed like for that much, we would've received more food. The meat was ok. Not "as seasoned" as we preferred and the chicken was somewhat on the dry side. The burnt ends were full of fat so by the time you cite that away, not enough meat was left. The sides were pretty decent... again the seasoning was just ok. And again for the price, 2 small scoops of sides just didn't seem reasonable for the amount.

Service was great! I had the pork sandwich, and spicy bbq sauce. It was piled high with pork. As my side I had the potato salad; perfect, just like my grandmas. Service was mediocre, but it's more like a cafeteria style where you order and you take your tray to the register to pay. The decorations were nice, not overbearing. The staff were friendly.. I will definitely be back. Keep in mind their hours though, they close at 2. open back at 5Pm Tuesday-Saturday. Closed Sunday and Monday.

As others have stated the food is a bit overpriced, but the meat is cooked to perfection and sauce hits the spot. Their sides are decent: the green beans have brisket in them, the Mac & cheese was good , and you get to choose between Texas toast or jalapeño cornbread. Don't skip dessert it's made on sight and the banana pudding is perfect. FYI: updating my review because they now give free cups for water (previously they just had bottled and that didn't sit right). They also didn't charge extra for the BBQ sauce. This is still accurate: What really got me was the owner's attitude . No matter what he just wants to argue. We came in to have a bite to eat and spent $40 on two people. We ate and wanted our food to settle but he just wanted his tables cleared and people to move on. He went on a huge tirade that he's a Trump supporter . Good for you but I came to eat , not discuss politics. We mentioned we like to support small business and tip well, because it's the right thing to do in these trying times. He was annoyed to hear that too, apparently prefers no tipping. He admitted that tip you leave at the register, goes to the owner not the employees . This guy was intent to vent and go off on a tangent . Not what you expect when you go to enjoy a meal and support local. Have more faith in your customers, we aren't all bad people, until you treat us like crap.

Brisket plate adding a spicy sausage. I skipped the cornbread.

This place is a quick stop for some pretty decent bbq. You can get in and get out fairly quickly. I went for the brisket and added the spicy sausage. I really appreciate the fact that they will chop your sausage link for you before serving it to your plate. If you ever had to wrestle a sausage casing with a plastic knife, you'd understand. They also serve the plates with a piece of corn bread and two sides. Over all this place is a great place to grab some quick and tasty bbq.

The interior decor is really homey and country. The staff very pleasant and attentive. Restaurant very clean. I got the 2 meat combo - ribs and sausages with green beans, mac n' cheese with jalapeño cornbread. The ribs was a little dry but it fell off the bones (in a clump). The tendon part or soft bone ends of the ribs were tender, juicy and tasty. The rest of the rib was very dry, had a bitter taste and not a lot of flavor. It needed tons of bbq sauce to make it pleasant. The sausages were ok. The green beans was flavorful but the broth was very salty. Mac n' cheese was cheesy and creamy. The macaroni was just overcooked. Jalapeno cornbread - it was ok. It was on the dry side - not sure if it was supposed to be that way. The brisket - that was juicy, tender and delicious! No bbq sauce needed.

    Smoked Wings!

Chuck Wagon serves Texas BBQ, very good BBQ, not NC style for those with bad taste buds. I had ordered the smoked wings and spicy sausage and it was great. The wings had great flavor, not over cooked, wonderful caramelization and the spicy sausage was great. The staff was very kind and patient. The atmosphere was peaceful and reminiscent of TX BBQ joints. It's nice to see great tasting variety. I will be back!

The food was good and had a nice range of items. Didn't really care for some of the decor, but that's my issue.

The chicken is greasy and unseasoned...way over priced! The baked beans were horrible! Would not recommend at all!

But I came to see the band, food was really just a bonus. The food itself was really good - I had fried green tomatoes with pulled pork. The fried green tomatoes were fresh and crisp. The pork, however was room temperature. Honestly, if I had known about the flies, I doubt that I would have even considered eating tepid pork. There was a slight drizzle of sauce but I had to go back up and request sauce. Other reviews mentioned the saltiness of the dish. If anything, it was under seasoned. I bought my grandson a chicken finger kids meal and subbed mac and cheese for the fries. The meal came with three large house made tenders. They would have been enough for me (unfortunately the fly infestation made leftovers unthinkable.) Like the tomatoes, the tenders came sans sauce necessitating another trip to the counter. He devoured the mac and cheese. It was a little soupy and had kind of congealed sauce around the edges before it was even served. I'd order it for him again but not for me. Oh, and ask for a spoon before you leave the counter. The fork that came with was for all intents and purposes useless. (Yes, another trip to the counter). The patio is a great venue. Grab a beer, grab a seat and enjoy the band. As for food? Maybe wait until winter when the flies are gone.

There is limited seating space, so plan to take it to go or have it delivered with either grub hub or door dash. Hush puppies are smaller than what I would expect, but you get 4 as a small. Medium is 8, and large is 16. Upgrade to at least an 8, because they will be gone too quickly and you will wish you had more. Flavor is good, a little on the salty side but that is a plus for people who love salt. Tartar sauce tastes freshly made, but has a hint of spicy sweet pickles (not dill, unless it is a mix of both). One odd mix is it comes with a slice of white loaf bread (not homemade nor is it toasted with butter, which is almost what I would expect with a fish plate). It was separated from the baked beans with parchment paper, so the bread did not get messy nor moist - but I would like to see this elevated to something else. The baked beans are basic baked beans. Not much flavor, so if you like blandish beans they are ok. I will skip the baked beans next time and try a different side item. The catfish is the main feature in this dish. It is fried with a seasoned batter, this is probably where the salt comes from in the hush puppies. The fish goes well with the tartar sauce, but I ran out of that with the first fillet (so get at least two tarter sauces). There are portions of the fish with more seasoned fried batter than fish. One plus side for those with kids is I did not run across any bones. I think next time I will try their bbq baked potato, double down on the jalapeño hush puppies and order before they cook too many catfish fillets. I think 4/5 is a fair rating. It is not "catfish cabin" from my childhood, but nothing ever is. It did satisfy a catfish craving, and for those who want catfish - it is at least is a decent option.
