While driving past a strip mall, I noticed a giant (gigundo) smoker and piles of wood in the parking lot behind the building. If I hadn't seen that, I'd never have known that a BBQ even existed there. That smoker was what brought us in. As we read the menu, we were told that only some things were available right now. The brisket I wanted to order wouldn't be ready for another hour. Macaroni and cheese? This afternoon. I settled on a pulled pork plate with baked beans and broccoli salad. Hands down the best broccoli salad I've ever had. No onions. Perfect. The baked beans were right up there in the top 10, maybe top 5 of all time. The pulled pork? Ehh. Not the best. A little dry. The plate was served in to-go box, a very full to-go box - the amount of food served was astounding. I planned on bringing home extras to serve to the family for lunch the next day. By now the brisket was ready. I also ordered a large baked beans, green beans, banana pudding and a pound of chopped chicken to go. The mac and cheese still wasn't done. The meat had great flavor but all of it was a little dry. All of the sides absolutely rocked. I will definitely be back but I'm going to call first - I want my mac and cheese please. Decided to go here yesterday it always smells so good! Glad I did !!! I ordered two (2 meat) meals with 1/2 chicken , ribs , Mac /cheese and baked beans!!!! It came with 2 slices of bread as well as bbq sauce and a white sauce ... I was greeted by the owner immediately and my order was placed.. Went to lunch today. Had a rib plate with Mac and cheese and potato salad. The Mac n cheese was served to be burnt. It was horrible the ribs were so dried, that I know they had be cooked three days ago. I had my Mac n cheese replaced with bake beans and they were simply bushes bake beans. The bar q sauce is just baby rays. The only that was tasty was the banana pudding. I should have thrown out the Mac n cheese off my platter, bc by the time I got home the smell of the burnt went through the dried ribs. Ruined the entire plate. Never going back. I took the rib meat off the bone and soaked it in a vinegar bar b q sauce I made and let it sit in the warm over hoping to bring moisture back to the rib hoping the vinegar would break down the rib. After two failed attempts, I finally got the chance to try Joe Mo's! On the whole, it was definitely above average and I'm glad I got to mark another Huntsville-area bbq restaurant off my list! This small shop is located on the corner of a somewhat dilapidated shopping mall. Look for the Ollie's Discount Store; then you'll know you're in the right place! The signage is nondescript but you can see a big smoker behind the building. Always a good sign. :) We arrived right at opening time at 11 AM on Thursday. The inside is simple: a chalkboard menu on the wall, two or three tables with chairs, an upright cooler with canned drinks, and a single bathroom in the back. Their menu has lots of bbq favorites: smoked chicken, pulled pork, ribs, sausages, wings, etc. Sides are simple and standard bbq fixings, like baked beans, slaw, and potato salad. On Friday and Saturday, they have broccoli salad and macaroni and cheese. Looked like a one man show when we were there; we saw him working out back and waited a few minutes for him to come inside to place our order. But what a nice man he was! He was apologetic about the wait and super service-oriented; he insisted we sit so he could deliver our food to us, and would not let us pay until we'd eaten our lunch and ensured it was to our satisfaction. He had a jovial and energetic demeanor and it was a pleasure to interact with him. For lunch, my mom and I both ordered smaller sized pulled pork sandwiches. I had a bag of chips and a Pepsi with mine and she ordered a small side of potato salad. Think we got out for less than $15 for both of us; not too bad for these days. Our food was brought out in to-go bags; I think everything comes out that way whether it's really to go or not. Overall, this was solid bbq. It didn't vault to my new favorite spot, but it's definitely a top 5 in Huntsville, for me. You can come here and you definitely won't be disappointed. The pork was smoky and pulled into good sized pieces. The sauce that came in a cup on the side was medium thickness and a nice balance of sweet and tangy. Very good sauce, as far as I'm concerned. It covered up the pork's one weakness, which was that it was a tiny bit dry. 4/5 though. Mom liked the potato salad. Also brought husband home a half rack of ribs. They were reasonably priced at about $15. He really, really enjoyed them. He said almost 4.5/5. Like me, his one criticism is they were a tiny bit dry/tough, but not distressingly so. My only major complaint: it was hard finding a time when they were actually open. Like I mentioned earlier, visited twice when Google and Yelp BOTH said they were open, only to find that not to be true. It seems Facebook has the most correct times on there, and I believe I was successful in updating Yelp's hours, at least. For now, it looks like Thursday - Saturday from 11-7 is go time. Just something to keep in mind when planning your visit. Aside from hiccups with opening hours, I'd definitely recommend you give this place a try for some pretty good bbq. read more

I stopped in for lunch as my first visit. The restaurant has a small dining room with 4-5 tables. The place was busy with folks at the tables and cars going thru the drive thru. The menu is not extensive because all items are smoked fresh that day. I ordered a small chopped pork and a large chopped pork sandwich to go (I ordered no sides today). It was ready in less than 3 minutes. The barbecue sandwiches were generous, fresh, nice and hot and they tasted delicious. The sauce was very tasty and made the sandwiches tangy and juicy. Joe Mo's Ba-Ba-Que is a small hole-in-the-wall barbecue joint located in a corner spot in the Madison Village shopping plaza in Madison, Alabama. With no real street visibility, I have passed by this place countless times and have never noticed it before. For a landmark, look for the shopping plaza with the Ollie's Bargain Outlet and the Old Time Pottery. They have a smoker set up in the parking area behind the store and the aroma coming from it was intoxicating. Walking in, it was a little discouraging to see the place was empty at high time lunchtime. However, the young man behind the counter was friendly, professional and helped me with a few recommendations of his favorites. I opted to go with the chicken plate and for my sides, I chose the macaroni and cheese and baked beans. All the chairs were stacked on the tables, so I'm assuming they're discouraging dine-in eating, so I got my food to go. The macaroni and cheese was a bit bland, but nothing a little salt and pepper could not fix and the baked beans were a bit watery. The two pieces of bread were a bit stale. However, the chicken was pretty stellar. I enjoyed both the Alabama white sauce and the red barbecue sauce that came with it, as well. Oh my gosh, probably in the top three of the absolute best BBQ I've ever had. Ordered the half BBQ chicken plate, smoked thoroughly, juicy, delicious incredibly good. Came with two sides, ordered potato salad and mac n cheese. Wasn't a fan of the salad but the mac was delicious, I loved it. Line out the door. Visiting from out of town and saw the good reviews on Yelp and thought we would give it a try. Staff was all really friendly and clearly it was a family run business. They had already ran out of beef rulings and wings for the day so we tried the pork ribs and pulled pork. Both were very good. Pulled pork on its own a bit on the dry side for my taste, but the amazing sauce with hints of cinnamon and fruit more than made up for it. The famous Chuck Wagon was closed and my family is from all over: California, Canada, Indiana and Texas. We were really craving some ribs since we were in the South and came across this place during the holidays when all others were closed. So to the guy who gave 1 star, I'm surprised because they were actually the only ones open and don't have specific days they serve ribs either, some places only serve on Thurs/Fri. Try it out before you knock it! The food is amazing and the owner is a sweet guy, he opened this new location. Waited a few days for this place to be open. Finally went and to my dismay they didn't have any chicken and was told it would be at least 15 minutes. So I decided to change my order to three sausages and a 1/2 lb of pulled pork and a side of coleslaw. The sausages were pretty good with crisp skin that "popped" when bitten however the inside was not quit as done as I'd of liked. The pulled pork was hands down the best pulled pork that has ever crossed my lips!!! So juicy and flavorful. I didn't even use any sauce on it! I was pretty disappointed by Joe Mo's Ba-Ba-Que since several of the local people I work with while traveling to Huntsville highly recommended them. The Yelp reviews are really good as well, though I disagree this place is anything more than two stars. I visited Joe Mo's May 2019. I ordered the smoked pork ribs, potato salad, and cole slaw. The potato salad and cole slaw were good and I would eat them again. Yet the smoked pork ribs were far from the best I had and probably just average. With some practice, it is easy to consistently make really, really good smoked pork ribs. You smoke them slowly and for a long time. They come out falling off the bone tender, smokey, and delicious...no sauce needed. Unfortunately Joe Mo's smoked pork ribs were somewhat dry, not very tender, and without a full smoke taste. A true disappointment. Hey, maybe I got a bad set? Regardless, I will not be coming back. read more
