I don't understand Chuck. He repaired our community snow thrower a couple of times. About a year ago he did a repair and we had a problem within the warranty period. It was during a snow storm. I called and emailed him repeatedly with no response. So we had to pay another company to fix it again. I posted a negative review (which I hate to do). Chuck finally called me back and apologized. He said if I remove the review he would do our next fix for free. So now I need a repair. I've been trying to reach him for about 3 weeks and again no returned email or call back. Chuck spent 10 minutes on the phone with me today. I called him to see if he could come to my house and do an annual service on my old riding mower. He offered very helpful guidance on a much better way to invest my time and money to get the results I wanted. In the end, I decided not to pay to have him service my mower, but he didn't mind. He just wanted me to have the information and advice I needed. (Thanks to other reviews, I was prepared for the gruffness and hard-line responses to certain request. Thank you fellow Yelpers. Simply put, Chuck does an outstanding job on lawnmowers and similar small engine appliances. His rates are amazingly reasonable and he works exceptionally quickly. Chuck's business was the only one listed on internet for mobile service for sno-blowers. After my email request for service, Chuck called me within a day and set up an appointment at my home for two days later. He was prompt, thorough and very competent. As he went through the tune-up process, he patiently explained what he was doing (hmmmh, maybe I could feel pretty competent to do it myself another time!) He gave me tips on storage of small engine appliances that will certainly help me in the future. There was one broken small plastic part holding the cable on; Chuck suggested that I order the part myself and save another mobile service charge. I would definitely use Chuck again! read more

Chuck is the freaking man. He is honest and punctual and helpful. He came to our place to do a diagnosis on our Deere which hadn't run in like 8 or more years. Ended up, we needed a new carb. Since we are selling the mower, we didn't want to invest a lot in repairs and asked Chuck if he thought the job was something we could do on our own. He gave us some advice and we decided to give it a shot. We just installed the carb on our own and fired the mower up! Of course you will pay Chuck for his time and we did so gladly. But we appreciated that he knows we aren't all rich and might just need a little guidance so we can save a little money and do the job on our own. I went on Saturday to see about getting a lawn mower and a pressure washer fixed based on the review on yelp. When I arrived at the address it was a residence. I parked across the street and was checking the website on my phone when an older man walked out and snapped "can I help you?" I said I was looking for Chucks Small Engine Repair." He replied rudely " well you found it and it also says to make an appointment if you'd read that far." I guess he doesn't need business or failed customer service 101. Based on that interaction I said that's fine, I'll go somewhere else. I'd never use them regardless of his skill with engines. read more

Chuck is the greatest...it was right before the large snowstorm in NOVA, and my snowblower wasn't starting. It was pure luck that I got in touch with him and he had a window where he could fit me in because he was getting swamped with calls. He came out (he was not just on-time, but early), and walked me through the steps of what he was doing and why, and then instructed me on how if I followed his preventive maintenance steps would likely never have to call him again :-) He got it working and when the big storm hit, I was prepared. You can't go wrong with using chuck for any small engine repair. His prices were reasonable, he came to me, and instead of trying to keep you coming back, he teaches you the steps to be self sufficient. read more

Seems like a straight forward, decent guy. Has a clean garage. Definitely call and make sure he'll work on your equipment before coming out. I'm giving this two stars because I did call months ago but didn't make it out then due to sudden and frequent travel so I ended putting off my repair until now. This guy's website should say: seving Fairfax City and a few miles outside...if that. I contacted this business on a recommendation from my father-in-law. First, the phone only went to voicemail, so left a message. a few days go by and nothing. So i call again... same thing. So, I text,, finally a response. I get the, "I'm swamped and can't take any new customers for another 2 weeks...call me back the first week in May". I think, ok, fine, its spring, probably busy. Two weeks go by...(two weeks without a working mower now), and i recontact the business. Send him my address in Alexandria again, and now he says, oh, that's 18 miles away in Alexandria...that's too far for me".. That was need to know information three weeks ago, my man. When i asked if he knew of any business that 'would' service Alexandria, all communication stopped. I was very disappointed since other reviews of this business were so positive... but I wasted 3 weeks and now longer to get my problem fixed. read more

Like an earlier review from Max, I found Chuck to be quite a jerk. I called him one morning and he asked if I could bring my power washer over that morning--I told him I'd try, but if not today it would be tomorrow, depending on my schedule. He gave me his address and I said thanks and we hung up...he was a little short on the phone, but no big deal I thought. I looked up his address and saw it was only a few miles away, so I elected to bring it by then, like he mentioned. I called a few times on my way over with no luck, so when I got to his house I knocked on his garage door. He began to berate me about not calling before coming by. I said "uh, sorry, well do you want work on it or not?"..he barked at me to bring the washer to him. When I took it out of my car he started in again about how I should have backed my car up to his garage and how I can't listen to instruction....I was like what, really? This guy was barking at me like some junkyard dog.... I told him, "look, I can just leave if that would be better." He snapped back, "no, now that you have it out just bring it over here." My wife was in the car and looked at me like what the heck is up with this dude....I just put the washer back in the car and drove off with out saying another thing. Just like a reviewer posted earlier, I don't care if this is the best engine repair guy on the planet, I would not let this guy have any of my business. He's got issues. read more
