I enjoyed my blue moon burger and onion rings. The curly dog burger was insanely amazing with real Cabassa sausage. I would recommend that as well. I also enjoyed the ambience of the restaurant, and our cashier on a Saturday evening (young guy) was very nice and was so helpful when bringing items to our table. The only thing is sodas, run about $3-$4 each and that's a little bit expensive so I recommend bringing your own drink. The other thing I would like them to improve upon, is putting up the closed sign at 6:45 PM when their hours say that they are opened until seven. I think they should leave the open sign on until 7 PM. I don't know how the manager would feel about knowing that. read more

My family and I have been trying to make it in to support this local restaurant and every time we arrive they are closed even when it's within the hours listed both on the door and online. I called to see if it actually was open or if there were different hours and was talked to incredibly rude and was told hours were dependent on customer volume- I mentioned it is difficult to have volume if customers can't come in- and then was hung up on! Asked for a burger and asked if they would be able to do a burger without the bun and asked if I could have the lettuce leaves act as the bun (gluten intolerance), they said that they were able to do that. She then comes out with just the burger, cheese, tomato and pickles on shredded lettuce. I politely asked because she had said they were able to do the leaves of lettuce instead of the shredded, she said no. So I asked for the buns because I would rather have my stomach hurt than to deal with the confusion and miscommunication. She then threw her arms down like a toddler and walked away. I then followed because she also had forgotten the ranch and as I walked up to the front I hear her speaking to the cook, "she's crazy." My Sister was visiting from out of town and we always enjoyed going to Chuck Wagon. We both received a gift certificate to use at Chuck Wagon, for Christmas 2020 and decided to go there lunch. I handed the cashier my gift certificate and she tried to figure out, how to enter the certificate into the cash register. She asked another co-worker for assistance. The co-worker also tried to figure out how to enter the certificate into the cash register, but was unsuccessful. Both employees stated they'd have to get there manager. The one cashier came back to the register and said they had a new owner and was told she was unable to accept the gift certificate. The women (owner) came up, stood next to the cashier and took the gift certificate out of the cashier's hand. The owner looked at me and was extremely nasty and started yelling at me and said "I no take, I no get paid, I no care" The owner handed me back my gift certificate. I looked over at my Sister and told her we have food at home and I have no need to ever come back here. I looked at the cashier, smiled and told her to have a nice day. The staff were very nice and always have been. It was the owner, who needs to learn customer service skills. This was disappointing and I actually had high hopes because the train decor looked so fun especially for the kids. The prices were way too high in my opinion for what you actually get. The kids chicken nuggets (banquet) were way over cooked and so dried out they were curled up. I think there were 5-6 nuggets, small side of fries and small drink for $10. One chicken nugget was so dried up it was cracked in the middle. Season and crinkle fries were your typical fries not much to say there. I had the bacon cheeseburger and it was dry and tasted like it had been sitting out for hours, same as the bun. It needed some seasoning and Mayo on the top bun. It wasn't fresh cooked to order. My husband had the lance burger which said it was cooked in sauce and he too said it was dry and not cooked in anything, no seasoning no sauce. The service person at the counter who is also the food runner is very nice. I went to wash my hands in the restroom before eating and the women's toilet was clogged and not sure it was attended to the entire time we were there. $50 for 2 burgers, large fry, kids nugget meal, and a large drink. I stopped in to grab a bite. I read some great reviews of this place, so I just had to try it. I am glad that I did, I got the guacamole burger and small fires. Quick note, with this burger, grab extra napkins, it is just delicious sloppy mess, and the boot, they have crinkle fries cooked to perfection. Price wise, not bad for what I got... You see, as time goes on, I feel like we're left with two types of burgers -- the crappy fast food burger (McDonalds, Dick's, etc.) and the more upscale burger that strives for higher quality ingredients. But for some reason, none of those burgers ever taste as good to me as a burger like the ones at Chuck Wagon. I haven't visited the chuck wagon since I was a kid. As a child I remember it being a fun place with a small train that moves along the tracks on the ceiling with good food. As an adult with a child of my own, it was an overall super disappointing experience. The ordering process was irritating. I asked for a number 2 with a milkshake and was told "no you can't do a milkshake with that, only a soda" - not even an option for an up charge to add the shake, just told no. We ordered and waited. And waited. And waited. Finally the people who came in *after* us got their food. But it wasn't their food.. it was our food. The other customers looked around confused & handed us our meal realizing it wasn't theirs. The ranch is water. Absolute water. I am not convinced they don't actually add water to stretch it further. We didn't get our sodas we ordered and had to ask 3x for them. When we got them they weren't what we ordered. The table next to us we could hear them saying "I ordered Swiss cheese for all burgers but there's no cheese on any of them" The other table next to us asked for ketchup for their 3 kids and they were told they could only have one ketchup packet per kid. How weird is that??? The establishment itself is disappointing too. It COULD be cool and have a good vibe but it's just grimy and dirty. It feels like it hasn't been deep cleaned since I was a kid. We had to wipe the table off because there was dried crusted on food to the glass top. We tried finding a new table but they were all dirty. Overall, I would not recommend to come here. The food was mediocre, service terrible and just overall a real big letdown from when I was a kid. It feels like it was sold and purchased and has really gone downhill. 1/10 read more

We gave this place a try since it is a Mount Vernon icon and someone recommended it. I liked the western theme and the trains running around the tracks. It's clean inside and inviting. It's an order at the counter and have a seat type place that's been around since 1949. The menu is large and varied. Burgers are the main staple. The sad thing is the burger patties themselves are very low quality. They reminded me of gas station hamburgers that come in a foil wrapper. They are super thin and tasteless. They look like they were pressed out of some kind of ground beef by-product and pre-cooked. It could be so much better if they served actual grilled burgers instead of something that was most certainly warmed up in a microwave. Raise prices if needed but stop sending out these imitation burgers. Even the frozen boxed beef patties from Costco would be a huge improvement over what passes for meat there now. The fries and onion rings were good. They serve the old fashioned krinkle cut French fries which I like. It'll be awhile before I go back and I'll look for another menu item other than hamburgers. read more

A great stop to make on your way up north! Had family coming from Idaho and was excited to bring them to Chuck Wagon! The interior is very calming, especially with the electric trains in the ceiling, cascade glacier ice cream and the lates 90's to early 2000's alternative music! Wasn't expecting the combo, but it made for a great time. Each table has a custom made art piece and the walls are adorned with frontier deco, which was perfect for the family coming from the country side. If you're coming by, take note that: - the restaurant is more of a "Park and dine in!" *Not* a drive-thru as the name claims. - the faucet in the toilets is leaky (but it goes with the theme I guess...) - definitely try the potato burger or the French dipper. The bread on both is the best! - the huckleberry shake is a must try for a treat to go! Other than that, I will definitely be coming back to this hidden gem soon! read more

Went to The Chuck wagon on a Friday night and it wasn't very busy. I looked over the menu and decided on the potato burger. It's a double hamburger with a hash brown patty between the burgers. It was awesome and something I've never had before. The fries were hot and fresh and the service was friendly and prompt. i Have been wanting to come here since i was little!! it was good food, Super quick, definitely fast food. No drive-thru tho. And our cell service was oddly nonexistent in the Chuck Wagon parking lot, so my husband went inside to order. Seven minutes, and it was ready! We tried the tartar sauce with our fries. Delicious. The small fry is actually pretty big. i was surprised they charged so much extra for jalapeños and pepper jack on the "Spicy" Black bean Burger. My husband got the Jumbo Deluxe. Food was just GR8. We ordered a chocolate shake, too, but they accidentally put butterscotch in it instead. it's yummy, but my husband is not a fan of fancy flavors. He loves good old fashioned chocolate. It's kind of rare when I give such a rating. They have a decent selection of burgers to choose from. I wanted to try the Deluxe burger with grilled onions. Maybe that was a mistake. What I received was a burger with a store-bought bun and a meat patty that could not have been made any thinner without falling apart. No doubt it was machine made, frozen, and as the cheapest quality that could be found. The lettuce was shredded and could not taste the meat, it had no flavor. The grilled onion was warmed, not grilled, and not even close to caramelize. It didn't taste bad, it had no taste at all. The quality of the ingredients is poor at best. It is impossible to make good food with cheap ingredients. Really the only redeeming quality was the train overhead. They have it designed to run throughout the restaurant. The train makes whistle noises and is quite visible any place you sit for dinner. I wish they had put half as much energy into making their food better as they did working on the decor. read more

Been coming here 40+ years on our way home from an annual trip. So disappointed this year. Over $40 for two burgers, a large fry and 2 milkshakes. Pictures of burgers looked great, unfortunately actual burger was nothing like it. Shakes used to be thick, delicious, ice cream shakes. Now so thin it's like drinking instant milk with a tiny bit of flavor added in. Even McDonalds shakes are thinker and have a LOT mor flavor. When is the first time you heard about a burger with peanut butter on it? Well, I don't know about you, but the first time I ever heard of it was here--almost 30 years ago. I recently saw a Food Network show with a bar showcasing their "Goober Burger". I thought, "Awwww shoot, that's been around forEVER at Chuck Wagon! They also have a famous potato burger: two burger patties sandwiching a McDonald's hashbrown essentially. That was usually the burger of choice for my friends--no one was brave enough as kids to try the PBB. They also serve a few kinds of buffalo burgers. I've had buffalo and ostrich at the old Country Cafe off of Memorial Hwy, and I have to say it's not my favorite. Too...beef-like for me. I tried their curly fries yesterday, which tasted like a curly fry should taste, but their crinkle-cut fries were always my favorite thing here. I think it's because the oil picks up the other flavors of food that is cooked in it, which would normally gross me out, but it's like a special ingredient here haha The words 'drive-in' are in the name, but I have yet to see a car actually use the drive-thru. Everybody goes inside so they can sit with the carved wooden cowboys and 'Indians', watch the small train circle the ceiling rails, play the old-timey video games, and get a scoop of ice cream. This is also the first place I had ever tasted pumpkin ice cream! They were serving up more creative ice cream before it was hip to have unusual ice cream flavors :) Make that a milkshake please. Chuck Wagon, you were ahead of your time. But I would recommend changing up your billboard. Best burger in 2006? That was a long time ago. I have always thought that the Chuckwagon is the best locally owned burger joint in Mount Vernon, but after today they will have to redeem themselves. I have a pet peeve about my burger buns being smashed. This usually happens because the cooks store them incorrectly, or sometimes the foodservice vender delivers them smashed, at any rate by Deluxe Cheeseburger looked like it had been run over buy a truck. It's not that hard to serve a burger bun like you see in photos, you just have to make sure you handle them properly, and don't stack them one bag on top of another. Our fries were good, and the tarter sauce at The Chuckwagon is great. Quite a few years ago The Chuckwagon won an award for the best burger, but believe me, they wouldn't have won any award for the sloppy smashed mess they served me today. Still, very good flavor, and still my first choice in Mount Vernon for a family owned burger joint, they just need to polish up their product to reflect their awesome reputation. read more

We were welcomed with smiles. A convenient paper menu at the counter, easy to read. Inside the building is clean, the tables are beautiful. The train is a neat addition to the experience. Not to busy on Mondays at 5pm. The food arrived HOT, the fish and chips were not greasy even though typically deep fried. I would rate the fish a 3 out of 5 at best. Cod comes in several cut types and grades, these were smaller fish and end pieces so the level of flaky ness just wasn't enough for my taste. The malt vinegar is also watered down, lacked the luster and tang. We also ordered the onion burger, it was reported to be hot and tasty. Fries were good as well.
